Andy Ate The Whole Thing-
I see a few misplaced home fries there. My guess is that Andy couldn’t wait to get the picture snapped before he dove into that pile of home fries.
My View of Life on the Dock
Santa Lucia Day, a traditional Sicilian holiday that many celebrate, is December 13th. To Felicia (Ciaramitaro) Mohan and many other Sicilians it is remembered as a day when her grandmother invited all of the kids to her house to eat the large pan of pudding simultaneously in an “eating race.”
Catholic traditions tell the legend of how there was a great hunger in Syracuse, Sicily, and the town’s people had gathered in the cathedral on her feast day, December 13th, to pray, and two ships loaded with wheat arrived, with her at the helm of one, dressed in white, with a halo of candles on her head. This is the explanation given for the cucci, or cooked wheat which is an ingredient in all her festival ‘s foods. Cuccia, a kind of sweet porridge is made with wheat berries, chocolate, sugar and milk. Each family has their own versions of this dish.
For Felicia’s grandmother’s version, additional ingredients of cornstarch, vanilla, salt and fresh ground cinnamon are added. Felicia strongly recommends that it is worthwhile to go to a specialty spice store and find the Italian cinnamon sticks and grind them yourself.
Hi Joey..
Two families have lost there home due to a major fire on Sunday, in Rockport. Three years ago my family also lost there home to a devasting fire.
People were so kind and thoughtful so it is my turn to give back and to show there is renewal after such a loss.
So on December 18th from 10-4 at my home at 11 Stockholm avenue in Rockport..I am going to bake 100’s and 100’s of holiday cookies.
They will be for sale by donations only so hopefully we can give a big chunck of change to these families the week before XMAs.
This will be my third BAKING FOR GOOD bakesale. the first one I had raised $1300.00 for Haitan relief after the earthquake..the second one raised $2400.00 for a friend who was dying of Cancer..with a little butter and sugar we can change the world or at least our tiny corner.
thank you

Things got a little punchy after 10 hours of baking.
Keep in mind they still had 3 hours of baking to go at this point.
Paul sensing he was in for a long day of work helping erect the Lobster Trap Tree went all in on this omelet at Passports.
I maintain that Passports has the best homefries in Gloucester.

Why Lobster of course.
The folks that read the blog know that we spent Thanksgiving in NYC.
After the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade and watching the Pats we went out to a great restaurant in Chelsea – COOKSHOP.
Now I don’t know about you but if you are going to give me an option to eat lobster over turkey I’ll take lobster 100 times out of 100. COOKSHOP offered a multi-course prix fixe menu.
Here is my first course, the roasted lobster salad. Avocado, cilantro, red onion, lobster and roasted chili sauce. It was RE-DIC-U-LOUS!
The main course was Beef Short Ribs. Man o man. It was great. Loved eating out and being able to enjoy each other’s company instead of the mass hysteria that can be associated with huge Holiday meals. I vote that we eat out every thanksgiving!

You may only cook a turkey one day a year but Julie Geary shows that it is actually easy to make a perfectly cooked bird, brown on the outside and fully cooked and moist on the inside. Her secret is the technique of using butter, lots of it, and coat the entire surface of the outside of the turkey. Cover completely with aluminum foil and cook the turkey, covered with the aluminum foil, up until the last half hour. Remove the foil and the turkey will be white, but after about ½ hour more in the oven (without the foil) the skin will brown perfectly. For some added flavor, Julie also shows you how to place some fresh herbs (such as sage, thyme or parsley) under the skin before cooking. She also has a video to show how to make perfect gravy and another for an easy, basic stuffing recipe.
