Joseph Everett Chandler and The Restoration of The Sargent House Event Saturday Nov 6th

Judith Nast Writes In-

Hi Joey,
The Sargent House Museum would like to invite people to a lecture followed by refreshments and a tour of the museum tour this coming Saturday at  2pm at the Sawyer Library.  We’re delighted to have the wonderful author, Tim Orwig, talk about Joseph Chandler’s work in preserving the musuem in the early part of the 20th century.  Joseph Everett Chandler, preservationist and antiquarian, was a champion of Colonial Restoration, most often referred to as the Colonial Revival style. He believed architectural forms demonstrated values of their builders, and that a culture could not survive without preserving reminders of its origins and character.  After the lecture, we’ will walki over to the museum for refreshments and a tour.  You may have noticed that the Sargent House Museum is in the midst of an exterior restoration project.  Come see what it’s all about!  Get tickets online at
sargenthouse.org.
Thanks for your support and helping us get the word out!

Andy is from Wenham and has been diving in New England waters for more than 40 years. He has compiled one of the most extensive collections of high quality images of marine life behavior from New England to Eastern Canada. His book, Marine Life of the North Atlantic, is considered the best guide to this region and is now in its 4th edition with more than 200 new photographs. The presentation will be held Monday, November 15, 7-8:30 pm at NOAA Fisheries Service’s Northeast Regional Office at 55 Great Republic Drive, Gloucester.

Dory Rowing Is A 12 Month Activity

image

The International Dory Race Committee would like everyone to know that there are still two freshly painted practice dories in the water and available for use all through the winter.

For more information and to sign up or sign up a friend or loved one as a holiday gift you can check out the International Dory Website here (a full year membership is only $60)

Membership is $60 for 1 year, and runs January to January. Membership includes use of committee dories, loaner equipment, and race and committee event invitations. To become a member, download the membership form here.

Erik Dombrowski writes-

Many thanks to the people who volunteered some time to haul the race dories last weekend.  An excellent turn-out by our members allowed us to finish by 9 AM and make light work of putting the dories to rest for the winter.

Please keep in mind, though that we currently have 2 practice boats with freshly painted bottoms that will be in the water to be rowed all winter.  We don’t want to discourage winter rowing by true iron men & women like Damon & Hilary!!!

See you all soon.

John Raimondi’s work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; and the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, Maine, among many others. Rockport Middle School Performs Annie This Weekend

image

Rockport Middle School Performs Annie.  This weekend.

The cast of this year’s middle school musical, "Annie," has been hard

at work rehearsing every day after school since the first week of

school. Due to the large number of performers, there will be two

casts: one cast will handle the Thursday night and Saturday matinee

performances and the other will perform on Friday and Saturday nights.

Additionally, our crew members have begun work on our complex,

multi-level set.  Putting together this show has been a team effort

involving over 75 middle school students and several high school

student assistant directors, in addition to the support of teachers,

staff, and parents.

Annie is sure to be a production you won’t soon forget, so don’t miss

out! Performances will be October 28 and 29 at 7:00 pm and on October

30 at 2:00 and 7:00 pm. There will be no performances on Sunday the

31st (Halloween). General Admission tickets are $10. Tickets for

students and seniors are $7. For more information, call the middle

school office at 978-546-1250.
