Officer Tony Parisi on the job at today’s movie shoot for “Home Alone Mom.”
Officer Parisi retired this year after 33 years with the Gloucester Police Department. He is working traffic detail during his retirement. Super nice officer!
My View of Life on the Dock
The crew for the film production company Van Wormer International arrived on Atlantic Road this morning at 9am, just as the Aston Martin crew was wrapping up. The film is titled Home Alone Mom and is the 33rd in a series of movies based on the works of British romance novelist Katie Fforde.
After Randy Sweet’s stunning two Greasy Pole victories in two straight competitions, lots of folks were wondering if anyone has ever won the Greasy Pole contest three nights in a row. The answer is yes, Jake Wood captured the flag all three nights back in 1999! Jake still walks today and he is in third place for all time Greasy Pole captures, with seven wins. He is superseded only by Salvi Benson (11) and Peter “Black” Frontiero (9). Thank you to Jake, Joey D, and Steven for the record.
This morning I was rear-ended coming home from filming Plovers. No worries, just a touch of whiplash. I was a little shook up and didn’t ask for the name of fireman, EMT, and policeman who were there within moments of calling, but would very much like to thank them, not only for this morning’s help, but I have been thinking about them all week during Fiesta. They were present at every event throughout this past week’s fabulous fiesta, and I observed them providing assistance in myriad situations. I think we are very blessed in Gloucester to have such a dedicated and compassionate team of policemen, firemen, and emergency medical responders. A most sincere thank you for all that you do each and every day, and for all that you did to make this year’s Saint Peter’s Fiesta the wonderful success that it was.
Randy Sweet captures the flag for the second night in a row. As is the Saturday tradition, the Friday Greasy Pole winner walks first. Randy took the flag at the top of the third round. Congratulations Randy!!!
Randy’s parents Michelle and Billy, and brother Collin
According to Randy’s dad, Billy, Randy and his friends have been practicing walking the Greasy Pole since they were young kids.
Although meticulously maintained over the years, the Saint Peter statue is becoming increasingly dried out and fragile, as explained by Joe Novello, master of ceremonies at the Saint Peter’s Fiesta official opening event. Sara Favazza hopes the original Saint Peter statue will eventually be retired to the Cape Ann Museum, and perhaps live next to the Our Lady of Good Voyage statue.
The beautiful new Saint Peter statue was unveiled at Friday night’s Fiesta opening celebration. Sara Favazza, daughter and tenth child of Captain Salvatore Favazza and Maria Lucido Favazza, did the honors. Salvatore Favazza commissioned the original Saint Peter’s statue in 1926 and in 1927, Gloucester celebrated its first Saint Peter’s Fiesta.
We can add these short films and greasy pole videos to the GMG library of greasy pole contributions.
Caffe Sicilia, Main Street Gloucester
Despite the wonderfully fun and boisterous Fiesta crowd on Rogers Street, Main Street was quiet and peaceful. Tom and I went to dinner at Passports and it was a cinch to park. We had a lovely dinner and then walked to the carnival. No need to “escape” to other towns during Fiesta. Please support your local Main Street restaurants and businesses during Fiesta week.

This Thursday at the RhumbLine you must come and see the world-famous wallet-emptying Sexophonist and frontman : Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle. The big man on the hippocampus is guaranteed to loosen your platelets and cure your dishpan hands. I’m lucky I can induce him to play 3 times a year.

He’s dragging in “Big Jack” Ward, the model for Paul Bunyan’s statue in Bangor Maine. Author of “How I rose from the dead and you can too”, the BigMan will regale you with his meaty cantankerism. Of course, the diaphanous “MR.Ed” Scheer who musta swallowed a radio when he was a kid, will be on hand to help with the proceedings.Four singers times ten!
