Cheryl Arena plays the Thursday Night Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line 8:30-11:30 August 21st.
It’s a pleasure to have back that rascal of the blues: Ms. Cheryl Arena. A great vocalist and harpist, she’s sure to have you shakin’ your tootsies all over the dance floor. We weren’t sure she was gonna make it, since she accidentally overdosed on Polish Fly last week and nearly broke her arm bowling. However, rest assured, all is well in bloozeland and we got the band to prove it. She’s bringing along Pete Henderson on guitar. Pete’s a real treasure and hasn’t been here in a long time. He’s killer! Forrest Padgett handles eggbeater duties, and I, Salmon Dave Sag provide cosmic relief.
And Friday night I’ll be down to Guiseppe’s eating pizza with Orville Giddings and who knows who else. But I think Marque Earley and Steve Chaggaris are the great unknowns. We’re gonna have a 120 volt contest, see who can last the longest. Free sparring partner for any of you over the age of 50! Seeya there!

Now That’s A Carousel
I am absolutely in love with this carousel! Boston’s Rose F. Kennedy Greenway is unbelievable in so many ways and the carousel is the cherry on top! The 14 different critters…all hailing from the fine state of Massachusetts…are whimsical yet gorgeous all at once. It is a true piece of art! How wonderful would it be to have a carousel of this caliber here in Gloucester?
The boys and I took the train into the city yesterday and spent 6.5 hours exploring, laughing, and learning between North Station and Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. We walked through the Haymarket Farmer’s Market, past the North End, and along the docks of the Boston Harbor Marina to check out some of the crazy “mega yachts”. We saw the seals at the New England Aquarium, got some lemon slush, and rode the newish “thrill ride”, CODZILLA (and got wet). The boys played in the splash pad on the Greenway, rode the carousel, and fed the pigeons. We took a horse-drawn carriage ride through the financial district, had a nice outdoor dinner at Ned Divine’s, and then ice cream at The Berry Twist in Faneuil Hall.
My vision for our day in the city involved going at least as far as The Public Gardens, the Frog Pond, and the Swan Boats….but somehow, in the blink of an eye, it was time to catch the 7:40 train outbound to home. A true testament to the wonder of the Greenway and surrounding areas is that we were able to spend an entire day there and still wish that we had more time. Next time.

Dedication of the Pathways Butterfly Garden
This morning the dedication of the new butterfly garden at Pathway’s for Children was celebrated with speeches of thanks, and a song and poem performed by the Pathways children. The sun was shining, the bees and butterflies were on the wing, and there were lots of smiles of joy on the faces of the children and attendees. My most heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation to all who have given so much to make the garden a success!
Just some of the wonderful people who made the garden possible: Andrew, Bernie Romanowski, Beth Graham, and Peter Van Demark

Boston’s North Ends Feast Of The Fisherman
Yesterday Husband Barry and I enjoyed the late afternoon hours walking around Boston’s North End. The streets of the North End were filled with familiar sounds and smells of all things that make up an Italian Fiesta; Food, Family, Friends, and Fun! This past weekend the celebration of “The Feast Of The Fisherman” hosted by the Modonna Del Soccorso Society drew large crowds from near and far. Back in late June, JeanneMarie Linquata, of Gloucester shared the Linquata Family’s lifetime connection with the Modonna Del Soccorso Society in Boston North End during The “Linquata Family Fiesta Tradition Interview”. JeannMarie Linquata explained how she lovingly continues to keep “Aunt Josie Deliberti’s” tradition of hand making the annual Fiesta Committee members signature ribbon adorned St. Peter and Modonna Del Soccorso Pins for the feast of St.Peter hosted by The St.Peter’s Fiesta Committee in late June here in Gloucester and The Feast Of The Fisherman Hosted by The Modonna Del Soccorso Society in Boston MA. Yesterday I spotted JeanMarie’s beautiful pins on dozens of shirts in the crowded streets of the feast.
