Dog Bar Re-Opens Tonight with Michael O’Leary

Michael O’Leary & Friends on Local Music Seen (see full show here)

OK, we’ve waited for weeks — now it’s happening.  Perfect day to get some sun and then head down to the Dog Bar for Michael O’Leary and friends at 5:30pm.

Watch the video, above, and see what you’re in for.  Since it St. Pat’s week, we thought you might be thinking about Irish music — ergo perfect time to point out just how good Michael and his band are ALL YEAR LONG!  He’s an excellent performer who captivates his audience in any venue so you feel like he’s right in your living room singing just for you.

Be prepared to stay out for a while tonight — lots going on.  See the full lineup here.

“I never knew the thief in me, ’till I took what was not mine”

Looks like Megan may already be a bit more edgy than she thinks.  Watch this video and see what we mean.  If you’re not quite sure what we’re talking about, watch yesterday’s video and all your questions will be answered by Megan’s very funny intro to her song Pay It Now.

Lots of music posters adorn Gloucester windows and websites and we think this is the best one we’ve seen in a while.

Bandit Kings are always fun and their sound is becoming known as the Gloucester sound.

No reason to stay home tonight with all the good live music about town from Celtic to Zydeco to good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll — see full lineup here.

What’s Edgy? Nose ring? Purple hair? Bangs? Electric?

gimmesound Artist of the week, Megan Burtt reveals her identity crisis and explores ways to be more edgy — and less folk — in her very funny intro to Pay It Now, the first song on her CD.

Then she plays the song with a sultry, edgy feel for an enthusiastic crowd at Sunday’s house concert.

After you watch the video, above, check out the edgy band version here.  Which do you like better?

A full weekend of music starts tonight with plenty of choices for early birds and night owls alike.  See lineup here.

John McElhenny Gets Us The Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Coverage Videos From FOX and CBS

Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Coverage on Boston TV stations

Joey,

I thought people might be interested in the clips of the Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Tournament that ran on Boston television stations.

Here is the segment that ran on WBZ Channel 4.

Here is the segment that ran on FOX 25 TV=

The FOX clip has a nice interview with Noah from The Farm Bar & Grille. But the best part is the impromptu dance party in the same clip by my friends Heather Fraelick and Gina Briguglio. Somebody call Dancing with the Stars!

Brute force string recovery @ Alchemy

Chelsea Berry broke two strings last night at Alchemy.  That’s unusual for her — she must have been excited by the packed house.

In this video, her good friend Megan Burtt’s brute force helps Chelsea recover and continue the song.

Also notice how they tease Andrew & Clayton.  A splendid time was had by all!

Lots to do tonight: folk, rock, blues, DJ Dancing and open mic.  See full lineup here.

“You think that it is a safe place to hide – But I’ve already been there”

Lyrics like that are why this song will be a HIT.  Then there’s the haunting melody, full of gorgeous melismas, sung perfectly by rising star Megan Burtt, who’s visiting her friend Chelsea Berry in Gloucester this week.

You can see the two of them at Alchemy tonight at 7pm.  Might be your last chance to catch this Denver native for a while, unless you want to follow her on tour — see dates here.

If you can’t get in to Alchemy, there’s other great music in town (see full lineup here).  And you late-nighters can see Dennis Monagle hosting The Dejas starting at 9pm at Minglewood.

Oh yeah, she can ROCK too!

Yesterday we introduced you to Megan Burt, the gimmesound Artist of the Week, and featured a video of her solo delta blues hit — and the story behind it (click here if you missed it).  Today, you get to see her ROCK.  Check out the video above.

Tomorrow you can see her live at Alchemy with her good friend and Gloucester singer/songwriter Chelsea Berry.

It’s Tuesday in Gloucester.  That means KBMG or Henley Douglas Jr.  Details here.

Rising star shines on Gloucester this week

Chelsea Berry introduced us to her good friend and fellow singer/songwriter, Megan Burtt at a house concert last night.  The fact that Chelsea has excellent taste in friends and musicians is proven by Megan.  She and Chelsea rocked the crowd.  We captured much of the concert on video.  Here’s one song and a captivating story.  Watch it and see why we chose this rising star as gimmesound’s Artist of the Week.

You can see Megan live at Alchemy on Wednesday (Chelsea will sit in too).  You may want to call ahead for reservations 978-281-3997.  The word is spreading fast that Megan and Chelsea are not to be missed!

First performance ever of Allen Estes’ new song

Allen Estes sings his brand new song Be Safe My Son for the first time on his show Local Music Seen, which will air in April.  Here’s a preview.  He literally finished the song last week, so this is the very first time it’s been heard by anyone outside the studio (except his son, Dylan, of course).

Lots of music today starting at noon.  Our friend, Inge Berge, comes out of hibernation tonight at 8pm to appear at Giusseppe’s!

See full lineup here.

Pullling the masts out of Schooner Adventure From Barry O’Brien

This last Wednesday down at The Gloucester Marine Railways, Dan Mayer or Mayer Tree Service drove his 125’ crane down from Essex and pulled the masts out of the Schooner Adventure. The plan is to inspect, repair and replace whatever is needed in preparation for sailing.

The folks behind the Schooner Adventure are hell-bent and determined to have her sailing again for the Schooner Festival. It’s has been a huge undertaking, and it’s not over, yet, but this short video gives you a little insight into the quality of the people who are bringing the Adventure back to sailing condition and the heritage of fishing under sail alive.

Best regards to you and your whole Good Morning Gloucester team! It’s wonderful what you folks do.

Barry O’Brien

Rules of the 2012 bikini/speedo Dodgeball tournament

All 5 team members will start by lining up against the back of their side of the court,
5 balls will be distributed across the center line (2 large kickball style balls, and 3
smaller “stingers”)

On the ref’s whistle, teams can race to the center to claim the balls; those who get balls
must retreat to the back wall again before throwing their first ball. Balls thrown before
that will not count.

Balls that bit the ground first or the side of the court are dead, and do not count for outs if
they then hit a player.

If a player is holding a ball, they can use it to block other balls thrown at them.

If you are hit by a ball or your throw is caught cleanly by a member of the opposite team,
you are out, and must immediately stand in the side court area in the order you were hit.

If a player catches a ball, one player from their team who is already out in the side court
area can come back in the game. (follow the order of outs, the first one who was out is
the first back in, etc.)

No head hunting. Balls thrown at the face will not count as outs and the thrower will be
warned.

Balls that fly out of the court will be retrieved and returned to the side of the court where
they went out of bounds.

Once all 5 players from a team are out, the match is over.

This is a great event for a great cause… have fun!!
