If the heels weren’t so high, I could see Paul Morrison sporting a pair of these at Night on the Neck this summer, if for no other reason than to drive Joey crazy.

On the Rails
Our friend Steve Borichevsky from www.shootingmyuniverse.com took home the honors with his photo being used on the new packaging for Fisherman’s Brew.
On Tuesday, February 28th at 6 p.m., Cape Ann Brewing Company(CABC) will host an award ceremony in honor of Gloucester resident and photography enthusiast, Steve Borichevsky.
CABC invited the general public to submit photos of local scenes that would best reflects the spirit and courage of the North Atlantic fishing fleet. The winning photo replaces the original image on the Fisherman’s Brew six pack. Borichevsky submitted the winning photo of a fishing vessel returning to it’s home port of Gloucester Harbor, which was selected from over 40 images.
Cape Ann Brewing Company
Founded in 2004, Cape Ann Brewing Company is an award-winning, family-owned, micro-brewery in the heart of the historic seaport of Gloucester in Cape Ann. Brewing beer whose bold flavor and character reflects the spirit and courage of the sailors of the North Atlantic fishing fleet, and is the same passion that drives what we do. The Fisherman’s line of beer is a tribute to hard work, and a salute to friendships that endure. Cape Ann Brewing continues it’s support of the Northeast Seafood Coalition, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving fishing communities, protecting fishery resources and feeding the world, and urges people to get involved in aiding our local fishermen.

I’ve gone to Vegas for years but rarely leave the Strip. My usual Vegas trip is not what people envision when they think of Vegas. I hardly gamble but spend most of the time at the spa chilling out in the spa lounge or wet facilities Jacuzzi saunas or by the pool and eating my way through town.
This trip my boy had a photo shoot out in Red Rock Canyon for some crazy singer. While I’m also not the type to hike I had a blast. Maybe because the Rabbit let me mess around with his full frame Canon’s but also because Red Rock Canyon is so unlike anything we have out here that I found it fascinating.
It’s only about 15 minutes off the strip and I highly recommend making a day of it if you head out there.

In my mind, nothing beats running through the woods. Personally, I’m a fan of long runs where I run like a little kid – speed through the parts I’m excited about, stop to check out the really cool things, and slow down or even walk when I want to. I know this isn’t the proper way to train for a race, but I think running should be fun and firmly believe I’ll be a better runner (or at least go running more often) if I keep it fun.
That being said, eventually I’ll remember to take a camera with me on a run along the Ledge Hill Trail through Ravenswood Park. If you’ve never seen the view from the top of the ledge up there overlooking the harbor, you need to. So either go do it yourself now, or you’ll see it digitally when my camera makes it up there with me.
In any case, what I really want is for some of you to share your favorite spots to galavant through the woods of Cape Ann! If you’re willing to share, leave it in the comments section. And if you’ve got a picture, even better! Email it to me (dawn.gadow@gmail.com) and I’ll post it for all to enjoy… Meanwhile, get out and enjoy it!

I am running for the second time in order support this amazing cause. As a member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary #32 of Gloucester, I love this country and all those that work to protect our great nation. I also definitely understand the sacrifice they make and how much we need to support them when they make their transition home. God Bless our troops and Veterans. Below is more information about the great work this cause enables.

Some of the merchants on Bearskin Neck created a great new website with photos provided courtesy of Angela Cook of Oasis Rockport (near Helmut’s Strudel at the end of the Neck). Check it out for maximum information on all things ‘Neck-related in Rockport, www.bearskinneck.net, and be sure to tell ’em you heard about it here on GMG!
Clarification from Angela Cook-
Hi Joey
I heard that you posted about the BearskinNeck.Net site. Thank you. One thing that I want to clarify, though, is that this was not set up by the merchants. It was a joint effort between Oasis Rockport and WebWeDoIt. This is a site that offers a source of information for people visiting the area and listings for all the merchants. It will be a valuable resource and a great method of generating more business for the downtown Rockport merchants. Prior to the start of the season, there are some great promotions going on for enhanced listings and online promo packages for merchants. There are plans for growth and expansion of the site as time goes on and a focus on activities in the area as well as featured businesses listed on social media sites associated with BearskinNeck.Net. It will be the go-to place for all things Rockport.
Thanks
Angela
Hey Joey,
Got another story up on the Kindle store for free this weekend- in honor of Truck Day I’m doing a promo for my Red Sox horror novella "Bambino":
The Boston Red Sox may have finally reversed the Curse of the Bambino in 2004, but only a few know the true story of what actually happened that fateful season. When a grand piano is found at the bottom of a lake in Quincy, James Flynn — hot dog vendor at Fenway Park and seventh son of a seventh son — finds himself drawn into a world of demons, exorcists, and MIT’s mysterious Department of Alchemy, where a group of secret paranormal researchers are preparing for a final showdown with one of baseball’s most legendary players.

Hello here Joey!
I stumbled across your site when looking for research info on a drydock incident on Aug 22 1877. Yes, that does read 1877! Seems I’m 4th and 5th generation removed from immigrants that made Gloucester and the seas their home and workplace for many years.
I’ve discovered that my great great grandfather had several ships out of Gloucester and even gave congressional testimonial about the Fortune Bay boardings. What I can’t seem to find is the Aug. 1877 editon of the Cape Anne Advertiser that covered my Great, great, great, grandfathers accidental dry dock Death.
Being such a great representative of all things Gloucester can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks Mike
The Illusion
At mid ebb I was sitting at the side of
a tidal creek along the edge of the marsh
that cushions Essex Bay like a large soft pillow
placed on a hard granite bed.
The stream was long and snaked off into the distance
reflecting both the border marsh grass and the
thin clouds far overhead. The stones in the water
were like signposts showing the way to the sea.
What a lovely scene, I thought, how gentle and sublime.
This is the way to experience life; immersed in beauty,
a vision to hold onto – a flashback of the
best there is – a remembrance of joyful days.
Three hours later, the stream was gone, the rock filled
bed was mud, no more a mirror of sky and grass .
And the rocks, alone and exposed, spoke only of what had been;
my river of peace and beauty now empty.
This must be a magician’s trick, an illusion that
appears and enthralls only to disappear
at the pass of a wand or the murmuring
of some secret and ancient incantation.
But I am the sorcerer. I am the illusionist
who attaches to objects and scenes the word
sublime. I conjure up the images to
be remembered; if not for me, beauty would not be.
