Artist Talk | Jeff Marshall
Sunday . January 27th . 2:00 pm

Jeff talks about drawing and his current work in the exhibition ‘Working the Waterfront’ If you missed Marshall’s acclaimed exhibition at the Cape Ann Museum, this is the last opportunity to view this stunning body of work, which is the subject of Marshall’s year-long observation of the ‘comings and goings’ on Gloucester’s Morse-Sibley Wharf. Marshall’s work at Jane Deering Gallery was recently noted by The Boston Globe’s Critics’ Pick as one of the best exhibitions to catch.

On Saturday, thought should move the seltzer water and beer from the enclosed porch to the garage. well, forgot about it until Sunday morning. I heard this weird noise and looked out on the porch. This is what I found. ICKY..

Incredible.

One of (maybe the only) positive things about the extreme low temperatures is the cool sea smoke that engulfs Cape Ann.

I did not think it was possible to feel alone on the boulevard but it was pretty quiet yesterday morning. Great job DOW with the clean up barely 12 hours after storm ended.

The CAYH Mites held a scrimmage prior to the Gloucester vs Lynn game. Congrats to the Fishermen on the 6-5 win! It’s fun to watch the future of ice hockey in Gloucester develop. It looks promising!
Fun fact: Here is a Tonno branded barrel at Ryan & Wood Distillery here in Gloucester. Our staff helped fill it up in April 2018! It’s about 55 gallons.
Can’t wait to open it in a few years! Don’t worry we will remind you.

Gloucester was ideally positioned last night, with a clear sky, to observe the January Blood Moon eclipse.

Snapshots from a brief tour around the back shore while out doing errands this afternoon. With temperatures hovering at 5 degrees, Cape Ann was blanketed with a thick layer of impenetrable ice, snow squalls, and sea smoke.
Happy to see the temperatures are heading towards the forties after Tuesday!
A crazy person surfing at GHB 🙂
We were watching the receding tide erode the sand in its rush back to the ocean. Fascinating.

My friend Anita shared these photos of a rarely seen Golden Sparrow.
The beautiful blonde sparrow was feeding with Starlings and House Sparrows. A Golden Sparrow is a leucistic House Sparrow. Albino House Sparrows are even rarer.
A leucistic bird lacks melanin pigment due to the cells responsible for melanin production whereas an albino bird is caused by a genetic mutation causing an absence of tyrosinase in pigment cells.
If you are not sure if you are observing an albino or leucistic bird check the eyes. Albino birds eyes have pink eyes, while the eyes of leucistic birds retain pigment and are dark.

Moulton’s 4th stop today for MLK Day. He said they’re all busy despite a late night for Pat’s fans 😉! He spoke about Lewis, Civil Rights, Freedom Riders, and more before the awesome music next on the program.
