Homie Is Flying At The #GloucesterMA Booth At The Seafood Show

Big time props to all those who made the Gloucester Booth happen. For too many years I’d attend the International Boston Seafood Show and Gloucester had no representation. This group has elevated our town on an international stage and for that we should all be proud. Thank you for all you do.

You know how cell phone companies come out with incredible numbers of features with every product upgrade?  Well I’m willing to bet that if a cell phone manufacturer developed an “opt-out” button for group texts that it would be a huge hit.

There are definitely situations where group texts are big time helpful but I’m sure that I’ve initiated some group texts that have irritated the hell out of people. This is why they shouldn’t go away, but have the option to self opt out of them.

Here’s the situation:
You’re waiting for an important business text about what time to meet up when you get a group text invite to a BBQ with all your best buddies. You’re thankful for the invite but know that you won’t be able to make it because you know you’ve got this business meeting.  So you politely decline and then put your phone back in your pocket while waiting for confirmation on what time you’ll be meeting your business associate.

Aaaaaand that’s when your phone starts to blow up with replies (not unlike your own initial reply) and then counter replies all throughout the text message chain. Each time your phone chirps you’re obligated to check it because you’re still waiting for that confirmation from your business associate.  Phone in and out and in and out of your pocket.

If you knew you couldn’t make the BBQ right off the bat and you had an “opt-out”  button,  you’d be all set.

Maybe I’m missing something and it already exists.  If so,  let me know.  Also how do you handle group texts?
PS:Thanks cousin for the great tweet this morning 🙂

Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Cape Cod. “Capt. Joe”

Does anyone know if this is Gloucester’s “Capt. Joe”?

Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Cape Cod

Jayhawk training flightBOSTON – Search and rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, medically evacuated a man from a fishing boat 110 miles east of Cape Cod, Friday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Boston Command Center received an urgent call from the fishing vessel Capt Joe stating that a 62-year-old crewman aboard was suffering from severe abdominal pain.

Considering the potential severity of the man’s condition and the distance from land, Sector Boston conferred with the 1st District Command Center who initiated the medevac.

Air Station Cape Cod was directed to launch two air crews, one aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to conduct the hoist, another aboard an HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft to provide communication and support coverage.

Despite winds gusting to 40-knots and seas reaching 10-15 feet, the Jayhawk crew safely hoisted the man aboard and transferred him to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

“The on-scene conditions were challenging,” said Lt. Preston Hieb, the command duty officer at the Sector Boston Command Center. “Our crews train in all weather, and we’re always to respond,” he said.

Sista Felicia’s Signature Homemade St. Joseph Zeppole

This morning while whipping up a few batches of my famous St. Joseph Zeppole for tonight’s Novena Coffee, I decide to fix a special tray for my Comere Bridget Mathews, to serve at their families St. Joseph Feast at the Mathews family home this afternoon! After all a St. Joseph Feast is not complete without St. Joseph Zeppole Pastry. A Traditional St. Joseph Zeppole is filled with a pastry custard and or sweetened ricotta cream filling toped with either cherries, candied fruits and or small chocolate pieces, finished with a light dusting of Confectioners sugar. Today I prepared my signature St. Joseph Zeppole Pastry, in an equal assortment of  pastry custard, and sweetened ricotta cream filling, accompanied with sweetened cherries!

Each year I prepared 168 St. Joseph Zeppole for our families Feast, and all 168 Zeppole were enjoyed as fast as the freshly baked pastry shells were filled. This year I’m definitely planning to make a few dozen more!

Spring is Just One Week Away! A welcome sight after the long winter we’ve had in New England. The mountains of snow are beginning to melt and signs of spring are finally cropping up.

Did You Make A New Years Resolution to Exercise? Have you been able to keep it, or has it gone by the wayside, like the ‘disappearing sidewalks’ that made getting around this winter more difficult? Even if you LOVE winter and winter sports like I do, the brutal winter temperatures made it difficult to get outside to exercise. Hopefully, you found…
