My View of Life on the Dock

August 2021 – Splash! Enjoy photographs of Grimdrops jazzy hometown portrait off the Elm Street side of Action, Inc. **new** Harbor Village apartment building in downtown Gloucester, Massachusetts. The large scale commission heralds Gloucester’s upcoming 400th celebration in 2023. The artist was born and raised in East Gloucester.
Artist: Grimdrops [Mike Grimaldi], mural artist residing and working in Salem was born and raised in Gloucester, MA.

Hopefully NSCDSC will consider commissioning an extra add on for Grimdrops so the artist can extend his characterful water motif ideas straight to the top (and maybe add a gal for history! His vibrant notes brought Virginia Lee Burton Mike Mulligan Mary Ann and folly cove pattern references readily to mind). Come winter the mural might be visible from Chestnut Street. Bonus: if it’s topped off it will be visible year round from that vantage.
Grimdrops mural is on the map! Gloucester murals | Public art Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Pretty much no matter the weather a trip past Brant Point Light is always beautiful

As I have mentioned, we have family in town and a whale watch is very often at the top of the list of requested activities. Gloucester whale trips cannot be beaten and our favorite is Cape Ann Whale Watch where we had yet another successful trip to the delight of our family members. The whales weren’t overly active but still a real treat to watch. There was also a pod of very active dolphins which was very entertaining. Capt. John and the crew did an outstanding job, as usual. Naturalist Jamie is a real expert and our friend Keirsten is a top notch educator offering all kinds of information and tips for the passengers.
You can see a few additional pictures on Pat D’s Photos and Adventures Facebook page, but the most exciting news is that some of the whale photos I have gotten previously on these trips will be available as prints and notecards at next week’s Cape Ann Makers Market Aug 19 at the Paint Factory 4-8 PM! I will be joining a number of other outstanding vendors offering their local products and hope to see you there.

Following are examples of the images that will be available Thursday Aug 19 at the Cape Ann Makers Market:

On Tuesday morning, August 10 the Sawyer Free Library hosted a ribbon-cutting to commemorate their amphitheater’s new awning in memory of one of Gloucester’s preeminent and beloved public citizens, the late Janis Davidson Stelluto.
Dr. Michael Stelluto, Janis’ husband, her family, friends and colleagues, along with the Sawyer Free Library leadership, came together to mark the official opening of the Library’s now shaded expanded outdoor space. Gloucester’s Mayor Sefatia Romeo Thenken , former chair of the City Planning Board Jack Clarke, President of Library Board of Trustees Mern Sibley and Library Director Jenny Benedict offered remarks prior to the ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Through the Stelluto family’s generosity, the Library was able to bring to fruition the installation of a state-of-the-art awning over its amphitheater as a lasting tribute to their family matriarch Janis Davidson Stelluto, who dedicated herself to serving the Gloucester community for over two decades. Among many other…

When it came time for this couple to create their new home together, they took stock of the places already important to them. This cottage in Rockport was always brimming with potential, and it was time to realize that.

The hydrangeas on Nantucket are always so huge and beautiful

We are blessed with a group of family members for company this week so we are trying to hit some highlights. Despite the “Closed Monday/Tuesday” restrictions around town, there are still many good choices for dinner that are family friendly for a good sized group. We found the Blue Marlin Grille in Essex able to fill the bill! Our server, Jackie, gave us friendly attention and efficient service despite being very busy for a Tuesday night. We had a range of ages to please and the varied menu at Blue Marlin was perfect.
Warm bread starts the meal off, fresh and delightful. Among the entrees were Haddock Mornay, Fried Clam Plate, Shrimp and Chicken Louisiana, Stir Fry, a burger (giant!) and Steak Tips with Chicken Grill Combo and Spicy Shrimp. Something for everyone and everyone left happy. Thanks Blue Marlin Grille for making us look good as hosts.
