Hiding In Plain Sight

My View of Life on the Dock

Kayaking in Gloucester Harbor on Saturday was so glorious. Rick and I were out there about 4 hours, as we were coming in this sight looked so pretty.

Apparently they have already cast the part of Jo Hopper (1883-1968), depicted sketching here in Gloucester on Good Harbor Beach, in a watercolor portrait by her husband, Edward Hopper (1882-1967), in the collection of the Whitney Museum.

If you know me you know that I’m an absolute numbskull with tools or doing any type of installation work that involves my hands.
After reading about bias lighting strips which throw light from the back of your TV or under cabinets or on top of cabinets or behind desks and reading the absolute ton of glowing (pardon the pun) reviews on Amazon, I figured for $9.99 what did I have to lose.
Let me tell you, this dummy (read me Joey Ciaramitaro) and my lovely wife (it’s kinda a forgone conclusion by now isn’t it?) installed it on our TV in less than a minute and the results are AWESOME!!!!!
You literally measure it out, peel the backing tape off and plug the usb into one of the usb ports on the back of your tv. it goes on when your TV is on, it turns off when you power off the tv. No need for another remote. It makes the darks look darker. it makes the lights lighter, it reduces eye strain and it just truly looks cool and not in a cheesy way at all. The design-wise very fussy Kate loves it so you know it’s cool as shit.
I likes it so much I ordered 4 more for the other TVs and the back of Kate’s desk.
Here’s the link to purchase on Amazon
This picture doesn’t do it a bit of justice- it’s truly awesome.
A simply glorious Good Harbor Beach morning on this weekend’s one-month-old Piping Plover milestone! Hatched on the morning of June 22nd, he is officially thirty-one-days old today.
Yesterday morning at daybreak it was warm and windless, and today, very chilly and windy. The chick’s foraging and resting habits reflected the weather. During the warmer morning he spent a great deal of time at the water’s edge feeding hungrily.
Today he was chilled and, within the roped off sanctuary, he tried several times to nestle under Papa. It looked super silly because Little Chick is nearly as big as Papa Plover. Papa rebuffed him and Little Chick found a clump of vegetation to warm under.
Little Chick on the left, looking not so little. Papa standing on one leg to conserve heat.
Papa Plover is an outstanding dad, never too far away, and always keeping a protective eye on Little Chick.
Folks are asking, where is Mama? With some Plovers, the female will leave the family to begin the southward migration, departing earlier than the male and fledglings. The GHB Mama has not been seen in over a week. This was not the case with the PiPl family that I filmed last year; they maintained a family bond through the end of the summer.
The Piping Plovers that migrate along the Atlantic Coast winter primarily from North Carolina to Florida, as well as the Bahamas and West Indies.
A sighting of Little Chick flying about ten feet across the beach has been reported!

Serious cleaning, organizing, and purging going on over here at 3 Smith Road in Rockport and it is absolutely time for a yard sale. Seems a little silly as it’s going to be a gorgeous weekend, but swing on by if you’re in the neighborhood.
