Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco, one of the artist’s exhibiting at the holiday show, takes inspiration from both history and antique glass. She creates custom-designed hair accessories, using pieces of sea glass and pottery collected from the shores of Cape Ann. She creates hair accessories and jewelry, which are exhibited in numerous boutiques and galleries.
David Piemonte, whose work is featured in the holiday show, is a fine-art photographer. He is fascinated by what the camera captures, as opposed to what the eye sees. He uses his captivating black-and-white photographic images to create interesting and unique greeting cards and prints.
Ruth Mordecai who is well known for her masterful mixed-media paintings, is also included in the RNAC holiday show. Her canvases and watercolors make use of a broad range of colors and sculptural references.
José Estrela is an established graphic designer whose art is created upon wood, tile and paper. José’s mindset and work developed over the years reflect upon the vivid landscapes, colors and music of his native Azores, Portugal and reinforced by early schooling in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lisa Carlson is a jewelry designer; whose glass beaded jewelry is created with beads from China, Czech Republic, Switzerland, India, and elsewhere. Some beads are pressed, others faceted, and some have a special coating that reflects light in ways that defy description. Many are lined with silver, copper, or gold making the beads sparkle and shimmer. They often take on a harmony of their own that is unexpected. She specializes in sparkle, color, and unusual shapes.

Great fun at the GHS Pep Rally prior to the game with Danvers on Thursday last week.
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA, was one of the few cultural districts selected as a host venue for the MCC Power of Connection Tour launch. Today’s gathering includes city and state officials: Mayor Romeo Theken, Senator Bruce Tarr & Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante of Gloucester.
Guests are just arriving for the welcome reception. I will post all we glean from MCC new grants and updates. Gloucester has two districts: Rocky Neck and downtown Harbortown. On the walls at Rocky Neck center–the holiday group show is installed upstairs and a John Nesta tribute downstairs. I am looking forward to the upcoming poetry night featuring Jay Featherstone, Suzanne and others.

This is our first experience with the Christmas parade and tree lighting event. It did not disappoint! Performing groups, Mrs. Claus and Santa, sister city teleconferencing, chowder, popcorn and hot chocolate. There was even a snow machine!!! Well done, Gloucester! It was crisp enough to remind you it’s winter, but not bone chillingly cold. An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the performances and the camaraderie. Obviously a great deal of effort was put forth by a large number of dedicated people to make the event memorable.
Here are some before, during and after memories to add to Donna’s collection:
Now it’s headlong to the holidays! Hang on to your hat!

As of Friday afternoon, and in preparation of building the Lobster Trap Tree, the base of the tree was aligned in a circle. Many more traps were stacked neatly in piles around the perimeter.
David Brooks and the Art Haven crew began building the tree Saturday morning. Around and around and around the crew worked stacking traps all day, carefully securing each and every pot with ties. As the tree grew taller and taller, the man on the ground passed the lobster trap to the next person in the chain, hand to hand, to the top of the tree. By early evening Saturday the last lobster trap was in place and the tree construction complete.
Teamwork!

Unlike in previous years where our local lobsterman have generously donated their working traps, this year’s brand spanking new traps were donated by Three Lanterns Marine & Fishing. The lobster traps are deep green, with lighter bright green nets, and red plastic escape vents. As Joey Ciaramitaro and lobster boat Captain Mark Ring explained, modern lobster pots are designed with in-trap escape vents, which allow for freedom of movement in and out of the trap by lobsters that are too small to catch legally. The larger in-trap escape vented lobster traps are one of the many ways Massachusetts lobstermen work together to insure a sustainable lobster fisheries for future generations.

Great turnout for Small Business, Shop Local on Saturday and also on Black Friday. Also shopping local helps our great businesses going. You would not be able to find Lobster P.J. anywhere but Pauline’s Gift or have an owner of a store welcome you dressed as a Christmas Elf, plus great olive oil with great gift ideas. Grateful to live here. Great progress on the best Lobster Trap Tree in the world.
