This is a good buddy of mine. Real nice guy. One of the best! Can you guess who it is?
Joey remembered where that sign is. If I hadn’t taken the photo yesterday, I wouldn’t have known. One of those things you just don’t notice. And my son who delivers there everyday for Ocean Crest didn’t recognize it either!
The downtown businesses really have the Irish spirit! The St. Patrick’s Day decorations and displays are great. Go down Main St., down to Walgreen’s Plaza (Kids’ Closet has a cool dragon), and peek inside the stores as well. Lone Gull has Irish coffees…Yum! Be sure to VOTE for your favorite!

I asked my son if he knew where this was. He should know, but he didn’t. Joey probably does.
Take a shot at it! Good luck!

I don’t always know what I’m shooting, but my eye says, “Hit the button and don’t ask questions!”. So that’s what I do. (And then I ask!)

I got up early again this morning and stopped down by Capt. Joe’s. It was about 7:00 and the sun, not as bright as yesterday, softly warmed the cove.
I absolutely love this time of day, especially on the weekends. And Spring is definitely on its way. The birds are extremely animated. Everywhere I go – sparrows, crows, gulls, woodpeckers, cardinals, chickadees, geese, buffleheads, ducks – a beautiful cacophony.

OK…If you’re really serious about getting into shape for the Blackburn Challenge, rowing with Damon, or walking from the car to the market for ice cream, check these guys out for role models. Notice there are no bubble butts or flubbery muscles. Gotta start NOW!!!
Rolled out of bed, threw on some clothes, grabbed the camera, nice!

Lt. Joe Aiello at Fiesta a few years back. Nice smile, Joe! Spearze and Joanne identified him..Congratulations to both of you!

When I was out shooting St. Patrick’s Day window displays Tuesday, I stopped in at Art Haven to see the kids and their projects. Some were working on the windows out front, but my friend Andy was creating art from an old guitar. He had some cool stencils and spray paint that he used to create incredible designs.
I went back today to check out Andy’s progress. He wasn’t there, but the guitar was against the wall drying.
He said it wouldn’t be a working guitar, but it sure is a work of art!
Nice work, Andy!
This in from Barbara Koen at the Dress Code:
“Won’t you marry me Bill?” Wedding Gown Blow Out on Saturday March 14th. We have forty sample gowns only worn in the shop they came from.
Who knows? You may find your ideal wedding dress right here in Gloucester. So come and support your local economy.
Peace to all.
Barbara and the Dress Code staff
Take a walk downtown and see if you can locate these St. Patrick’s Day displays before we post the poll. It will give you a chance to see the actual windows and visit some of the store owners and their employees.
I talked with many of them today and they would like you to consider shopping downtown. There’s incredible items in all of these stores.
And the kids from Art Haven had a ball decorating their windows for the competition.
Go downtown and check it out!

Who’s lookin’ at you?

Shooting into the sun can bring out details you’d never see otherwise. This shot was taken last week. I never get tired of Gloucester sunsets. —Sharon

See if you can figure out where this is and where the photo was taken from. Good luck!

These photos are from Frank Ciolino (Thanks, Frank!) at the “Winter Races” fundraiser for Gloucester’s International Dory Races.
Committee President Jim Tarantino told me this morning that he’s estimating that the event raised $2000 towards the $30,000 needed for 4 new dories and the 2009 operating expenses.
Acknowledgment awards were presented to Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, the schooner Thomas E. Lannon and Gorton’s.

Jim also wants everyone to know that his group not only coordinates races held throughout the summer, but also provides free lessons and other educational programs for the city’s middle school children and others interested in dory rowing.

The International Dory events calendar can be seen here.
So if you are interested in rowing (great exercise!) and would like to get out on the water with the experts, be sure to check this out!

Yesterday I went down to Commercial St. for the Grand Opening of the Cape Ann Brewing Co. It was packed and everyone was having a good time. The weather cooperated so there were tons of people out walking. Even though it was busy, the guys took time to talk with me, clarify some of the processes, and were just downright friendly.
They use the British method of brewing beer. Check here for information on this process and here for an explanation of the bunghole. Yikes! I hope I have this right!
Thanks to TJ, Mary, Jeremy, and everyone for a great time. Best of luck!
Careful, this has music!
