Who Remembers Virginia Il?

I came across these old Polaroid snapshots that my mother took of her friend Kay during a trip to Gloucester in August 1983 aboard the Virginial.  I was surprised to see a big ferry boat like that tied up behind the Studio.  Who remembers this, and when did it stop coming and why?  Wouldn’t it be great if they resumed ferry service from Boston to Gloucester.  It would help alleviate vehicular traffic and we have the transportation infrastructure in place with Lady Jillian, the Trolley and CATA to allow visitors to move around and take advantage of much that Gloucester has to offer.

The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce Website- GMG Gloucester Tourism 2011 Kick Off Week

The Chamber of Commerce Has A Feature Rich Website with The Weekly Catch, A Member Directory and Information For Other Cape Ann Towns Like Rockport, Essex and Manchester.

One excellent feature is the Weekly Catch and it’s listing of cultural events happening around town.  It can be found with a link at the header of the Chamber’s Home Page.  I also feature it here on my weekly picks of the week post every Thursday morning.

Did you know that you can get your Gloucester tourism related business listed in the www.GloucesterMA.com website for free?

Well you do know sucka!  Thank your boy Joey.  We went to the meeting for you and listened to the Mayor and the E-Board talk about what is happening to make this tourist season one of the best yet and I know with people’s busy schedules that it’s tough for business owners to get to all the meetings, but that’s where we come in.  We went and taped the speeches from Mayor Kirk, Jan Bordinaro and Sheree Delorenzo (before we ran out of memory space on the camera.

We learned of a bunch of things on the GloucesterMA.com website that can help you and tourists know what you need to know.

Jann and Ed Greenburg Have A Gloucester Tourism Question

Ed Writes-

Hi Joey:

We live across the harbor from Captain Joe’s on Freshwater Cove and could not believe our eyes today at about 12:00 noon when a people packed BHC ( Boston Harbor Cruise) ferry came into the harbor and turned around in front of the Copper Paint factory and proceeded to leave the port abruptly.

Query: Why can’t we arrange for said ferry (ies) to tie up and either stay for a couple of hours or at the very least drop people off in Gloucester and/or take people to Boston ? Isn’t Cruiseport designed to do that? Why can’t we at least be part of the Salem – Boston run. It is hard to see that many people with just as many wallets make such a quick meaningless trip.

Anyone wanna take a stab at this one?
