Annisquam on a beautiful Sunday afternoon

My View of Life on the Dock

Once in a while we pick a winner. This is one of those times … trust me. Ruby Rose Fox will be a major Rock Star in the not-too-distant future.
We’ve presented Ruby Rose Fox on stage twice: Opening for Martha Davis + The Motels last April at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre (where Sheila Roberts Orlando took the photo at right) and in a co-bill with Jesse Dee at The Cabot last July (see this review).
In addition to being one of the best singers and songwriters we’ve encountered over the past dozen or so years, Ruby produces extraordinary videos (see them here).
Today she premieres a double feature. That’s right, folks … 2 videos at once. See a review by Infectious Magazine here. Better yet, watch and enjoy, below (top volume and full screen recommended). You can see Ruby at Katrina’s on June 18th with Gloucester’s own Inge Berge opening (another one of our favorite singer/songwriters/video producers — see some of Inge’s videos here and listen an excellent Inge Berge song below).

Last evening at the Gloucester House the local chapter of the worldwide Awesome Foundation held its monthly Pitch Night and after hearing three terrific proposals chose Shep Abbot’s Gloucester Speaks documentary project as the winner of a $1,000 grant. Shep is interviewing a wide range of Gloucester folks to capture their views at this pivotal time of change and renewal in the city.
Awesome Gloucester solicits proposals from the entire community and chooses the top ideas to attend a public Pitch Night on the evening of the third Monday of each month. Submitters make their case before the 20 local trustees who have each donated $50 toward the monthly award. The top vote getters walk away with $1000 in cash, no strings attached. Proposals to make Gloucester more awesome can be made at Awesome Gloucester.

Took a run up to Fisherman’s Park after work last night to see how the clouds looked over the city. While I was there I met DJ with his daughter Isabella and nephew Drew who were having a blast sliding down the rock. I’m not sure their mothers will be happy that they might need new pants but they were having fun!

One of my “picks” for last week was the Annual Plant Sale at the Trustees, Long Hill Gardens. While I didn’t make the actual plant sale, I did take a group of my “grown-up” students for a walk up there on Saturday afternoon for a quick botany lesson. It truly never fails to disappoint and if you haven’t hiked the property, you really should.
Instagrams for now, more photos tonight at 6:00! Thank you Nancy Marciano!!

Poppies popping, tulips resplendent, and flower pots poised to bedazzle, The Mary Prentiss Inn, conveniently located near Harvard University, is an utterly charming bed and breakfast, outfitted with all modern amenities (and a secret garden around back). Homemade breakfast is served daily, along with freshly baked treats for afternoon tea. Jennifer, the proprietor, and Lisa, who runs the front desk, could not be more welcoming. For graduation, business, or simply a romantic get away in the heart of Cambridge, The Mary Prentiss Inn is tops!!

Tulips in the city were hard hit by a cycle of freezing and thawing, after they had started to emerge. Nonetheless the tulips at the Inn are still blooming great guns!
