The highlight of the day is the Chowder Competition among area restaurants- the prize? Bragging rights for the year!
Entrantsā chowder is judged by a panel of locals and professional Judges, as well as a Popular vote by the people sampling the chowders.
Supplementing the Chowder event, isĀ a variety of vendors – food, local arts and crafts people , all day entertainment, childrenās activities , non-profits fundraising and information and Police and Fire Department Safety activities.Ā The local Board of Health also runs a flu shop clinic on the grounds.
At sundown this Halloween season, Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary will be transformed into a magical forest. Join us for a guided walk along our Halloween trail, home to some interesting creatures that come out just for Halloween.Ā GlowingĀ luminaries and carved jack o’lanterns will light our way. Learn firsthand about the creatures of the night on this fun family-friendly walk.
Both Connors Farm in Danvers and Marini Farm in Ipswich are home to some pretty cool corn mazes that are fun for groups of friends or families during the fall months. Ā Both locations, likewise, have many other fun activities too!

The Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the twenty-ninth annual Essex ClamFest on Saturday, October 22nd (rain date: Sunday, October 23rd), from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Shepard Memorial Park in Essex.
The highlight of the day will be the Clam Chowder Tasting, a competition that pits area restaurants against one another to determine who serves the best chowder on Cape Ann. Many of the area restaurants are expected to serve up their favorite chowder recipes starting at 12:00 noon and ending at 2:00 p.m. The public (for a nominal fee of $5 per person) will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.
In addition to the Chowder competition, an interesting variety of activities has been planned, including an arts and crafts area; entertainment throughout the afternoon; the Lions Club food pavilion; an Ipswich Ale station; organization, church, and non-profit tables; a number of games for children and a health fair which will include flu shots. The crafts area and the rides will be open to the public starting at 11:00 a.m.

The public will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.

ESSEX CLAMFEST 2009
The Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the twenty-seventh annual Essex ClamFest on Sunday, October 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Park in Essex. The highlight of the day will be the Clam Chowder Tasting, a competition that pits area restaurants against one another to determine who serves the best chowder on Cape Ann. Ten local restaurants are expected to serve up their favorite chowder recipes starting at 12:00 noon and ending about 2:00 p.m.
The chowder will be judged by North Shore 104.9’s on air personality, Jackie Ankelas, food critic Ellen Boisvert, Sen. Bruce Tarr, Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Essex Town Chairman, Jeff Jones and chef Bob Phipps. The public will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.
