If you’ve been following the fundraising efforts by Charles and George King for the Gloucester High School Albert Bacheler Civil War coat, then you know how creative and ernest they are in accomplishing the restoration of this exciting piece of Gloucester history. Thanks so much to these two dynamos for the thank you notes; not only are they go-getters, but thoughtful, too!

The Crossing is a Celtic folk group that utilizes fiddle, cello, flute, whistles, guitars, bodhrans (frame drums), harp and bagpipes to bring alive the essential jigs and reels. Their original songs carry on the centuries-old tradition of good storytelling found in the celtic lands. Add their rich harmonizing vocals, and the result is captivating and energizing. The Crossing has been entertaining audiences since 1984, playing concert halls, pubs, gatherings, churches, Irish fairs and festivals. Their latest album, Baile (Home), exemplifies their traditional foundation with themes of faith, hope, love and truth.
The Crossing will perform at the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, MA (1120 Washington Street) at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 30. Admission will be free of charge and a free will donation will be taken. For more information, call 978.283.2345
No! Towards the light Mr Asparagus, towards the light!

In a case of the early bird not getting the worm that damaged asparagus (behind little stiffy) was likely the first up but I used an iron rake to clear the leaves a week ago and must have whacked it right in the cojones (that would be the apical meristem.)

Eastern Point Light at dusk
This is one of my favorite “unique” photos of Eastern Point Light. It’s not unique because of the pretty skies behind it or the nice light on the house from the setting sun, it’s because this was taken when they were filming a movie there. The cyclone fence is removed and its staged with boats and old fence posts. Love how natural the scene looks. It was a short lived view!

Gloucester’s Tim Sanborn Owns Cazeault Solar & Home and Explains How Solar Is A Complete No-Brainer Investment
Tim Breaks down the crazy amount of State and Federal Tax credits and SREC’s available which has Solar paying for itself within 3 or 4 years and after that actually puts money in your pocket.
Solar is now at a point where not only does it make financial sense, it’s actually one of the best investments you can make, paying you back a return!
Tim Graduated from Gloucester High School in 1971 where he was the captain of the football team and the company that he owns Cazeault Solar and Home did roughly 80 installs on the North Shore (a majority of which were on Cape Ann) last year alone.
Call to talk to Tim at 978-281-4625 He’s local and he’s a straight shooter.

7 SEAS WHALE WATCH REPORTS SPECTACULAR MULTIPLE WHALE SIGHTINGS
Fifty to sixty Humpbacks, two Finbacks, and hundreds of Atlantic White-sided Dolphins, 7 Seas Whale Watch had an extraordinary day at sea!
April 27, 2016
We just returned from what will do doubt be remembered as one of the best whale watches of the 2016 season. I hesitate to even give an estimate of the number whales we saw because I feel it will set unrealistic expectations, but here goes: We travelled 13 miles southeast of Gloucester (to the northwest corner of Stellwagen Bank) and saw an estimated 50-60 HUMPBACK WHALES (I identified 30 individual whales and I know I didn’t get to half of what was out there), plus 2 FINBACK WHALES and hundreds of ATLANTIC WHITE-SIDED DOLPHINS!

All of the whales were feeding. At one point we had a group of at least 12 Humpbacks feeding together. The whales were blowing huge rings of bubbles at the surface (these bubble rings trap and concentrate fish) and then rising up through the bubbles with their mouth wide open in one of the most impressive feeding displays we have seen in a long, long time.
While feeding was no doubt the main activity of the day, we were also treated to a spectacular display of breaching from a young Humpback Whale calf – “Venom’s” new calf!
You can see many more photos, read the full account, and book your spectacular whale watching excursion aboard the beautiful Privateer IV here: 7 Seas Whale Watch
