Hi Joey, I went down to the dock yesterday to personally invite you to my upcoming Matz Gallery show, Etched by Light: Photogravures and Photographs “. And I was told you are on vacation. Enjoy!  But I was intrigued by your “picture window “ – great view!

I remember that you actually delivered a jacket to me several years ago at our house on Harbor Road, Gloucester. And  I shared several of my art pieces with you.

The show is open, at the Matz Gallery, Sawyer Library, Gloucester,  and the reception I am inviting you,  and your friends, and family, which is open to the public, is this Thursday, June 11th, 5:00 – 6:30 pm. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Sawyer Library. It would be appreciated if you could share the Matz Gallery show with your readers.

I know you have taken some great photos, and I would be honored to explain the photogravure process to you.

ps. And coincidentally, I have 3/3 art pieces in the juried “Art on the Rocks”, seArts show, with other artists, and their reception is also on this Thursday, June 11th, at 5:30 pm ! It is at the Bass Tocks Golf Club, Gloucester. And a portion of the proceeds of the seArts show are donated to the RV Lily Jean Fund.
I am so fortunate and blessed to have two receptions at two different venues at the same time, and I can help support two special Gloucester funds.

Cape Ann Community Foundation Announces Recipients of 2026 Grants

Non-Profit and Community Recipients to be Celebrated at CACF’s June 17 Event

The Cape Ann Community Foundation (CACF) announced the recipients of its 2026 grants, selecting seven organizations serving a variety of groups across Greater Cape Ann.

The Cape Ann Community Foundation – a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization established in 2015 by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce – manages and awards grants from the proceeds from sales of the Cape Ann License Plate. CACF makes grants for projects that support the Foundation’s mission to improve the economy and overall quality of life for the residents of Greater Cape Ann.

The 2026 grant recipients address a variety of community needs including food insecurity, cultural awareness, support for seniors, at-need students and at-risk youths.

The 2026 grant recipients are:
100Trees – the CACF grant will be used to maintain new street trees planted by this grassroots organization along Washington Street in Gloucester
Acord Food Pantry – the CACF grant will be used to continue a “mobile mart” in Essex at the Council on Aging, providing food to seniors and individuals living in affordable housing who have transportation barriers
Chabad Cape Ann – the CACF grant will be used to cover programming costs for the Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival, a free community event that brings together people from across Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea for an afternoon of music, art, food, and shared cultural experiences
The Cornerstone Creative – the CACF grant will help The Cornerstone Creative expand its mentorship and woodworking programs, providing local youth with hands-on skill building, supportive mentorship, and opportunities for personal and professional growth in a safe and creative environment
First R Foundation – the CACF grant would help First R purchase books for kindergarten and first-grade students in Gloucester and Rockport during the 2026/2027 academic year
Kinship Farm – the CACF grant will be used to sustain and expand the organization’s Grow Food for Good program, which plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainable agriculture for underserved members in Ipswich and other Greater Cape Ann communities Friends of Manchester-by-the-Sea Council on Aging – the CACF grant will be used to support the organization’s all- voluntary Coffee and Conversation Program, providing beverages, snacks, supplies, guest speakers and other programs for seniors in Manchester

These grant recipients will be celebrated at the Foundation’s third annual Candlepins for a Cause event at Cape Ann Lanes on June 17. They will be joined by past CACF grant recipients and friends of the Foundation to spotlight CACF support for community organizations and programs and promote adoption of the Cape Ann License Plates. The sale of Cape Ann license plates makes the Foundation grants possible.

Anyone interested in fielding a team can do so with a $240 donation. There are also Silver and Bronze sponsorship levels  available as seen on our website LoveCapeAnn.com.   Individual bowlers can participate with a $40 donation to the Foundation.  Those who would like to attend the event and cheer on the bowlers – and support the Foundation – are asked to make a $25 donation.

Bowlers and other attendees can register by clicking on the event link on the Foundation’s www.lovecapeann.com website.

“The funds we raise with Candlepins for a Cause – together with the revenue from Cape Ann license plate sales – will help us continue to support our region’s non-profit and civic organizations,” said CACF Co-Chair Britta Cahoon.

“Candlepins for a Cause is a great way to show our support for the non-profit organizations that serve Greater Cape Ann, and the Cape Ann license plates are a great way to show our love for our community,” said  Tony Sapienza, CACF Co-Chair.

One Week Away: Free Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival Set to Fill Stage Fort Park with Music, Culture, and Family Fun

Community celebration on June 14 invites the North Shore to experience Jewish pride, joy, food, music, art, and connection

In just one week, Stage Fort Park will come alive with Jewish music, culture, food, art, and family fun as the Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival returns to Gloucester on Sunday, June 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The festival is free, family-friendly, and open to the entire community, welcoming people of all backgrounds from Cape Ann, and across the North Shore.

Hosted by Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Ann, the festival offers a joyful and welcoming way to experience Jewish culture in the heart of Cape Ann. Guests will enjoy live klezmer music, free children’s activities, artists and vendors, and kosher food available for purchase.

More than just a festival, organizers say the event is meant to be a public celebration of connection, belonging, and Jewish joy.

“At a time when Jewish identity is so often spoken about in the context of challenges, this festival offers something different,” said Rabbi Avremi Raichik, director of Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Ann. “It is a chance to celebrate Jewish life openly, proudly, and joyfully through music, food, art, family, and community.”

The Cape Ann Jewish Cultural Festival was created to bring people together and share the richness of Jewish culture with the broader community. The event is designed for all ages, whether attendees come for the music, the food, the kids’ activities, the vendors, or simply to enjoy an uplifting afternoon by the Gloucester waterfront.

“This is not only for the Jewish community,” Rabbi Raichik said. “It is for neighbors, families, friends, and anyone who wants to be part of a warm, meaningful, and joyful community celebration.”

Organizers are encouraging attendees to reserve free tickets in advance so they can prepare for the crowd.

Gloucester Stage Company Earns Multiple Elliot Norton AwardsFollowing Record-Breaking 14 Nominations

Gloucester, MA – Gloucester Stage Company received five Elliot Norton Awards at the 43rd Annual Elliot Norton Awards ceremony held Monday evening at the Huntington Theatre in Boston, following a record-setting fourteen nominations across multiple productions during the company’s 2025 season.

The recognition further solidifies Gloucester Stage’s growing reputation as one of Greater Boston’s leading midsize theater companies, with nominations spanning acting, directing, design, and production categories.

Gloucester Stage award recipients included:

Amanda Fallon (The Glass Menagerie) – Outstanding Lighting Design, Midsize or Small
Liza Giangrande (The Glass Menagerie) – Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play, Midsize
Valyn Lyric Turner (No Child…) – Outstanding Solo Performance

The Glass Menagerie – Outstanding Play, Midsize

Gloucester Stage received nominations across three productions — The Glass Menagerie, The Garbologists, and No Child… — reflecting the company’s commitment to producing work that is artistically ambitious, emotionally resonant, and deeply connected to contemporary audiences.

“To have work recognized across so many disciplines — acting, directing, design, and production — is tremendously meaningful,” said Rebecca Bradshaw, Producing Artistic Director of Gloucester Stage Company. “As a small theater on Cape Ann, there is something incredibly gratifying about seeing the work being created here recognized alongside some of the region’s most respected companies. These nominations and awards reflect the extraordinary artists who bring their talent to Gloucester and the collaborative culture that continues to thrive here.”

Particular recognition for The Glass Menagerie across scenic, lighting, costume, and sound design categories further highlights Gloucester Stage’s growing reputation for producing visually and emotionally immersive theatrical experiences.

This comes as Gloucester Stage launches its 2026 season with the regional premiere of Bad Books by Sharyn Rothstein, followed by Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, the world premiere of Dalloway: First Love, and the regional premiere of Moon Man Walk by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames.
