Say What? Fire, Ice & Music in Downtown Rockport!

People assume that the off-season in Rockport means that the town is entirely shut down when, in reality, winter in Rockport provides great opportunities to enjoy downtown when it is at its most beautiful with snow cover and ice — all of it reflecting the thin winter light. Plus you can easily find parking, which is never a bad thing.

Local residents and artists Rick Ehrstin and Rob Trumbour have collaborated with composer Andy Tierstien to create Wharf Music: a public art installation bringing together light and music. The installation will take place in the heart of Rockport on Bradley Wharf over four evenings: February 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

Come get warm by the fire, listen to the music as it washes across the water, check out the installation on the wharf and feel a moment of gratitude that you live in a place where cool stuff like this happens.

A Valentines Day Tweet~ Heart For The Backyard Birds

PrintThe cold stormy weather is making the birds extra hungry this season. Wednesday morning I noticed the birds had completely devoured the food in the birdfeeder I hug a few weeks ago, leaving the sac and plastic try both completely empty.  Luckily I had all the ingredients in the house to make and  hang a new Valentine Tweet~Heart shaped Bird feeder embellished with colorful dangling heart adornments and cupids arrow.  I am thrilled to report that the birds were happily eating yesterday morning as the storm neared Gloucester.

Captain Pete and His Buddy Mike

Hi Joey,
Today is the 7 year anniversary of one of my dads very close friends passing away. I’m sure you remember him, he was very hard to forget. His name was Mike Comfort from Schenectady New York. Dad met him when he would come down to fish at the yankee fleet with his wife Stacey and two step daughters Jaime and Tessah. They became very close, as my dad was like a father to the couple. Mike lived to go deep sea fishing and lobstering with my dad. If you could just write up a little something, that would mean a lot to us and to his widow. She hasn’t been here much since his passing, but she may come down this summer to go out fishing. I have attached a few pictures of Mike living the life he always wanted being a Gloucester fisherman. Thank you.

Second is Mike standing on the stern of the Allison Carol
And third his Mike and my dad “bonding” with a swan docked at captain Joe’s on the Allison Carol

Valentines from Heart Master Jim Dine

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Jim Dine HeartDrawing is not an exercise.
Exercise is sitting on a stationary bicycle and going nowhere.
Drawing is being on a bicycle and taking a journey.
For me to succeed in drawing, I must go fast and arrive somewhere.
The quest is to keep the thing alive…

One of my very favorite Jim Dine works of art is the Twin Red Hearts, located at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Paul Lowry photo taken in the snow is beautiful and the perfect image for your February Valentines!

I don’t care what that Groundhog saw . . .

sign of spring

This is the real sign of spring!  I looked out my windows through rain streaked glass and saw a huge wave of robins filling the trees on Rocky Neck Ave and Wonson Street.  I’ve never in my life seen so many robins at one time.  These aren’t winter overs – they are here to tell us that spring is right around the corner!  Either that or it is a mass robin suicide pact.  I vote for the spring option.
