Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs due December 14th.
The Mass Cultural Council has set a December 14th deadline for organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.
The Gloucester Cultural Council invites you to apply for a grant for your arts, humanities, and/or science program. This year we plan to give priority to programs that:
have a direct link to Gloucester
are accessible to diverse groups of people
demonstrate innovative ways to bring science to the public
build momentum and create vitality within the community
According to Council spokesperson Elizabeth Neumeier these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Gloucester — including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.
The Gloucester Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
This year, the Gloucester Cultural Council will distribute about $10,000 in grants. Previously funded projects include: The Gloucester Writer’s Center Magma Gloucester, The Cape Ann Symphony, Rockport Music, The Musary and Manship Artists Residency.
For local guidelines and complete information on the Gloucester Cultural Council, contact Elizabeth Neumeier at GloucesterCulturalCouncil@gmail.com. Application forms and more information about the Local Cultural Council Program are available online at

A word from Jane Deering to artists and fans:
“‘Absolute Secret 2020’ @ JDG ended November 3rd, 2020. The show was a wonderful success for the gallery’s mission of providing exhibition space for area artists and great fun for all art lovers who found very special art works for $20. The credit for this event goes to the many many artists who so generously donated work to the gallery’s cause. My warmest thanks to the artists listed below (PDF here).”

Fitz Henry Lane was known for his use of light in his artwork. so I turned the tables on him recently and gave his sculpture its own “light treatment”. You can see how quickly the light changed and I like how the harbor lights in the background add to the story.

A few years ago, just having a product made with CBD was considered innovative. Big bottles of oils and tinctures with 50 mg of CBD per bottle were the norm. By today’s standards, these CBD products seemed primitive.
Little was known about the form of CBD inside, the amount of CBD per application, or even other information that would be considered basic consumer requirements.
Herb Tech’s mission is to take the CBD industry to the next generation by not only using advanced penetration science to efficiently target CBD receptors but also creating proprietary herbal extract blends around the consumer’s need for a full “entourage” effect.
We have created two specific product lines. The first uses a powerful proprietary topical penetration technology. The second product line uses advanced oral/transmucosal penetration technology. Both product lines are formulated around unique herbal extract portfolios designed to address various consumer…

Today I have been thinking about family and friends who served or are active, and took a drive by Cape Ann Veterans Services. The staff and volunteers for the center upgrade the facility and grounds with a light touch and public art. Raymond Fisher fabricated the large silhouettes adorning the exterior.
On this Veterans Day 2020 I thought I’d ask Raymond Fisher some questions about his service with the military: When did he serve? Where was he stationed? What were his jobs and some of his duties? I’ll ask carving questions later :).

Veteran’s Day… a time to honor those we have lost and those who have served & continue to serve our country.
THANK YOU to all of our veterans, especially to many of our ABC clients: Oscar B., David C., John C., Mike D., David D., William G., Joseph G., Loveeta J., Fred M., Walter N., Edward R., James T., Paul W. & George Y.
And to our very own ABC Home Healthcare nurse, Clare, who served on the front lines then and who continues to serve on the front lines caring for clients now, we thank you for your service and continued dedication to helping those in need ![]()
