My View of Life on the Dock

Gruyère is sweet but slightly salty, with a flavor that varies widely with age. It is often described as creamy and nutty when young, becoming with age more assertive, earthy, and complex. When fully aged (five months to a year) it tends to have small holes and cracks which impart a slightly grainy mouthfeel. Gruyère is generally known as one of the finest cheeses for baking, having a distinctive but not overpowering taste. In quiche, gruyère adds savoriness without overshadowing the other ingredients. It is a good melting cheese, particularly suited for fondues, along with Vacherin and emmental. White wines, such as riesling, pair well with gruyère. This pairs well with the Featured Wine Nero D’Avola

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great Holiday season and are ready
for another good year. The Board of Governors just had our first meeting
and got the ball rolling (. Please find attached the schedule of events
for 2010).
As a result of my being in a deep funk the last month or so, I’m sorry
to announce there probably won’t be a “Winter Races” event this year but
I promise to do the best I can to make up for it the rest of the year.
We got news last fall that Wayne Spindler has stepped down from the
Canadian Dory Committee and is being replaced by Kelly George. Wayne, we
thank you for your years of dedicated service. Personally, I thank you
for helping show me the ropes and giving me a good example. Kelly,
welcome aboard and please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is
anything I can do to smooth the ride.
I assure you we Americans will give you the same bullsh……uh….I
mean…respect we did Wayne! 🙂
As we embark upon a new rowing season, I’d like to let you all know
we’ve got a bunch of new Shaw and Tenney oars in, which cost a little
more than what we’re used to but your getting a way better oar!
We hope to have an “all hands” meeting soon, and we’ll be asking anyone
interested to volunteer a little time, there are openings on the Board
of Governors. This is your opportunity to help steer the IDRC and only
takes a few hours of your time a year! E-mail me if your interested.
Anyone planning on competing in the Open race this year, if you haven’t
been training hard for the last several months, you should probably
consider other options. I hear there’s a Tiddlywinks Tournament at the
Senior Center!
That’s all for now, see you down the dories!
To find out how you can be involved all year long with the dories for a mere $50 (including access to the dories for a full year check out the Gloucester International Dory Site Here

The Docksiders is a 25-piece stage (jazz) band from Gloucester High School . They are excellent; you can hear some of their music on a free website [www.gimmesound.com/GHSDocksiders/ ]. They play all kinds of music from swing, tv and movie themes, some contemporary, etc. They’ve been invited to play in Hawaii at the Hard Rock Café, the Polynesian Cultural Center , and aboard the floating museum at Pearl Harbor , the USS Missouri in April. It’s a chance for educational, and cultural enrichment, as well as an opportunity for band members to learn of the historical significance of Pearl Harbor . It’s also an opportunity for Gloucester to get some GOOD NEWS publicity.
Please do what you can to help make this a successful event — for the Docksiders! Attend — Pass the Word Along — Make a Donation. There is no suggested donation for this concert: give what you can afford to give! Although there have been other fundraisers for this trip, they still haven’t reached their goal and they have to pay a large deposit in early February.

Here’s what happened:
Christmas is just around the corner and the people of Hollytown, a small country village, are worried. A week ago, the children had all sent their letters to Santa and were eagerly awaiting their replies. Every other year the replies had come straight back, but this year NO ONE had received a letter from the North Pole. What was going on? Would there even be a Christmas in Hollytown this year?
Then came the bad news. The North Pole had called the new post office in
Hollytown and asked why there had been no sack of letters from the
children of the town. Where had the mail gone? What was going on?
An investigation began and the missing bag of mail was found deep in the
woods under some bushes. A red scrap of material was fluttering in the
breeze on an overhead branch. Who was the culprit that wanted to spoil Christmas?
Children gathered in the local town hall to rewrite their letters and send them express to the North Pole before it was too late, but people were still upset. No one will be able to enjoy Christmas until the mystery of who took the mail and why is solved. The joy of Hollytown’s Christmas is in the hands of a special group that has been called in to work on the case. Can you help the people of Hollytown figure out what happened?
