Grace Marie Being Towed By Coast Guarg 178 Miles

Paul Frontiero photo
BOSTON – The Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba is towing the fishing vessel Grace Marie to Provincetown and plans to arrive around 6 p.m., today.
The Grace Marie, a 65-foot Gloucester-based fishing vessel, was reported to be adrift without engine power on the southeast section of Georges Bank.
The crew of the Escanaba responded to the Grace Marie 150 miles east of Nantucket, Mass., Wednesday June 09, 2010.
The Escanaba arrived on scene just before sunset and quickly took the fishing vessel in tow. The Escanaba plans to tow the Grace Marie about 178 miles to just north of Provincetown, Mass., where they will be relieved by the fishing vessel Christine Elani.
Once the tow is complete, it will have lasted around 21 hours through gale force winds.
The Escanaba is a 270- foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Boston.

Felicia from Spain on the Stanley Thomas
While taking photos off of St Peter’s Plaza, I ran into Felicia, she was posing with her friend on some of the boats tied up. I asked permission to also take photos and here are the results. I asked her to pose on the Stanley Thomas, for the color contrast.
The only information I got was that she was “Felicia”: from Spain, that was good enough for me. I hope they are enjoying themselves in Gloucester.
You Asked We Delivered (Well Beth Swan Delivered)-GMG Facebook Fan Page
Continuing my Facebook Hold-Out people had been asking us to put our updates in a GMG Facebook Fan Page so that they could get their GMG updates through FB. There was no way for me to start a GMG Facebook Fan page without signing up for a Facebook account so new contributor (more about this soon) Beth Swan put one up for us. I guess you need to have 25 or more people who “like” you before they will give you the shortened http://www.facebook.com/GoodMorningGloucester URL without a whole slew of numbers and letters after it. Within a day the page had the required number for us to have the URL. So if you are a Facebooker, you can go to the URL and do whatever it is you do to get the updates to show up on your wall.
I think that’s what it’s called-a wall. I’m pretty much clueless as to the ins and outs of FB. But if it were Twitter it would be your timeline. Sample below-

In addition to Beth Swan I should also thank Jill and Kristen from North Shore Dish for the inspiration and how-to.

The Savory Skillet – Great Breakfast and Lunch
Jerry and Sheila run the Savory Skillet inside  Brown’s Mall.
For lunch I had the summer salad with grilled shrimp, option grilled scallops or chicken. Excellent!!!
Made with three varieties of lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Red Onions, Feta Cheese and cucumbers, and a special dressing that brings all the flavors together.

GMG – Plum Cove Gives Back
Hi Joey –
On Friday, June 4th the students at Plum Cove School held a fundraiser – Popcorn for a Cause.
We sold popcorn and water during snack time and the children (and staff members) were allowed to choose a local charity to help. We had donation baskets set up and instead of giving their money to the cashier, they put their money in the basket(s) of their choice. I can’t tell you how happy they were to be helping members of their community and to have the power to make the decision on which organization would receive their donation.
Every child enjoyed a popcorn snack, whether or not they made a donation. Some even wanted to bring money in at a future time to help a cause that was close to their heart.
All of the proceeds from the event will help the following local charities –
Wellspring, Pathways for Children, Cape Ann Open Door Food Pantry, and Cape Ann Animal Aid
I think it is important for the children to know that their contribution (no matter how big) are helping children, elders, families, and animals in their community. Thanks for sharing this with your GMG readers.
This is also my last official fundraiser as the leader of the Plum Cove PTC and I wanted to do something extra special with our students. I think it was a huge success and I hope that it is a tradition that will continue.
I’d like to thank the community for their support and GMG for helping to spotlight all of the wonderful events that take place in the Gloucester Public Schools.
Plum Cove is proud to give back!

Using The Good Morning Gloucester Search Feature To Find A Subject You May Be Interested In

Long time 80 something year old Friend Of The Blog(FOB) Ellie Cummings stopped by the dock the other day and we had a nice chat about what she likes about the blog. One thing that she told me was very helpful was the instructional videos on how to use the features on the blog to navigate and get the most from it. Based on Ellie’s comments I’m going to re-run this piece-
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of requests from people asking for pictures or videos that have been posted in the past. I’m happy to find these things for folks but it occurred to me that people must not either understand that I categorize everything that gets posted and also attach “tags” which are associated words which a search engine would pick up if you were looking for a particular thing, or they just don’t know that there is a GMG search engine to begin with.
Along the right hand column there is a search engine. It is below the “Get The GMG Podcast” Button and above the “Recent Comments” section.
Click this text to see a video of how it works
I’ll be giving more lessons on how to get more out of this blog and others.
There are many features you can use to navigate and find interesting things including the category links at the bottom of the page, the search engine, the calendar, and the older posts text near the bottom of the page. I think many people only think that the blog exists as one page and they can’t go back in time by clicking the older posts button. Most blogs including this one are rolling through with the newest posts at the top and as new posts are added the previous one gets bumped down one. Then when a certain number of posts are reached it goes to the second page which you can find by clicking the older posts text at the bottom, and so on and so on back through the timeline of the blog.
I hope this helps. Click on the highlighted text so you can visualize if you can’t understand the wording. Sometimes it’s easier to see it rather than follow written directions. Tomorrow I will highlight the older posts text in a video for those who might not get it.
How To- Blog Category Search
99% of the posts that I put up I place into a category or a couple categories. It takes a little extra time but as far as cataloging Gloucester and the blog itself for the future it pays incredible dividends. If I ever stopped posting people could use categories or the search function to find just about anything in Gloucester that I’ve posted in the past.
So for example if you are interested in lobster, you scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the word in the category section that says lobster and every post that I’ve ever put up that has to do with lobster will come up from the date closest to now back in time. There are other categories such as “eats” which contains all the food pictures from Gloucester restaurants, or pics from our kitchen.

Do me a favor and let me know if you can hear the audio in the video in the comment section below this post, thanks.
GMG Blog Reading Video #3- The Comment Feature
Most bloggers will tell you that without people commenting or giving feedback they would probably end up not putting as much back into their blog.  You see without feedback you don’t know if people are into the blog, what they like, dislike or how the blog can improve.
I love hearing from the old and new GMG readers, it makes us feel connected to you.  So if you haven’t left comments in the past or didn’t know how-
