Since its formation at the Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama, DGQ has worked to expand the limited repertoire by commissioning new works and adapting modern masterpieces from outside of the guitar repertoire. He’ll be bringing along the best young lion of guitarists, Mr. Matt Stubbs, with his finger-popping style and dead-on chops. Rhythm provided by Roomful of Blues clanger, Mr. Chris Rivelli, 21 jewel ticker and concussion expert. Me? I’m the basest. Czech it out!
And on Saturday night, at the same old place, I’ll be cringing in the corner, filling in for that fabulous songbird, Ms. Mari Martin. She’s bringing along some great musicians like Roger Brocklebank, on skins, Mark Retalleck, on keys and Bob Enik on glitar. Mari really blew the roof off last time she was here. I gotta check Fred’s insurance. It’ll be a great night for dancing!

WHO: Frank McClelland is the James Beard award winning Chef and Proprietor of L’Espalier. L’Espalier has been a perennial “best” of America’s restaurants for three decades, earning top accolades from Zagat, Forbes, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, Wine Spectator and Conde Nast Traveler as well as nods in international media.
Chef McClelland is one of few Chefs in the country to reside on his own farm, Apple Street Farm. In one of the country’s most ambitious sustainable agriculture initiatives for the restaurant industry, Apple Street Farm is the primary source of organic harvests for L’Espalier and is a source for various other restaurants throughout the city of Boston. Apple Street Farm is located just north of Boston in Essex, MA and is Chef McClelland’s revitalization of a two-century pastoral 14-acre equestrian farm.
WHAT: To celebrate the freshest ingredients of fall, Chef Frank McClelland and his team will be hosting the Apple Street Farm Essex Harvest Feast on October 18th and 19th. Every month, Chef prepares a themed dinner showcasing the organic produce, poultry, and eggs from the fields. For the month of October, Chef has designed a five-course menu with wines pairings.
Upon arrival, guests are welcome to explore the beautiful grounds of Apple Street Farm while enjoying a seasonal cocktail and hors d’oeuvres prepared by the chefs of L’Espalier. They will then be seated outside (or under a tent in the case of inclement weather)

FLYABOUT: An Installation featuring
BRAD STORY’S flying sculptures and CAMILLA MCFADYEN’S textile collograph panels
Flatrocks Gallery invites you to enter a striking and whimsical world created by artists Camilla MacFadyen and Brad Story.
The large scale textile panels by MacFadyen evoke beautiful, dreamlike landscapes. Her wall sized printing plates – inspired by walks through local woodlands, marshes and stretches of shore – are made from organic materials found at these sites. The patterns made by bits of twig, or leaves or pebbles are colored and layered in a painterly way to create views that are at once familiar and new. The artist’s use of hemp and silk as her “canvas” imbue the landscapes with qualities of air and light particular to each.
Inhabiting the environment created by MacFadyen’s panels are Brad Story’s flying sculptures. Brad, the seventh generation of famed Essex ship builders, draws upon a lifetime of experience with wooden boats for the inspiration behind these startlingly original creations. Their forms are governed by the artist’s full attention to the ways in which objects move through wind and water, but each piece is given a personality by Brad’s lively imagination. These are creatures, not objects.
We are REALLY excited by this exhibition, and we know you will be, too.

Behind THE Barriers heads to Gloucester, Massachusetts, for the Great Brewers Gran Prix of Gloucester, known across the cyclocross community as “New England Worlds!” Jeremy Powers is back in Gloucester after a long swing away from home, and is keen to repeat his winning effort from one year prior. Whether you’re working on a long-term project, building a portfolio, a book or trying to find a cohesive thread in your work as a whole, each participant’s work will be reviewed with emphasis on how to strengthen their ability to communicate ideas visually.
In this workshop, you’ll gain important perspective on the editing process as you work to refine your own portfolio, and how to look at your work and see what it’s asking for. We’ll also explore how sequencing and context can alter the power and meaning of images. Bluesy Rock ‘n’ Roller Peter Wolf is best known for his stretch as the front man with the J. Geils Blues Band, where he was known for his stage antics and quick wit. After seeing the J. Geils Band in concert for the first time, Wolf immediately joined the band where he became not only the leader of the group, but also handled much of the group’s business affairs. The band soon became well known for their vivacious and exciting live performances. After gaining recognition in New England, they caught the attention of Bill Graham, a well-known promoter who continued to book them, helping them gain fans in every city they visited.
After the band parted ways in 1983 due to creative differences, Wolf took on a solo career releasing seven solo albums and collaborating with countless musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. His sixth solo album Sleepless was listed as one of the 500 “Greatest Albums of All Time” by Rolling Stonemagazine in 2002, and his most recent release, 2010’s Midnight Souvenirs, won best album at the Boston Music Awards Some of his best solo hits include “Come as You Are”, “Lights Out”, “99 Worlds” and “Nothing But the Wheel”.
Wolf will be joining us at the Shalin Liu Performance Center with a special acoustic show to share some of his new music, old favorites, and that hugely charismatic stage presence for which he is so well known.
