Pete Mondello Coiling Rope

Here Pete coils rope which has been set for a long time.  The reason he is taking it off the boat is to take out the knots in the rope that make it more difficult to run the rope through the hauler.

Chris Jewell- Lobstermen Truck Series

Here is Chris Jewell of the famous Jewell hockey playing Jewell family that led Gloucester to many hockey titles over the years.

Chris skippers the Makenzie Rose out of Lobster Cove.

His full size Dodge is pretty old but keeps on ticking. He went with a rubber mat to protect the bed of his pick up and you can see that that rubber mat hasn’t protected the inside walls or rails of the truck bed so well, but what the hey, it’s a work truck.

Notice the sticker- Give a man a fish he eats. Teach a man to fish he starves. That bumper sticker is in reference to the fishing regulations that have strangled Gloucester’s fishing fleet.

Lobster Boat Marstina’s Forward Cabin

Ever wonder what it looks like inside the forward cabin of a lobster boat?

This is a pretty typical representation. Jimmy Lane’s Marstina Forward Cabin.

Off To Work- Lady J and The Wanderer

Looking like there is finally some interest in lobstering again. Thank Christ, it’s been a long winter.

Lobsterboat Activity……….Finally!

Don Lodge-Lobstermen Truck Series

Donny poses with his brand new titanium Dodge Heavy Duty Pickup truck.

Donny is a teacher and administrator at the Calvary Chapel Baptist Church. He teaches 7th and 8th grade. After Donny is done with his responsibilities at the Church, he goes lobstering.

If you would have seen Donny’s old truck you would know what a huge step up this brand new baby is. His old truck was costing him as much in monthly repairs as the payments on this beautiful new Dodge.

Donny’s lobsterboat is named the Le La Lo Da. He came up with the name after the phonetically sounding out the first syllable of his kid’s names. Lisa, Laura, Donna, and David.

Congrats on the new truck Donny. If anyone deserves it, it’s you.

Don Lodge -Lobstermen Truck Series

Notice Don has a spray in bed liner for his brand new Dodge. It is a $400 option and it is what we put on our trucks.

It isn’t the same type of spray in liner like the ones they used to put in trucks. the rhino spray in liners are more rubbery and tended to fade over time.

The newer spray in liners harden and won’t tear like the older rubbery ones.

Good Choice Don

Lobstermen Truck Series -George Hardy

Here is George Hardy and his GMC pick up.

George went the plywood bedliner route. Here he unloads traps from the truck to load onto the boat and later set.

It’s that time of year. Trap setting time!

I don’t know exactly who is responsible for the paint job on The Razzo, but it’s about the nicest I’ve seen on an old dragger.

Mark Ring’s Truck -Lobstermans Truck Series

Mark Ring, Captain of The F/V Stanley Thomas’ truck.

Here is the second truck in my lobstermens truck series.

It belongs to Mark Ring. Mark opted for a fairly basic GMC truck without 4 wheel drive. Since he ties his boat up right down the street from his house, there isn’t anyplace critical that he needs to get in the snow so 2 wheel drive is a fine option for him.

Instead of a spray-in bed liner or drop-in plastic liner, Mark opted for a rubber mat which fits snugly along the contours of his truck bed and wheel wells.

There are pros and cons to each type of truck bed protection. The pros of a rubber mat is that it is very grippy. Things don’t tend to move around much. Rubber mats are also relatively cheap in comparison to a drop-in or spray-in liner. The cons are that they don’t protect up the inside walls of the truck bed.

Mark doesn’t need to lug much gear or bait around because he stores his traps right here at our dock and we provide the bait for him so most of his truck use is light duty compared to a lobsterman that chases bait around or store traps somewhere else.

Here he has a couple of coils of rope that he took the knots out of over the slow winter months in his workshop/garage.

Pamela and Patricia Rooster Video

So I’m grading out lobsters for a restaurant order and I hear cockadooodle dooo and then a pig snorting and then a frog ribbeting.  WTF is that I’m thinking.  I shoulda known.

It’s that crazy Shawn again. Click the picture to see the video.   Oy!

Pamela and Patricia’s Funky Purple Traps

Shawn Cromwell, skipper of the Pamela and Patricia heads out to set his funky new purple traps.

It’s a first for me (I’ve never seen purple traps)

He ought to put little disco balls inside so the lobsters can have an eighties party once they trap up.
