GMG Local Music TONIGHT!!

WEDNESDAY NOV. 25

From Dave Sag on The Rhumb Line Blues Party

Due to the big turkey day, our blues party will be shifting to Wednesday nite, and as a extra special treat we put together a really hot band featuring Ms. Lisa Marie!! , Forrest Padgett on drumbs, Cliff Spencer on keys, Greg t. on Qatar and myself. But stay away from me: I have a pretty bad cold(cough, cough). Nothing witty this time, just plain, old good music. See ya there!

GLOUCESTER DEPOT

Happy Tuesday!!

There are a couple of guys that started a restaurant called the Gloucester Depot that sits across the street from the train station. These guys create great dishes and are two of the nicest guys I have met. I have ordered food here MANY times and used the great coupons that they have offered. Not only do they have three fantastic coupons, but they have specials everyday. One of my favorite days is $4.00 Large Sub night on Tuesday Nights. You can actually get a Large steak tip sub with cheese, peppers and onions toasted for only $4.00. Seriously – how can you beat that!! Below is the specials each week:

MONDAY – Small Cheese Pizza – $3.99

TUESDAY – Any Sub – $4.00

WEDNESDAY – 1/2 Off All Pasta Dishes

SATURDAY – Large Cheese Pizza – $4.99

EVERYDAY – 2 Large Cheese ONLY $10.99

Another Milestone- 800,000 Hits

It passed and I hadn’t even noticed (well til just now).

When I first started the blog I was elated to have 100 hits in a single day.

We’ve come a long way since then.  The next milestone that will  have a big impact in my mind is 1,000,000.

Unbelievable.  We must be doing something right.

Woot!

Tune in tomorrow for details!!

Hmmmm…. Lots of buzz about what GMG’s cooking up for the foodies around town!

Watch this space tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the yummy details!

Remember this nice soup recipe? It’s a Winner Winner Chicken Soup Dinner!

Remember this nice soup recipe from a few weeks ago?  Well, I know it’s not a giant Christmas tree made from lobster pots, but this is pretty exciting to me!  I have posted the recipe again for you but scroll down past the recipe to see what I won!

Pesto Kissed Tuscan Chicken and Olive Stew

3 bone in chicken breasts with skin, trimmed
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup fennel, diced
1 cup sweet onion, diced
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
1 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
1 ½ teaspoons thyme
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1-15.5 oz can diced tomatoes in sauce
2 bay leaves
5 cups chicken broth
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup pitted olives of your choice (not brined) drained and cut in half
1-1lb 13 oz can navy or small white beans, rinsed and drained
8 tablespoons prepared basil pesto

Shredded parmesan cheese (optional)

Heat the oil in a heavy 7 quart Dutch oven over medium heat.  Season chicken breasts on both sides with salt and pepper and place them skin side down in hot oil to brown, turning frequently to prevent scorching.  Brown the skin and remove breast to a plate.

To the pot, add the fennel, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme and rosemary and saute until vegetables are translucent, about 5-minutes. Sprinkle in flour and stir until flour turns slightly brown, about 2 minutes.  Stir in the tomatoes, stock, tomato paste and bay leaves and the browned chicken to the pot.

Bring the mixture to a low boil and then reduce the heat to low.  Allow the chicken to cook, uncovered but submerged, until cooked through, about 25 minutes.  Remove the chicken to a cutting board and allow to cool to a workable temperature.  Remove skin and bones from breast and cut or pull chicken into bite sized pieces.

Remove bay leaves from pot, add beans and olives and allow broth to thicken and reduce slightly.   When broth is thickened, return chicken to the pot, stir and re-season with salt and pepper to taste.  Bring soup back to a simmer. Ladle soup into serving bowls and drizzle with one tablespoon prepared basil pesto and top with shredded cheese.  Serve immediately.

It won me this!

This is an Emile Henry 7 quart Dutch Oven!

Here is the link to my winning recipe and those of my equally as talented cooking pals Sally and Deborah who came in 2nd and 3rd–check them out!

It has been along “dry spell” since I have won anything in any of the many recipecooking contests that I enter so hopefully, this will start another winning streak!  If you make the soup, please let me know what you think and thank you all for your nice comments when I see you out and about.

I went to my computer, bought two gift certificates, printed them on the computer and put them in a card for my kids teachers. The great thing about it is you can buy them for any denomination that you like, with a minimum of 10 dollars. So keep this in mind with the holidays coming – its a great gift, and easy as 1-2-3-4-5.

From Doug Silva @ THE TOPSIDE GRILLE

What’s up everyone? This Thursday I have a great band playing at The Topside. The Band, Steppers Heaven, come from Boston and they play an infusion of Blues, R&B, Funk, & Rock. I had them down last month and they were unbelievable! Honestly, if you can only make it down once to check out a band at the place, this is the one to check out. If you were there last time, you know how good they are. 2009 winners of the NEUMA (New England Urban Music Awards) categories Best blues band, Best new single, Best original music, and Best female vocalist. Also, a featured group as part of the Boston Blues Society! I am expecting a great turnout and I’m going to be opening up the back lounge for the night! Be sure to get there early if you can! I will be behind the bar as always, and it’s always easier for me to socialize a bit more before the show. Be sure to try some food/appetizers & cocktails if you haven’t tried them yet. Thanks for the continued support, the night has been a success so far and the music has been incredible, hope to see you there! Thursday night 8-11. I’ll be there after 5:00.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20

From Frank Hawks
Slingdaddy has its first show at the Rhumbline in Gloucester, this
Friday, Nov 20th.  This one could be one for the ages….the stars have
aligned in such a way that members of one of Gloucester’s band’s from the
heyday of such venues as Li’l Earl’s are able to converge and thus there
will be a  mini-reunion of “Macduff”.  For those of you who remember the
vocals of Rebecca Jackson, the thundering rhythm section of  Spanks and Orlando with the twin Marshalls of them Hawks(e)s boys – we will all be there.  There will definitely be some “sittin’ in” going on.  (Don’t
worry, the twin Marshalls will stay at home).

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21

Also from Frank Hawks

For a change of pace, my other project, the Megan McKenzie Band will be
at Elliot’s @ the Blackburn on Saturday, November 21st.  Fronted by the

From GMG’s own Mike Lindberg

Don’t miss Exit 11 this coming Saturday Night at Camerons. We don’t get together that often so it’s sure to be a great time. See you there!

Already have a new license plate on my new ride but I’ll be by to pick up a new bumper sticker. I’m donating it to KarsforKids.org but if you are in need of a part drop me an email. North Shore Magazine Covers The GMG Farm Bar and Grille Hot Wing Competition

Lauren Carelli writes-

“The restaurant has hosted several bands before, but it was clear that this was the biggest event the tiny bar and grille has seen. It was as if eleven celebrities had shown up to a nightclub, and as the night went on I got the feeling that to everyone at the bar, these contestants were celebrities.”

“Last week my editor Jack asked if I wanted to go take pictures at a local event. Having an interest in photography as well as writing I said sure why not, he told me it was a buffalo wing eating contest and it would be “fun.” I figured it’d be a quick in-and-out shoot with a few people. Well…about 5 hours later I found myself standing in the corner of a restaurant observing pure chaos. I felt as if I was in a reality TV show where a grown man in a pig costume, a female version of chicken little, and three men in ponchos were the stars. By the end of the night I was at a loss of words. I felt like it was a dream, like people could not really be that crazy when it came to buffalo wings. For the first time in four years, I was stumped. “
