“Welcome Yule! – A Midwinter Celebration” returns for a third year to the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse.

The Welcome Yule Chorus, Children’s Troupe and Folk Orchestra, under the direction of

Rose Sheehan, will present this lively, seasonal pageant on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary of Gloucester’s historic Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse. The program is expected to run two hours including a fifteen minute intermission.

Yule is the name for the old, pre-Christian Winter Solstice festivals celebrated throughout northern Europe. ‘Welcome Yule!’ highlights symbols and festivities associated with those older festivals – wassailing, holly and ivy, yule logs, candles – and includes Christmas lore that blends the old customs with the newer festival.

Keri Anderson is a Elementary art teacher, a visual artist as well as a singer songwriter. Some of her bands she has performed with are: Whalebone Farmhouse, Sugar and The Cane Breakers, Keri Anderson and The Big Lonesome. Her current band Little Sugar and The Big Spoonful is lead by powerhouse guitarist Mike Lynch.

I write charming because his feet are exquisitely enormous! As it dove for food, they were put to good use as a sort of paddling propellor. Niles Pond is a special place that provides habitat for myriad species of wildlife, birds especially. Its close proximity to the ocean, abundance of food, and clear fresh, gentle water draws beautiful creatures to our shores all year round.

We will certainly miss this great store on Main Street in Gloucester. They have some great sales from 20% to 30% off. My favorites were their pajamas.

The Larcom Performing Arts Theatre

If you’re looking for a holiday show, some live music, or even a good laugh….this could very well be the ticket!

The Larcom Theatre, in addition to being full of history and really quite beautiful, has a pretty diverse line-up on deck for your enjoyment.  Do yourself a favor and check out their schedule.

We’ll be going Sunday evening to hear the Eric Mintel Quartet and their Charlie Brown Jazz Tour….

The Eric Mintel Quartet have been thrilling audiences of all ages with their electrifying jazz, on Sunday the Eric Mintel Quartet performs their highly successful “Charlie Brown Jazz” concert tour featuring the beloved holiday cartoon and music by Vince Guaraldi.  Songs include, Christmas Time is Here, Skating, Christmas is Coming and the legendary Linus and Lucy plus many other reworked holiday favorites.  This concert is fun for the entire family

…and we’ll definitely be ordering tickets to one of the performances of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

The wide variety of events planned this month and next also include Suzanne Vega (loved her), several performances of the Nutcracker, A Rolling Stones show called “Satisfaction”, and two great comedians…Paul D’Angelo (on New Year’s Eve…such a fun idea) and Lenny Clarke.

The Larcom is quite the little gem in the community of Beverly and surrounding towns and I know I, for one, need to remember to check out the schedule every once in awhile to see what is happening.
