Cute couple on their way to the prom

On Tuesdays in the summer, my favorite volunteer job is being at the visitor center at Stage Fort Park.  A nice young couple on their way to their senior prom, stopped by to have some photos taken.  Asked them if it was ok to take their photo.  love the wonderful rocking chairs on the porch.

Mapping Memory: Gloucester’s Oral History Project

Our Neighborhoods. Our Stories.

Join the Local History Research Center at the Sawyer Free Library to celebrate the launch of Mapping Memory: Gloucester’s Oral History Project, a new community initiative to collect, preserve, and share the personal stories that define Gloucester’s neighborhoods.

Mayor Lundberg will provide opening remarks. After, join neighbors for a game of Gloucester Neighborhood Jeopardy!

Light refreshments will be served.

About:

This project will gather first-hand accounts from longtime residents, community leaders, and underrepresented voices through recorded oral history interviews. Mapping Memory will build a digital archive of interviews, transcripts, and mementos documenting life in Annisquam, Bay View, Downtown, East Gloucester, Folly Cove, Lanesville, Magnolia, Riverdale, Riverview, and West Gloucester from the 20th century to today.

At this kickoff event, learn how the project works, explore ways to volunteer and participate, and help shape the stories we preserve. Whether you have lived in Gloucester for decades, recently arrived, or simply want to learn more about the community, your memories are an important part of Gloucester’s history.

Come share ideas, connect with neighbors, and help map Gloucester’s memories—one story at a time.

The North Shore Health Project is pleased to announce that our Annual Ann Margaret Ferrante Legacy Health Activist Award Breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday morning, June 9th at The Castle Manor Inn

The North Shore Health Project is pleased to announce that our Annual Ann Margaret Ferrante Legacy Health Activist Award Breakfast is scheduled for Tuesday morning, June 9th at The Castle Manor Inn, Gloucester. Tickets are $50 and available through the Eventbrite link at the bottom of this invitation.

This year, our honoree is Sal Zerilli. Sal is the founder of Awesome Gloucester and Awesome Rockport, The Murals Project and more. Awesome Gloucester and Awesome Rockport combined have gifted over $280K in $1,000 microgrants in both communities to make them even more awesome! The Mural Project has funded original art all over Gloucester and Rockport, and Sal’s spearheading of the “Down The Fort: A Documentary and Archive Project” will ensure that important voices are never lost. The most recent project, Branded Aliens, is a partnership with Laura Ventimiglia and tells the stories of Italian-Americans in Gloucester who were ostracized during WW2. Sal exemplifies what we mean when we talk about the overall health of the community. He is a well-deserving recipient this year, and we look forward to celebrating him. You will have the opportunity to hear from people who work with Sal as well as other friends and family. Please bring a new package of socks to add to our Client Closet.

Use the link below to purchase tickets. To reserve a table, please email Susan at scoviello@healthproject.org

The Health Project supports those living with or affected by HIV, HepC and substance use disorder. With two physical locations located in Gloucester and Haverhill, as well as a mobile van which services Essex, Beverly, Ipswich, Wenham and Rockport, the Health Project supports community members all over Essex County. The Health Project’s services are funded through a contract from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

We look forward to welcoming you in June!

A Great Night Sleep Is Priceless!

 by Angel Wings Wellness

Need Better Sleep? CBD and CBN may help with their remarkable sleep promoting properties!

When it comes to sleep, not all cannabinoids are created equal. However, here are three cannabinoids that may influence your sleep patterns:

CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound popular for its potential therapeutic benefits. One of its well-studied properties is its anti-inflammatory effect. It also possesses remarkable sleep-promoting properties due to its ability to calm the mind and body.

CBD also doesn’t make you high. Instead, it helps you relax and unwind, which could prove beneficial if you struggle with falling and staying asleep. Research suggests that CBD may help reduce anxiety, which can be a major barrier to falling asleep.

CBN
CBN (cannabinol), on the other hand, is a mildly psychoactive compound that forms when THC breaks down. It is known as the “sleepy cannabinoid in old weed” because users claim it induces sedation, which helps them to sleep.

Like CBD, CBN is often touted for its potential sedative effects. Some users report that CBN helps them fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. However, research on CBN’s sleep-promoting effects is limited, and more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.

Please visit us Fridays or Saturdays 11-4 at 12 Rogers Street Gloucester or call for a Free Consultation or private appointment.
