That’s Gonna Hurt Coming Out Bro…
You thought popcorn kernels or red pepper flakes were a bitch? Â I’ve got a feeling turtle shell pieces are just gonna tear that butt to shreds.
Hope it was worth it.
Deb Clarke’s Cezanne Phase
It was ’98 or ’99 when Fred Kepler studied with me. Â We both painted when he came for his lessons. My paintings were used as ‘training’ paintings that i used to demonstrate various techniques, color mixing, approaches to composition, etc. as the painting developed. The Cezanne phase painting above is the result of Fred’s visits to the studio over an 8 week period.
The still life above is 26×32″ .  We  set the still life up in the center of the floor under studio lights which were staggered warm/cool/warm/cool in overhead tracts.  Cezanne was the compositional reference.  I did not use Cezanne color theory in my work; I needed to learn how to use black and white gray.  That was my lesson.  Fred’s lesson was composition with warm/cool color theory and drawing thrown in.
Today Fred visits the world’s great paintings with his dear Lenore. Â I have seen some terrific paintings that he has done of Lenore, or other people standing in front of the masterpieces. Â He has learned to teach himself by copying the best paintings, while sharing his love of art with his wife and having a great time. Â He has even come to know the joy of selling some of his work!
So glad I did not throw this painting away. Â I was tempted to over the years, but some of those creases are just to awesome not to admire. Â oh, the braided rug is one of the Willis family treasures. Â I sure hope I didn’t get too much paint on that beauty.
best and onward,
deb.

Pet of the Week-Pandora
Oh my goodness, I am in Good Morning Gloucester! Now everyone will get to know me better. My name is Pandora and I am a four-month-old Retriever and Great Dane.
My siblings and I are here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane in Gloucester. We will be medium to large when we are fully grown.  If you have the time for an active pup and want to put some excitement in your life, consider adopting me or one of my siblings, we are all sweet dogs and we love to snuggle!
Have you visited the shelter yet? If you haven’t you should come for a visit – it is incredible! Great outside trails, wonderful staff and volunteers and I love all the other animals here.  If you visit, we would love to have some gently used towels, and of course, it is ok to bring toys for shelter cats and dogs.   If you see you at the door, I will be sure to greet you!

The Rockport Elementary School EarlyAct Club (Rotary Club for elementary school students) vs Rockport Rotary Club Basketball Game is Thursday evening, May 22, 2014 in the Rockport Elementary School Gymnasium, starting at 6pm, with the game beginning by 6:30. Please come and support the kids, and bring family and friends! Only $5. per person, or $10. per family! Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit community and world service projects. Many thanks and come cheer us on!
EarlyAct™ is a school-wide service club for elementary students from ages 5 to 13. It is sponsored by one of the local Rotary clubs in the township in which the school is located. The mission and operation of EarlyAct™ are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provide the foundation and natural succession into Interact.
EarlyAct™ provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others.
EarlyAct™ also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit
their school, local and global communities.

Live Ballin: Ring Night at FENWAY!
Splish Splash
The day we planted blueberry bushes is the very same day the catbirds began to call our garden home. We now see Gray Catbirds (Dumetella carolinensis) throughout the seasons, devouring the seeds and fruit of holly, crabapple, winterberry, magnolia, blueberry, and shad. Their cat-like cries, which lends the species their common name, are welcome and often heard. Gray Catbirds are in the Mimidae Family and, like their relatives the Mockingbirds, also mimic the songs of other birds.
Although I have read that catbirds are shy, they seem relatively sociable in our garden and aren’t threatened by the presence of people within close proximity. We keep the bird baths filled with fresh clean water and I especially love to watch the catbirds from our kitchen window as they are so exuberant in their bathing habits–diving and splashing and then drying their wings at the edge of the basin. Oh Joyous Spring!
