Parasailing At Stage Fort Park Photos from Anthony Marks

Hi Joey
I was at Stage Fort Park Sunday afternoon and happened to see this
guy trying to parasail by running down the hill into a light wind. He
did get off the ground but only briefly.

Harmonic Icons

1Ruth Mordecai Construction#2(Basket Series) Albert Alcalay approaching stormJuni Van Dyke untitled

Our intention at Flatrocks Gallery is to spotlight Cape Ann’s creative heritage. This month with our latest exhibition we present three prominent artists who express our intent through their art and their lives.

Albert Alcalay, Ruth Mordecai, and Juni Van Dyke have created distinct styles that engage and challenge. Relying on vibrant color, intriguing surfaces, and compositional grace, their unique and idiomatic works evoke vivid associations in the viewer.

All three have lived and worked on Cape Ann. And all three have made significant contributions in their professional lives – Alcalay as an inspirational teacher at Harvard, Mordecai as Director of the Goetemann Artist in Residency Program for the Rocky Neck Cultural Center and Van Dyke with her tireless work as Art Director at the Rose Baker Senior Center in Gloucester.

We are proud and excited to present these three artists in our latest show . We invite you to visit and see for yourself why we have named it HARMONIC ICONS.

The 2013 Patrican Memorial Golf Tournament: Please join us for this worthy cause and a good time

Hi Joe,

Could you please run the following announcement on GMG?  We are continuing to raise money in Aran and Ryan Patrican’s memory for Aran’s now two-year old son, Thomas.  Thank you for all that you do to support our proud community.  JD Perry

The Patrican Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club on July 22.  The money raised at this event will benefit Thomas Patrican whose father, Aran, a decorated Gloucester Police Department and dedicated father, was tragically taken from us by a viral heart infection in January 2012, just after his only son’s first birthday.

The winning foursome will have their names engraved on and hold the two-foot tall Stanley Cup replica trophy until the tournament next year.  Immediately following the round of 18 holes will be a lunch with raffle prizes.

Cost is $125 per player ($500 per foursome), if you would like to play please contact Rob Bouchie at 617-638-4910 or email him at inertia@bu.edu.

As Paul Genovese touchingly and succinctly announced on his Facebook page:

As you know Thomas Patrican’s father Aran Patrican and uncle Ryan Patrican were taken from us far too early, Aran was a dedicated father, police officer, and very good friend to manyof us. We are hoping to raise funds so Thomas will have an education fund when he finishes high school and can make his wayto college without a financial burden. This tournament was started not only to help raise money for Thomas but to also pause and remember two of our very good friends, Aran & Ryan Patrican,

thanks to all who participate and make this worthwhile event a

success.

EJ and Karen Ristuben Get Their SUP On!

EJ and Karen swung by the dock on their SUP vehicles.  When I asked them if they had ever fallen they both replied only once or twice which amazes me and shows just how stable these things are.

To date I still haven’t tried it but I’m really looking forward to the back feeling like it’s not hanging on by a thread so I can get out there.

In the meantime check out the latest from Cape Ann SUP

Good morning Joey–
Would you post info on GoodMorningGloucester about the GSF Youth-on-Water program?
Info is available at: http://gloucesterschoonerfestival.net/?p=324
The application is available at: http://gloucesterschoonerfestival.net/doc/13-YouthApplication.pdf
The deadline for youth organizations to apply is August 1.

Youth On Water
With an eye toward the future, as well as the past, the Gloucester Schooner Festival Committee is seeking to support programs that involve young people on Cape Ann. This past year, the Committee chose to institutionalize the educational component of the Festival by providing opportunities for kids to sail on the participating schooners, as well as offering financial support to local programs that put Cape Ann kids on the water throughout the year.  Specifically, the Committee selected two organizations that foster greater knowledge and appreciation of Cape Ann’s coastal waters by providing opportunities for young people to sail, row or otherwise become immersed in our ocean environment. Two grants of $1,500 were awarded in 2012. Leading up to this year’s Festival, we will again raise funds, beyond the costs of producing the Gloucester Schooner Festival weekend, and offer similar support to youth-on-the-water organizations to be used in their 2014 season. To apply for these funds, please complete the attached application and submit by August 1, 2013.

Thanks very much!!
