Thank you Kathleen Adams for bringing us day 2 of Cape Ann Arts Alive – the children’s art camp looks absolutely wonderful!!

2018 – Day 2
The day started with work on a papier mache project creating props for the grand finale to be held at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport.  Singing, dancing, and chiming practice, then off to the Cape Ann Museum for a tour focusing on the sea and fishing on Cape Ann, sketchbooks in hand. After returning to St. John’s there was more practice on the music for the Friday performance! More fun and exploration tomorrow!

A beautiful afternoon on Wednesday even though it had rained in the morning.  When I went to the beach late in the day, the clouds showed what kind of day it was.

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS AT WINDHOVER!

Last night the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a wonderful evening at Windhover Performing Arts Center hosted by Lisa Hahn who mangers this delightful facility. The highlight of the evening was two performances by the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company. All of the attendees were truly inspired by the terrific performances.

This Mini Dance Festival features free master class dance studio classes, an open rehearsal Thursday night, weather permitting two outdoor performances on the stage both Friday And Saturday night at 7 PM. Just bring a snack and some wine and enjoy, you’ll be glad you came.

A Walk on the Breakwater at end of day

I always enjoy a walkout  on the breakwater, meeting people,and watching the Schooners Ardelle and the Lannon sailing in the harbor.

Gloucester is Great.

Volunteers Needed for Transcription Project: In 1895 a man named Dolliver traveled around Gloucester, MA and wrote in cursive the words carved on the tombstones. The Gloucester Cemeteries Committee is working on a transcription project that will digitize Dolliver’s work, but we need volunteers to help decipher these handwritten historical documents, which will eventually be accessible on line. Daisy Nell leads campers in “Heartbeat from the Sea.” Campers learn a dance, more songs, and take off for City Hall where they meet Her Honor, Sefatia Romeo-Theken and the visiting Mayor of Gloucester, England!
Maggie Rosa leads them up to the bell tower for a panoramic view of the city, and art historian Susan Erony gives them the background of the famous WPA murals.  Back to St. John’s for more music:  singing and chiming. What will tomorrow bring?

THIRD IN ONLY ONE WEEK: JUVENILE RED-TAILED HAWK TREATED FOR RAT POISON

Our local wildlife rehabbers Erin Hutchings and Jodi Swenson (CAPE ANN WILDLIFE) are on the front lines of trying to save our raptors from rodenticide poisoning. They have treated three juvenile Red-tailed hawks just this past week alone. Two perished and a third is barely hanging on. Tufts does necropsies on all dead raptors-98 percent have rat poison in their system. There are much safer and less cruel alternatives to second-generation rat poison Please see previous post about safer alternatives to the new second-generation deadly poisonous rodenticides.

I’ve ever heard in all my years in the industry. I consider her to be
