Mermaids on Main Street

In anticipation of tomorrow night’s special shopping event in Rockport, here’s a little preview of the store The Paper Mermaid, located at 57 Main Street in Rockport, just around the corner from Front Beach.

The Paper Mermaid is a treat, both visually and practically-speaking.  Mary, the owner, carries some fantastic toys – we are faithful fans of the Automoblox line of cars (check ’em out, parents & grandparents – they are inexpensive, well-made, and kids like them – what more could you ask for?), books, and games.  She also covers a lot of ground in the world of paper.  There is a great selection of cards, many of which feature designs by local artists (including Mary herself), notepaper, and art supplies, both for children and grown-ups.  The atmosphere of the store is both modern and vintage, wildly colorful but also somehow very calm.  Shopping for toys and greeting cards can actually be a pleasant experience, shockingly enough, when you do it at The Paper Mermaid.   The store is featuring a discount during tomorrow night’s shopping event – for details give Mary a call at 978-546-3553.

So You Want To Bang Out Some Holiday Shopping? Holiday Gift Photo Orders to Support The Effort

Why stress out about holiday gifting?  I got your answer right here baby!

You want to get some Holiday shopping done from the comfort of your couch and support the Blog at the same time?

Thanks to the folks who have ordered photos.  Here is the info if anyone would like to order one (I’ll repost this once a week through the season in case folks want to contribute to the blog and my new camera fund) 🙂

Much thanks to the people who have ordered!  I appreciate it big time.

Many people have asked to buy my pictures and I’ve long refused but I’ve decided with the holidays coming up I’d give people an opportunity to get some holiday shopping done early and at the same time give the people who ask if there is any way they could support the blog a way to cut down on some of my hosting expenses and the like.

Most people charge upwards of $25 for an 8×10 photo but I decided that I’d start the pricing at $15 and give folks a break incrementally the more they buy. So if you would like to support the effort I put into the blog and want to bang out some holiday shopping early check out the pictures and email me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com with the picture number(s) you would like and your address and I will mail them to you. Each photo will come in a protective sleeve ready for gifting. All photos will come sans the Good Morning Gloucester Watermark.

You may not dig my photography but want a way to say thanks for the work put in. If so, here’s your chance.

Out of the Ashes Rises A Symbol of Hope

December 6, 2010
Congratulations to our Cape Ann Jewish Community, especially to their synagogue design and architectural oversight committee, for the beautiful futuristic building taking shape on historic Middle Street. This modern temple sends a message of hope and inspiration. Our Jewish community is alive and well, moving forward with an edifice that inspires hope for the future while honoring their founding fathers from the past.
Gloucester has been my home for a lifetime and some of my most memorable experiences involved my Portuguese neighbors and lifelong Italian friends. Reflecting on my formative years, our Jewish community the smallest of Cape Ann’s ethnic groups influenced my life more than any other; I am truly grateful.

A Tribute to John Lennon with special guest Dan King Wednesday at 8:00pm

From Fly Amero,

Thirty years ago to the day…

On Monday, December 8, 1980, John Lennon was fatally shot four times in front of the Dakota Building, NYC, by Mark David Chapman after a mixing session with Yoko Ono at Record Plant Studio.  As with the Kennedy assassination, most of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the tragic news.  Upon the suggestion of bartender Michael Gallagher, Dan and I have put a modest collection of his songs together for the purpose of a special Rhumb Line tribute.  Hope you can all be there.

Feel free to bring candles and lighters. Dinner with Fly Amero: 8 – 11pm Host and perform as always

*Each week features a special, invited musical guest *Comfort food dinner specials from Dave Trooper’s kitchen

*Sponsored by Shipyard Ale Food is prepared fresh by “Troop” and is always good!

Fred features special discounted entrees with half-off on a Shipyard every week!
