My View of Life on the Dock

About twenty 22 years ago, I was working at the graduate program at Wheelock College. We had a guest speaker coming in to talk to the students. As I was making the plane and transportation reservations, looked at her name her name was Professor Christine King Ferris. As we talked on the phone she did tell me she was Martin Luther King, Jr. brother. What an honor. She was very kind and gave me a MLK calendar and a book and also signed the book. I love the saying on the cover, A DAY ON… NOT A DAY OFF.

THE GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE FOUNDATION PRESENTS THE FIFTH ANNUAL CELEBRATION FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY ONLINE
The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation Presents the Fifth Annual Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day called Listening to Generations of Local Voices. The online event will premiere on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. on the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation YouTube channel and will be available anytime afterwards on YouTube in case you miss the premiere.
The presentation is a collage assembled from videos of Cape Ann residents interwoven with excerpts from speeches by Dr. King and John Lewis. It will honor MLK, who lived his beliefs that all people are created equal and that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. It will also remind us as John Lewis did, to remain persistent and continue to listen to younger generations as our country faces systemic racism.
We hope the video will inspire everyone to imagine what it must be like to be in the shoes of “the other” and to be humbled by what we don’t know. More information is available at www.gloucestermeetinghouse.org where you will find a link to the video, or simply go to YouTube and search for “Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation, MLK Day Celebration 2021.”

On a pretty January afternoon walked around Niles Pond.

Now that the holidays are over, if you need any unique gift for birthdays, etc. please shop locally and take a stroll down Lexington Avenue, Magnolia, Gloucester MA 01930 to Arts Abound 21C Lexington Avenue, Magnolia Gloucester, MA. Here are a couple of the items that are new in the store. Arts Abound still is carry beach towels, blankets, cards, placemats and beautiful stone ware. Thank you

I love seeing the seals hanging on the rocks and the cutie pie ducks.

The sunsets in Magnolia at this time of the year are amazing. Facing south west gives the best colors in the winter. Shore Road has many of the same people walking and taking photos at sunset. We are called the Sunset club.

Greetings all. I hope that you are all keeping safe and healthy.
We are planning on having our annual spring art show and hope that you will sign up. There are a few changes due to Covid. We can not host the opening and closing receptions because we can not have large groups in the room. (Fingers crossed that we can have group receptions by the time we get to the fall art show!) We are extending the length of the exhibit to 6 weeks to allow for plenty of time for visitors to come by in small numbers. Depending on Covid status, we may offer some weekend hours towards the end of the 6 weeks. If there is a shutdown again, we will just extend the exhibit like last year …. Also, no theme this year. Show what you want and change it out as often as you like. Feel free to forward the sign up info to other artists you may know.
Please send in your registration and check by Feb 14 so I can let those who want 2 panels know if there are any available. I’m looking forward to filling the hall with beauty again. It cheers us up so much!

Some wonderful volunteers working on the renovations at the Magnolia Library

This January I will be lending my time and effort to help re-design the library room at the Magnolia Library and Community Center. This is a really important space to our family and it is important that it continue to serve the community.

At this time of the year sunsets in Magnolia are amazing.

On Monday took a walk on Wingaersheek Beach. It was windy and the ocean was rough. The Annisquam Lighthouse looked very pretty as always.

My washer and dryer arrived right on time on Saturday as we were promised when we bought them at Doyon’s, 15 Whistlestop Way, Gloucester, MA 01930. It was very reassuring to have Doyon employees install our washer and dryer as well. The employees practiced safe protocol, wearing masks and keeping their distance.
Keeping it local makes a difference in customer service and helps our local economy strong.
