Well if this isn’t the coolest damn#Christmas #lobster decoration ever I don’t know what is. My buddy Bex added the lights. Someone from #RockportMA made the lobster trap wire lobster. I’ll find out who and credit the creator once I talk to Bex.

Help from GMG and FB Friends

This morning a wonderfully kind woman helped me after I took a tumble on the rocks at Brace Cove. I would love to thank her but only know her first name, Carol. She is tall and slender and has a friendly and sweet large black dog named Rider. If you know her name and have her contact information, please email me at kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com. Thank you so much for your help!

Do you believe in ‘Old Wives Tales’?

22

When I get a cold I will do ANYTHING to get better FAST! I literally have had 5 colds in the past 20 years. I have an immune system of steel!

So I heard the old wives’ tale of putting a peeled onion in a bowl in your room and it absorbs bacteria.

Have you heard this?

Onions and the Flu

Q: Can Raw Onion Prevent the Flu?

A: There is no scientific evidence that a cut raw onion absorbs germs or rids the air of toxins/poisons.

A wives tale that dates back as far as the 1500’s claims that placing a cut raw onion in rooms throughout a residence could protect its occupants from getting the bubonic plague.

Long before germs were discovered, the dominate belief was contagious diseases were spread by miasma, or “noxious air.”

While false, this belief remained part of folk medicine through the 19th century claiming to ward off epidemics like smallpox, influenza, and other “infectious fevers.”

Welcoming 2016 is a great time to “Honor a Teacher” in the Gloucester Public Schools

Welcoming 2016 is a great time toHonor a Teacher” in the Gloucester Public Schools

image

A year ago, the Gloucester Education Foundation (GEF) introduced the “Honor a Teacher” Program to recognize your child’s teachers, middle school house or teaching teams, school, and any staff member(s) whether it is a cafeteria worker, custodian, or guidance counselor. More than 80 awards, totaling $3,000, have been raised by this Honor a Teacher Program and donated to GEF, a 501(C)(3). The Gloucester Education Foundation drives innovation, encourages creativity, and expands student opportunities in the Gloucester Public Schools. This recognition program provides an opportunity for parents, grandparents and community members to honor individuals and teams in the school community who have meaningfully impacted your child’s education.

Students, grandparents/community members and parents can hit the link, www.thinkthebest.org and click on “Honor a Teacher” and complete the prompts to process a secure debit/credit card payment or donation via Pay Pal. No amount is too small and tax deductible donations remain confidential.

There is a spot on the form to include an optional short message to a special teacher, staff member or team/house that is included in the body of the acknowledgement letter. Your recipient receives a letter acknowledging a student or family gift.

The Gloucester Education Foundation is grateful to have so many dedicated faculty and staff members in the Gloucester Public Schools and this “Honor a Teacher” Program is one special way to say thanks during the 2015 holiday season and the upcoming New Year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM NICHOLS CANDY HOUSE

FullSizeRender (11)

Barbara Nichols wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Nichols was humming today, filling orders for customers near and far. My father-in-law always puts in a request for their freshly roasted mixed nuts as do my sister-in-law and Mom adore Nichols’s fudge, all four flavors! And it goes without saying that their homemade chocolate treats make wonderful stocking stuffers.

Nichols has terrifically convenient shopping hours, particularly if you are in a pinch (for that always much appreciated chocolate hostess/host gift). They are open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 9am to 8pm and Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
