Bobbi Chepulis single mother of 4 children (3 highshool girls, 1 middle school girl and 1 boy in elementary school) were victims of a fire at their apartment this morning.
Thankfully her and her children are are all ok and safe. However they have lost all their belongings including all clothing. Her son ran out of the house without a jacket and shoes on his feet. They are absolutely desperate for any type of donations including clothes for her and her children.
Please help us raise some funds to try and get their life and belongings back together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps.

Saturday – The upcoming Cape Ann Reads celebration at Gloucester City Hall is Saturday January 27 from noon to four. Gail’s article includes interviews with the four Library Directors and Mayor Romeo Theken. The color photograph that’s reproduced is a stunning drawing by Kim Smith from one of her children’s picture books, Beauty on the Wing. There’s also a photograph from Alice Gardner’s drawing installation at The Book Store for her published book St. Peter’s Fiesta. Here’s the link to the article and a clever title design: All Booked Up: Community Reception and Fair Celebrate literature and art for Children by Gail McCarthy, Gloucester Daily Times
We lost one of the great characters of Gloucester a couple of days ago “Frank from Gloucester” passed away. This is the last photo I took of him. I will miss him…he was a great guy and a lot of fun to have around!!! God bless you Frank.

Winter is a wonderful time to bird in northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire. In celebration of this season, the Joppa Flats is hosting the Superbowl of Birding XV on January 27, 2018.

The Zeiss Joppa Cup is awarded to the team that collects the most points by the end of the specified 12-hour birding day. Strategy and planning are essential in order to win this competition.

Pick #3: Alastair Moock & Friends Winter Doldrums
Head to the Cabot and enjoy Alastair Moock and Friends.
Twenty years into his performing career, Alastair Moock has managed to carve out a unique niche for himself. He is a songwriter committed to celebrating the roots of American music while knocking down the walls between different audiences, genres and musical traditions. Today, his audiences range from adults to preschoolers, and he plays everything from theaters to nightclubs to schoolrooms. Like his boyhood hero, Woody Guthrie, Moock believes in the power of music to reach all people — young and old, far and wide.
Moock started performing in 1995, moving from his home outside New York City to the folk haven of Boston. After working his way up through the local coffeehouse and club circuit, he began touring the U.S. and Europe, eventually graduating to renowned events like the Newport Folk Festival and Norway’s Bergen Music Fest. In 2007 Moock was nominated for a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Singer-Songwriter of the Year. The Boston Globe called him “one of the town’s best and most adventurous songwriters” and The Washington Post declared “every song a gem.” ….. visit this site to read more

Although Bubo appears to have an injury surrounding his left eye, it did not seem to affect his ability to see. I sent a photo yesterday to Erinn Whitmore and both she and Jodi Swenson confirmed that he’s probably okay at this point.
This afternoon he flew into Hedwig’s territoy, which had been hers all day, and after an aerial battle took place, he claimed her rock. I don’t know if it’s the light but Bubo’s eye does not look any better today. The crows and seagulls are vicious and unrelenting towards the Snowies, other raptors don’t want them in their territory, and they are battling each other–it’s easy to understand how an eye could become injured. Posting photos tomorrow of the Snowy battle.

Cape Ann Youth Hockey would like to extend A big THANK YOU to Coach Geary and the Gloucester High School hockey team for spending their Saturday morning with the Learn to Skate crew.
What a great experience for the skaters, both young and old. Many of those same Gloucester Fisherman started pushing milk crates around in that very same program! How special for them to return and share their time and talents with this year’s youngest skaters as they gain confidence and skill. No doubt those young skaters will remember it for a long time to come!
These photos are courtesy of Dawn Enos. She caught some really special moments. Check out Cape Ann Youth Hockey’s Facebook page for even more photos.

Since it was kind of grey and wet, we decided to take a ride to Salem which has been on our list of inclement weather activities. Strike One: the Peabody Essex Museum was closed—-and I think we’ve made that mistake once already…….
Off we go to the Salem Maritime National Historic Site. What’s that you say? Government shutdown??? Parks open but no staff or amenities??? Strike Two although just wandering around reading the signs was pretty interesting by itself.
Oh well, let’s look at the map and decide what next. The New England Pirate Museum sounds interesting and it’s right here. Oh…….Strike Three “Closed for the season”…..you would think with the federal government shutdown, those pirates would need someplace to go.
It was a very quiet Monday in Salem and I found myself really wishing I had a drone…..
I’m thinking the FAA would probably come right to life if I’d tested this NO DRONE ZONE out.
