Things To Do- The Lone Gull 10K

The second annual Lone Gull 10K is September 21,2008.  I’m not a runner but from what I understand because the have such a huge sponsor in Nike, you pay $18 if you register before September 15th or $24 if you register September 15th and later for your entry fee, it entitles you to a $40 Lone Gull 10K technical jersey if you are within the first 350 people to register, and breakfast.  That’s a pretty good take my friends!

There is a sign up sheet for race day volunteers at The Lone Gull Coffeehouse in the heart of Downtown Gloucester if you would like to participate in that way.

The course starts and ends at Good Harbor Beach.

Here’s more info from the source-

Come join us for a great run in the historic fishing town of Gloucester, MA.  Race along the backshore of Gloucester and enjoy great views of the Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Point.  This scenic seaside course has slight rolling hills and is USATF Certified.  Donations and registration fees will go towards the Lone Gull 10K Charitable Trust.

Free Nike long-sleeve technical tees to first 350 registered runners!

Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 male & female runners and the top 3 men’s & women’s teams.  Merchandise awards will be awarded to age group winners.

Directions: Route 128 North to first rotary.  Take second exit off the rotary.  Follow 128 Extension to lights.  Take left onto Eastern Ave./127.  Follow 1/2 mile to Shaw’s Plaza and make immediate right onto Barn Lane.  At bottom of hill take a left onto Thatcher Road and follow for 1/2 mile.  Good Harbor entrance is on the right.

Fishermen Tattoos-Joe Dimao

It means dragon. I dig the colors but could never bring myself to get a tattoo in that location.

What are the odds that Joe regrets getting it done on his neck in 30 years or so?

Peter Mondello Readies New Gear

Here is Peter Mondello offloading some newly built lobster traps.

Peter is the exception and not the rule as he builds all his traps himself.  Most guys buy their lobster traps from a trap builder like Winchester Fishing Gear, Friendship Trap Company or Eaton Traps.

Peter and his brother Joe use a shop under their father’s cobblers shop across from Saint Ann’s Church to build new traps and repair broken ones.

Susie Byrd Fisherman Fused Glass Art

Susie is a fisherman.  She loves fishing.  Recently she signed on to fish with Johnny “Doc” Herrick aboard The Dog and I.  Johnny said that he’s never had a back man push him to fish harder than Susie has pushed him.  She just loves being out there.

She also loves working with fused glass.

Here are some of her pieces (as always you can click on any picture and select “all sizes” to see the picture full sized and in greater detail)
