Here ‘s the scene at the Heritage Center just after the Schooner race.
Gotta move the ol’ sled around somehow if there’s no wind.
Here are the controls for the engine to get the Bluenose around in the event there is no wind.

Watch as a mate aboard the Bluenose II convinces me that working aboard these schooners actually involves labor and not cruising into port and getting drunk.
Kathy Dwyer from The Lettie G Schooner talks about Gloucester.
The Schooner Virginia, winner of this weekend’s race is on it’s way to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
On it’s official website they have a tracking device which shows its previous stops and it’s current position.

Once you click it because the ship is off the coast it will appear to be in a sea of blue, because it is, but if you scroll out a little you can see it’s position on the map in relation to the US and Canada.
Pretty cool stuff.
Skipper Phil Watson was gracious enough to let me aboard even though the ship was closed to passengers for an interview. His interview along with an interview with Chief Engineer Ken Sutton, pics and videos are all coming at you later in the week.
You gotta love the access a GoodMorningGloucester Sticker will grant ya! LOL!

I laugh as Damon forgets to untie the bowline and makes zero headway rowing.
After realizing he forgot to untie the bow line, Damon had us under way and around the Schooners for some up close pictures.

Very excited to see that the gates at The Heritage Center were not closed and I could get right down to the end of the pier where the Bluenose II was tied up for these shots. Creak creak creak go the boards in the early morning as you step across with no one else around.

No crowds, no lines, unfettered access. That is my world at 4:50 AM when most people are deep in REM sleep. I need some coffee.

Open gates early in the morning= Joey getting down to the docks to take some shots, SWEET!
Sure you’re gonna see a gazillion pictures taken during the daylight hours of the schooners over the next couple days, but who else is cranking down the deserted docks to get you these kinds of shots in the middle of the night?
If you click the picture and then select “all sizes” you can see this picture full size and with beautiful clarity. The deep rich color of the wood on deck is amazing.
