Our long time FOB Kevin From NJ writes-
Hi Joey,

Motif #1-A Different View from Janet Rice
That would make an awesome canvas print vertically.
I’d call Cape Ann Giclee and see about getting it done in a canvas wrap.

Joey—
Cheesie Mack—that Gloucester kid—is at it again!
The second book, Cheesie Mack Is Cool in a Duel, came out in June, and I’m planning a return visit to Gloucester schools in October.
More about Steve and Cheesie Mack here
I have had terrific responses to my author events. During the last school year I spoke at 84 schools from Gloucester to Los Angeles…and from Ann Arbor to Miami, including, as you know two in Gloucester. I gave over 300 presentations, speaking to more than 16,000 students. One of these visits was captured on video and is online-
Most recently, the school librarians associations of New Hampshire and South Carolina selected Cheesie Mack Is Not a Genius or Anything as one of the best children’s books of 2012-13…and NYC’s Bank Street College of Education selected it as the top book in the humor category (ages 9-12). The series’ third book, Cheesie Mack Is Running Like Crazy!, will be out in 2013, and I have just been signed to write books #4 and #5.
I hope you’re doing well, lobster prices are favorable, and GMG is thriving!

Got Great Goat Cheese?
Gloucester Quilter submits-
Here in Gloucester, we know great food. And we know the importance of fresh, local food. Gail Hobbs-Paige is a James Beard Award Winning Chef and a dear friend of Gloucester Quilter. She left the kitchen to start a goat farm in rural Virginia. Since 2007, Gail has also become the face of "slow food" advocacy efforts (chefs communicating the value of cooking with locally grown products) in Virginia. Her work and cheese has been written up in Bon Appettit, Washington Post, Southern Living to name a few. Like our own E.J. Lefavour, Gail has turned to KickStarter to take her homegrown business to the next level – because her product is that good. Gail and Caromont Farm are in the final stages of "Vats the Idea" campaign to buy the next generation vat-cheese-making machine.
LIMITED TO 10: If you pledge $100, you will get 1000g of Caromont Cheve along with a selection of her small-batch, specialty cheeses or charcuterie cured meats 6-times a year = every other month you will get a sample of great, fresh, local, artisanal goat cheeses and/or cured meats.
There are lower pledge-levels to support Gail and Caromont Farms. Trust us: you will not be disappointed.
Click here to email Caromot Farms. Call Caromont Farms at 434-831-393.

Good Harbor on a beauty of a day
For Kathy Downer
FOB Kathy Downer has a cottage on Long Beach and had asked a number of times why no one on GMG ever puts up photos of Long Beach. I’d never been there until Violet took me there during my intimate island tour. So these photos are for you Kathy and everyone else who visits and loves Long Beach.

Just a Ghetto Child in Gloucester
Shemekia Copeland’s astounding performance was the climax of Gloucester’s Blues Festival 2 weeks ago. We blogged all day from the festival, but never showed you any of Shemekia’s set — so here you go: In this video, she walks the crowd singing without a mic, while the band plays from the stage. Perfect mix; powerful music; gave me the chills.
We’ve had a busy month of festivals, here in Gloucester. This weekend we’ve got 28 artists in 16 venues — two of which are schooners. And that’s just Friday & Saturday (see the Friday & Saturday live music lineup here). You’d think it was another festival. Nope. Just more evidence of Cape Ann’s thriving music scene.
Start the weekend a little early with the epic Seafood Throwdown rematch today at 4pm at the Farmer’s Market at Stage Fort Park. Then the Harbor Loop Concert — 12 live music choices in all. See tonight’s live music lineup here.

Phyllis A Association Welcomes Melissa Cox’ Husband Bill
Hey Joey!
I just wanted to share the announcement that I have recently joined the Board of Directors for the Phyllis A Marine Association. As you may know, we are a group dedicated to restoring this historic vessel whose owner helped bring gillnetting to Gloucester and we are located at the Gloucester Marine Railways, Rocky Neck. I am looking forward to helping in any way I can to get the Phyllis A back in service so that people will be able to enjoy the experience of sailing on her as well as learn more about the fishing history of our awesome city, for years to come.
I also wanted to let everyone know that this weekend we will be down in Salem for the Antique and Classic Boat Festival (please see flyer below) and would love to see all you GMGers come on up the line and say hi!
Thanks for the support!
Elizabeth Gauthier Gallery
During the block party, I discovered that a new gallery has opened on Main Street! The sign isn’t up yet, but it showcases the work (in several different artistic media) of Elizabeth Gauthier – hence, the name “Gauthier Gallery.”
The gallery mostly contains her own work, but also some work by her sister. Besides oil and acrylic paintings, she paints custom t-shirts!
Is that cool or what? Here is the artist with some of her work:
During our conversation, she mentioned that she plans on teaching as well as doing her own paintings. As I mentioned before, her sign isn’t up yet, but the gallery is actually on Main Street in Gloucester, between Sal’s Barber Shop and the Compass Rose tattoo place (right in the middle of the photo below):

Gloucester Dog Park Entrance Pergola Construction Underway
Construction on Gloucester Dog Park’s entrance pergola has begun and will continue over the next two weeks.
(Griffin, a yellow lab and Addison, a black lab wait patiently as their guardian Chris Fogarty of CF Carpentry Inc. frame the entrance pergola for the dog park.)
Before the school year ended, the students at Gloucester High School carpentry tech
department under the direction of Dana Griffin did one final project. They built the
boxes for the two sheds making up Gloucester Dog Park’s main entranceway pergola.
Then along came Chris Fogarty of CF Carpentry, Inc., along with Aaron Waybret, Bendan Fogarty and Phil Bazel who volunteered their time to frame the roof and pergola.
Greg Santos and David Dolloff of Glosta Builders also got into the act and volunteered
their manpower. Timberline generously donated materials and Precision Roofing is donating and installing the roof. What a community project!! And excitement is building (no pun intended!!).
The Friends of Gloucester Dog Park would like to thank all of the above vendors and
crew for making this ‘roof-raising’ event a reality.
We are still in need of a professional fundraiser to get us to the home stretch and a
PR person to publicize each of our steps. So if that person is you, please contact us at
gloucesterdogpark@gmail.com We need you!!
And as a reminder, this park is being built Entirely by private donations. Please consider
donating. Make checks out to The Gloucester Fund, earmarked in the memo line ‘dog park’
45 Middle St, Gloucester, MA 01930.
Coming shortly on-line donations will be accepted. So stay tuned and visit
http://www.gloucesterdogpark.com as that information becomes available.
Your dog will love you for it!!!!
