Peaceful Annisquam

By the end of the season on Rocky Neck, I look forward to returning to the peace and solitude of Annisquam for the winter.  This year’s return has not been quite as peaceful as in the past, with water main work being done on Leonard Street in front of my house, starting promptly at 7:30 every morning, with jackhammers, backhoes and other noisy equipment.  The guys are punctual, friendly, work hard, and are doing necessary work so we have a clean and dependable water supply, so I can’t complain, but will be happy to bid them farewell when they are finished.  Some of the hard working guys are shown here.  The one in the yellow vest refused to show his face because he said he was an illegal alien.  You should check into that Carolyn.

Power’s on, Cable’s up, Inge’s at the Rhumbline tomorrow — all is good in Gloucester

One of my favorite singer-songwriters, Inge Berge, will be Fly’s guest tomorrow (Wed) at Rhumb Line.  Inge can be bitter, touching, poignant, hopeful — holding nothing back, always wry — his music expresses his feelings (and ours) beautifully and artfully.  It stays with you (you’ll be humming it the next morning).  Here are some examples:

3PM at the point. Steady straight out of the NE at 56 mph, gusts to 69 mph but it feels like there isn’t much time between gusts. The sound is deafening between the wind, water, granite, moving, you can feel that in your feet. It seems to have picked up tempo in just the last ten minutes.

69 mph and not one leaf has left my yard? What the hell? Enough fun for one day. Meet me at Stone’s Pub for a beer.

I took a stroll down Main Street to Stacy Boulevard and back at around 1:30PM, and although more than half of the stores are closed, we were mostly just getting wind and light rain at that point.  The sea wasn’t even that choppy by the Fisherman’s Memorial. People were walking their dogs and driving around as usual.

A few bigger waves here and there, but nothing spectacular.

Joan of Arc is looking at the sky, saying to the storm, “Go ahead, make my day!”

Two hours later, the wind and rain are getting stronger…

Call to Artisans and Crafters – MAC Winter Wonderland

Four hours until landfall of Frankenstorm Sandy and do Jim Ketchopulos & Sons take a day off with 12 foot waves rolling into the property? No way. A basement needs to go into the ledge and a little wind isn’t going to stop them.
