Progress Starts Today: Seaside Sustainability Recognizes World Oceans Day

Every year on June 8, World Oceans Day is celebrated across the globe to raise awareness of the Earthโ€™s oceans, and the need to care for them. For Seaside Sustainability, a nonprofit organization based in Gloucester, MA, every day is World Oceans Day. The organization equips individuals, businesses and communities around the world to take action to protect ocean health. The 2021 World Oceans Day theme is โ€œLife and Livelihoods,โ€ which emphasizes how both wildlife and human-life rely on our oceans.

On World Oceans Day and every day, Seaside Sustainability provides a variety of opportunities to make a difference at the individual, local, and global levels.

  • Individuals can learn how large their plastic footprint is by taking Seaside Sustainabilityโ€™s Plastic Quizzes. The short series covers topics such as personal care, food, grocery, beverages, and the household. At the end, quiz takers are provided with tips for how to reduce their plastic footprint.
  • Seaside Sustainability is a distributor of Seabins, which can help reduce microplastic accumulation wherever they are placed.
  • Additionally, a Single-Use Plastic Ban Guide is available as a free download to help aspiring activists create legislation in their community. This guide is based on Seaside Sustainabilityโ€™s extensive experience and expertise implementing single-use plastic bans, including one of the most comprehensive in the country.

Seaside Sustainability has created a series of infographics that will be shared on social media to promote 2021 World Oceans Day and the educational offerings Seaside Sustainability provides. The infographics are enclosed.

Definitely worth a stop especially if you have company coming to town. It is staffed by vounteers like myself and run by the wonderful Carol Mondello on behalf of the City . Stop down and say hello (PS my shift is Thursday morning and I would love to meet you).Open 9 AM to 6 PM (except on Sunday closes at 5)

The Cove At Rockport is a Winner

As some of you may know, the GMG crew did a podcast from the brand new deck at The Cove in Rockport yesterday. Though the day was a little cloudy, the hospitality from hosts Mike and Krysten Sjogren shone brightly on their newly opened deck. If you had visited this location previously known as the Peg Leg Inn, but haven’t checked out The Cove at Rockport on King Street, you are missing out on a gorgeous renovation and update. It is so beautiful and fresh looking yet still relaxing. The new deck will feature wine and beer in the afternoons and the view cannot be ignored. Shout out to Sharon and Matt as well! It’s too bad GMG Jim had to miss this podcast, but we will be visiting the deck soon for an afternoon break. Thank you Krysten for the wonderful photos you will know are hers as they are stunning late afternoon/sunset shots.
