Looking westward along Coffin’s Beach to the houses on Two Penny Loaf, across the Essex River to Cranes Beach and beyond to Plum Island. From this vantage, on a clear day, we can also see the Isle of Shoals on the New Hampshire – Maine border. It still amazes me that just 15 minutes away by car is Niles Beach from which we can view the Boston skyline, so that from two locations in the City of Gloucester we can enjoy the view of more than 50 miles of beautiful New England shoreline.

Years ago Marshmallow Peeps were only sold during the springtime months surrounding the Easter holiday. Today they are manufactured into dozens of holiday shapes and marketed in retail stores year round. Even though they are now regularly available, I think many would agree that spring time, and Easter wouldn’t be complete without enjoying a brightly colored sugary traditional bunny or chick shaped marshmallow Peeps! Gloucester Police Launches Spring Citizens Police Academy
Beginning Tuesday, April 29, 2014 and continuing for the next 8 weeks, the Gloucester Police Department will be offering its 3rd Citizens Police Academy to Gloucester residents age 18 and over. Gloucester Officers will instruct classes on subjects such as domestic violence, motor vehicle law, patrol procedures, accidents, firearms awareness, juvenile and drug problems, and many other topics relevant to police work. The academy will also include a police ride-along, a tour of the Middleton House of Correction, and a K-9 demonstration.
This class experience is designed to bring citizens into the station and give them a clear picture of what it’s like to be a Gloucester Police Officer. Citizens will learn a great deal about all aspects of police work and leave with a true representation if life as a police officer.
Application forms may be picked up at the police station and area businesses. You may drop the completed applicationoff at the front desk of the police station or mail it to: Lt. John McCarthy, Gloucester Police Department, 197 Main Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. We will notify you on or before April 22, 2014. Please feel free to contact Lt. Mikey Wins Plastic Head on Small Animal Photo Contest!
Mandy Leone Moffett on behalf of her son Mikey submitted three photos of “Squirrel With Plastic Horse Head”.
Contest rules here.
Contest rules state that entries had to be photographed in March and sent in on April 1st. So Mikey wins first second and third place. That makes three Rubber Ducks which Mikey can pick up down at Joey’s Dock or at the next GMG Mug Up.
If there are any late entries there might be consolation prizes.
