Susan Nilsson of Rockport is described as white, 5’5″ tall, 130 pounds, and with green eyes. She was walking on Rocky Neck Friday night. Police found personal items belonging to her on a dock and in the water. Anyone with information about her disappearance is encouraged to call Gloucester Police at (978) 283-1212.
I’m surprised that when the Rudder was renovated they didn’t keep that puke green color and instead went with a deep Gloucester cranberry
Notice the windows in this photo EJ took way back then on the postcard? No awning nowadays though. I suppose delivery trucks would rip those awnings down on a daily basis if they were still on the front of the building.

The Mobile Museum of American Artifacts curator Laurelin Kruse is looking for donations from Gloucester residents. She is most interested in objects of a personal nature that tell a story about the owner. Stop in tonight at the Lanesville Community where the museum will be open and Laurelin will be accepting donations.
Laeurelin writes, I’ll be at the Lanesville Community Center tonight during the Mayoral Debates and Thursday at the Cape Ann Farmer’s Market. Otherwise I can usually be found at the Rocky neck parking lot [on the causeway to Rocky Neck] or check my Instagram (name: theMMoAA ) for my whereabouts.

Edwin from Ontario Canada, was strolling the Harbor Walk, while his wife was shopping downtown. Edwin indicated he was an avid sailor of 50 years, and loved being near the water. Edwin and his wife were staying in Rocky Neck
Sailor Stan’s is now open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:00 am until 12:00 or so. Stop in for some of Wayne’s happy blueberry pancakes, awesome omelettes, specials of the day, and new offerings of homemade muffins. Rocky Neck – 1 Wonson Street – the cool funky place filled with local characters, good food and fun.
Mom and I have had breakfast there twice since landing back in the land of miracles, and it is great! So glad to be back on Rocky Neck!

Hobbit House Studio
I saw this little creature running up Freemont Street on Rocky Neck, all alone and scared. I (with the help of Wanye from Sailor Stan’s) chased him down and caught him. I knew he would be a cat or other critter’s meal in no time if left to his own devices. After a bit of research, I found that he is an eider duckling, probably about a week old. He has an incredible appetite, once I discovered that he loves Mary’s Gone Crackers organic, gluten free crackers crushed up and made into a watery porridge. He also likes shredded lettuce, and loves being in his water bowl and food dish. I don’t know what to do with him/her, as he is too tiny to put back in the cold water by himself and I don’t know what eider he belong to. Their mother’s apparently preen them putting oil onto their down so they can withstand the cold water, so he gets cold and needs to snuggle in my hands or under my armpit after being in the water to warm up. A precious visitor to Hobbit House who loves being held and is very chatty. I make the mother eider’s ruck, ruck, ruck, ruck call to him, and he gets so excited. So great to be back on Rocky Neck, where anything can happen, and the most amazing things do.

The Rudder’s porch is open and is wonderfully cozy and fully heated. It’s lovely to be dining al fresco on the harbor again, despite the unseasonably chilly temperatures.

Phase III CSO Control Plan – Project 5: Water and Sewer Rehabilitation
Re: Notice of Pending Sewer Rehabilitation, Smith Cove Sewer Easement
Dear Residents and Businesses:
As you are aware, the City of Gloucester is currently completing a water and sewer rehabilitation project in the East Main Street and Rocky Neck neighborhoods to improve the service and reliability of the municipal wastewater collection and water distribution systems. The sewer rehabilitation component of the project involves cleaning the existing sewer pipes and installing a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner from existing manholes in the street to avoid excavation and minimize disturbance.
The next phase of work will include sewer rehabilitation of the sewer pipe crossing under Smith Cove from Rocky Neck Avenue within the City sewer easement limits of work area shown on the attached plan. The schedule for the rehabilitation work within the sewer easement crossing Smith Cove has not yet been finalized, but is anticipated to occur in April of 2015. The proposed Smith Cove sewer rehabilitation will also involve installation of CIPP liner from existing manholes so excavation and disturbance within the easement will be minimized.
Planned Work
Temporary Force Main (#229/R to #285 East Main Street and #5, #9 Rocky Neck Ave.)
In preparation for future sewer rehabilitation, the City’s Contractor (N. Granese & Sons) will install a temporary sewer pipe (force main) along the edge of the road from the Rocky Neck parking lot to the Beacon Marine pump station as shown on attached map. The temporary pipe will remain in place for approximately one month. When the pipe crosses driveway entrances, the contractor will create ramps of asphalt to allow vehicles to cross, or will excavate in road and bury the pipe if required to allow access to driveways. Following completion of the project, the contractor will clean up the area and repave the road where cuts were made.
Parking will be restricted along the route of this force main for the duration of the project.
Temporary Pump Station (in vicinity of #1 Eastern Point Rd. and #5 to #16 Rocky Neck Ave.)
The Contractor will then install temporary pumps in Rocky Neck Avenue to bypass the sewer flow through the temporary force main and allow work on the sewer pipe in Smiths Cove to proceed.
The pump station will be tested for a period of 48-hours and later will be run for approximately seven days. The station will run 24-hours a day and will be powered by diesel generators. They will be sound attenuated to reduce the impacts on the neighborhood but there will be some noise 24-7, with the pumps operating and workers attending and refueling the generators and pumps periodically.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane (alternating traffic) in the vicinity of the temporary pump station during the installation, testing, and operation of the temporary pump station.

Rocky Neck Parking Lot
During the work, the contractor will be staging equipment and materials in the parking lot on Rocky Neck Avenue. Parking will be restricted in the vicinity of the temporary pump station during this project (approximately one month), and when the rehabilitation work is underway (approximately 7 days) parking will be restricted on the majority of the parking lot.

Gloucester MA, February 26, 2015 —The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) with more than 200 members, is pleased to introduce artist members who make photographs, sculpture and fine craft in “CAPTURED,” the first of two consecutive shows devoted exclusively to art colony members. This exhibition will be on view Thursday, March 5 through 29 at the Cultural Center Gallery, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester. Viewers will have the opportunity to see the new work inspired by streetscapes, quarries, beaches and more, being “captured” by members in 2015. The public is invited enjoy the exhibition accompanied by light refreshments and meet the artists at the reception on Friday, March 6, 5:00-7:00 PM. The Gallery is open each week, Thursday-Sunday, 12:00 -4:00 PM.
Several of the exhibiting RNAC members Judith Monteferrante, Skip Montello, and Dianne Schaefer will be exhibiting their work at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester MA in the exhibition “Photography Atelier 21” also on view from March 5-29.
A second RNAC member exhibition “ It’s Not Furniture” is a juried annual of paintings, prints, and mixed-media 2D work coming to the Cultural Center April 2-26. Be sure to watch for more details.
