Following her trend of interviewing local and national rock stars, Aurelia Nelson is hosting Chelsea Berry on her “Curtain Up” show tomorrow (Sunday) at 9am on North Shore 104.9FM.
Chelsea is back from a her national tour and will be performing Friday (7/25) at Cape Ann Marina’s Waterfront Pavilion (the BIG tent). There are still seats available and you can get tickets here.
We know we live in a very special music community when someone who made her name in Gloucester comes back from a national tour and remembers where she got her start by appearing on local radio and performing in local venues.
Aren’t you glad you live here?
Just in case you don’t know who Chelsea Berry is, check out this video of her at Shalin Liu:

Governor Patrick recently declared July as Hurricane Preparedness month and MEMA is following suit with tools and information relative to tropical storms and hurricanes. The press release includes some links that are very useful and informative on this issue.

Summertime in Gloucester – its time for a party!
Thursday, July 10th marks the launch of the 41st Harbor Loop Concert Series. This is the perfect event for music-loving folks of all ages and the fun-loving musicians who enjoy playing for their hometown crowd.
Concert organizer Bradley Royds proclaims “The kick-off acts are sure to cause unbridled happy-feet and impulsive head-bobbing.” Jake Pardee will open at 6:30pm, and Mamadou will hit the stage from 7:45pm until 9:00pm.
Headliner, Mamadou, is well-known for whipping up original world-fusion rhythm and reggae based music. The band is comprised of a variety of well known Boston based musicians, featuring multiple percussion players and Pardee as lead guitarist. Royds adds “Jake is fantastic and he will knock it out of the park before Mamadou does the same.”

The last few times we’ve warned you against waiting until the last minute it has been because the shows were selling out (which they did) and we didn’t want you to complain that you hadn’t heard about them until it was too late. This time we’re trying to save you $12 PER TICKET to the Gloucester Blues Festival, which is the biggest and best blues festival that will ever come to your backyard for prices like these: $28 in advance or $40 at the gate.
I know, August 9 seems far away, but you can only buy advanced tickets until August 4. That’s only 4 weeks from today and given this great weather, you’ll probably forget because you’re having too much fun in the sun during the day and partying too hard under the stars at night.
But right now, you’re reading this blog post, which means you’re at a computer or on a smart-phone, either of which can be used to get your tickets RIGHT HERE. Then you can relax and enjoy the rest of July without worrying that you’ll be distracted at just the wrong moment by that nagging voice asking, “What was I supposed to do?”
Gloucester Community Development Director Tom Daniel and his senior planner Matt Coogan will be Aurelia Nelson’s guests tomorrow morning at 9am on her 104.9 radio show “Curtain Up” where you can get all the skinny on the Harbor Walk Summer Cinema Series that starts on Wednesday.

Last night, July 3, 2014, was the 7th anniversary of the annual Runaround Sound Extravaganza, a free concert on the Boulevard after the Horribles parade. Last night we had the biggest crowd of the past 7 years even though there were no fireworks. It really is all about the music. Check out the finale.
All I can say is that I’m honored to live in the City that brought us the tremendously talented Carlos Menezes, Jr., who, along with some of Gloucester’s best musicians perform this show for free every year — and Ringo Tarr, who, along with his team, do more work behind the scenes in one day than many people do in a month.

“What is the intersection between technology, art and science?” filmmaker Louis Schwartzberg asks. Curiosity and wonder. Combining time lapses, high speed cameras, and microscopes, Schwartzberg bends the boundaries of time and space in his latest project titled “Mysteries of the Unseen World.”

This is a big coup for the new Studio — and it’ll be your last chance to see Henri Smith anywhere around here without buying a ticket for quite some time.
Joining Henri will be many of the guys who were on stage with him at The Larcom Theatre in March, including Grammy-Award winning Amadee Castenell on sax and a big surprise!
Don’t expect there to be any tables left on Saturday, so you’d better call (978) 879-4896 to make a reservation. Do it now!
Henri will be back at the Larcom Theatre in December for a very special Christmas show. If you’ve signed up for our free Concert Club, you’ll be able to get tickets before they go on sale to the public (click here if you haven’t signed up). More details on this concert coming in a few days . . .
Here’s a taste of what you can expect this Saturday — check out Amadee’s sax and flute solos!
