Just like last Sunday, it’s worth getting up by 9am to catch “Curtain Up” on 104.9

L-R: Chris Langathianos, Chris Trapper

Just in case you haven’t noticed, North Shore 104.9’s “Curtain Up” host, Aurelia Nelson, has been inviting Cape Ann rock stars to be her guests more frequently of late and it points to a trend of featuring locals on the station as a whole (see some examples here).

Tomorrow (SUNDAY) at 9AM, she does it again, this time with Festival By The Sea producer Chris Langathianos and headliner Chris Trapper.  You’ll get a sneak preview of festival highlights and hear Chris perform.  Definitely worth getting up for — even if you stay out late at tonight’s Block Party.

And just in case you’re not quite sure which of tonight’s excellent shows to catch, here’s a list of all live music to help you decide.

Over 12 hours of music on Sunday starting at 11am.

Lots of parents take their kids to the Harbor Loop concerts and the Block Party and everybody has fun.  Tomorrow (SUNDAY) is another great chance to get the kids out to hear music with 14 live shows starting between 11am and 7pm — and excellent evening shows to follow for those who, like us, keep the kids up late.

Harbor Loop Concert Series ~ Photos of “The Honky Tonk Women of Gloucester and Tonekat from last Thursday Show. 7.18.2013

music at

Last Thursday show was so good. No rain! I could hear harmonic melodies as I made my way down Pleasant Street. The Honky Tonk Women of Gloucester opened the evening with some Doo Wop and many 60’s song hits. Tonekat took over the second half and ended with a mixture of smokin rock and blues, leaving the audience wanting more. Both bands play around Gloucester if you hear of them playing check them out. You will not be disappointed.

Park in front of Gloucester High School at 7AM tomorrow and go out back and check out these boats! High Tech SUP paddleboards, tandem canoes, sliding multi rowing boats, fixed multirowing boats, Banks Dory, Workboats, fixed and sliding doubles and singles, outrigger canoes single and double, sea kayaks single and double, fast sea kayaks, high performance kayaks, even Hawaii Five Oh outriggers with everyone yelling hut! hut! hut! 225 boats all told.

Or hang out somewhere on the shoreline or on Pavillion beach after 11AM and watch these boats race to the greasy pole finish line. Whatever you do, do not stay inside on this beautiful weekend clicking on the Rubber Duck Tracker! OK, maybe once, then get in a boat and get out there.

Hi guys,

I’d like to give a shoutout to Gloucester Rental Center.  Go there if you need something for your Party, or Equipment & Tools.  In order to refinish my deck I rented a monster orbital sander that worked wonders.  It did exactly what I needed.  And when I decided I needed a nail gun, it was a quick trip to rent that too!  Great staff.  They made it easy and flexible.  If you are a homeowner you should be aware of this place.  Plenty of times I have hesitated on a project because it is impossible to have all the tools, never thinking I could easily rent them.  Check them out.  I’m glad they are there.

Hi Joey,  When I was a kid growing up in Gloucester in the 40’s we got our penny candy from Higgins store on the corner of Smith St by St Ann’s church I know they renamed the church but to me it’s still St Ann’s. Thanks for all the memories you bring up everyday…Grace Duncan

Blackburn Challenge 1987: 2013 is tomorrow

Fred Bodin posts:

nina1987

The Blackburn Challenge, 1987. The cox of the Seine Boat Nina blows the war horn for power strokes. This heavy boat is filled with one ton of pure muscle and brawn. Notice the bow wake, and the wake off her stern. A very impressive sight – I can still hear that horn. One my striking memories of the Seine Boats racing was one of them plowing through the Atlantic Ocean with a smoking hibachi over the side grilling hot dogs and burgers. Of course there was a keg aboard. Row on!

Fred Bodin photographed the Blackburn Challenge from 1987 to 1992, from the committee boat.

A Statement from Gran Prix of Gloucester’s Paul Boudreau

Hi Joey,

The Gloucester Times is going to run a story about the Gran Prix of Gloucester, possibly in Saturday’s edition. I wanted to share the statement that I provided them. Please feel free to run all of this.

On a personal note, I love Gloucester. My family and I are regular visitors at Wingaersheek Beach, on rare nights we get a babysitter, my wife & I hit Duckworth’s. My favorite drive when I need to get my toddler to sleep is heading north on 127 to Folly Cove.

As you’ll see below, we’ve had to investigate other host cities. Rest assured that we are working with the Gloucester Chief Administrative Officer to close some issues. We recently had a site visit with the Chief Administrative Officer, the Operations Manager of Public Services, Fire Chief and Building Inspector and made significant progress. Finally, we’re going through the permit process.

Best,

Paul Boudreau

We are committed to hosting a world-class event in the Greater Boston area on the weekend of Sept. 28-29. Since the fall of 2012, after the completion of the race weekend, Gloucester city officials raised concerns with the event.  We have endeavored to address these concerns to the best of our abilities. Discussions are ongoing, and we remain optimistic that we can reach an agreement. However, given the uncertainty that Gloucester would continue to be a feasible host city, we faced no other choice but to explore options for other potential host cities in the area.

Athletes from across the United States and Europe are currently making travel plans for their cyclocross race season. As the kickoff event of the premier professional cyclocross race series in the United States, we feel we have an obligation to continue to host this event. In addition, the economic impact it has provided to the community has grown tremendously. Based on a Bentley University economic impact study, roughly 40 percent of participants stay in the Cape Ann region during the race weekend.  In the race’s fourteen years, we have strived to be mindful, cooperative community partners and are dedicated to building upon the relationship with the city . However, if the Gloucester venue is not a viable location, we will be forced to seek an alternative site that meets the standards that racers have come to expect from this event.

Editor Nore from Joey C

I am fully supportive of the Gran Prix, the quality of the people it brings here and what they put back into the community between the businesses that benefit and the showcasing of our City as a venue for world class events.  Make no mistake about it, these athletes travel from all over the world to participate.

They have demonstrated that they leave the park in better shape than when they arrive. (Pictures don’t lie homie),  and show that they are willing to listen to, and work with the powers that be to insure that people are left happy.

Uhmm, yeah, the new dry-fit shirts are gonna be sick!

Top quality moisture wicking material.
Here we decided on logo size with some cut-out paper logos. The color blue is gonna be deeper blue so it will really pop! Three color printing

When I tell you I’m not compromising one tiny bit on anything we make I’m telling you I’m not compromising on any product we order or ship.
Only stuff I’d want to wear.
#Boom!
Better get your sizes and colors in. Navy/White or Black shirts. Short sleeve or long sleeve moisture wicking material. Crazy comfort. Boooyaaaa!
