Nia Routine: Trio: The Music of George Gershwin

So many standards from the American Songbook were written by George Gershwin. ย Embraceable You, Our Love is Here to Stay and more. ย So many contemporary artists are revisiting and recording new versions of the old standards like Willie Nelson, Diana Krall, Linda Ronstadt. ย Why? ย Because this music is so timeless. ย And itโ€™s great to dance to. ย We will be dancing to new versions of the Gershwin standards. ย Come join us at the Zoom Stardust Ballroom. ย Well at least join me in my basement studio and we will have fun dancing to the Tunes of George Gershwin.

Moving to Heal

Moving to Heal Nia is a slower, less intensive class with less standing and more done in the chair. Great for people with injuries or conditions that make it hard to participate in a classicโ€ฆ

TO ALL The Bluefin Blowout CAPTAINS, CREWS, SPONSORS AND FANS

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Bluefin Blowout Captains, crews, sponsors and fans!  We have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving of 2021.

Although the tournament had to be postponed for many reasons including the most obvious, we were able to begin the planning for 2022.

The date has not been set yet as we need to work out the details with the Cape Annโ€™s Marina Resort, the City of Gloucester, and sponsors.

With less restrictions, we wish the Bluefin Blowout family a very delicious Thanksgiving with family and friends.  In keeping with the philanthropic nature of the amazing Bluefin Blowout, the holidays provide many opportunities to give back. Please be generous this holiday season.

From Drew, Rob, Cidalia and Kruti, we all wish you the best Thanksgiving filled with delicious food, fishing stories and laughter.

Happy Thanksgiving

Warren Waugh and the Bluefin Blowout Team

Anna Vojtech Open Studio

Gloucester, November 11, 2021 – Successful
multimedia artist Anna Vojtech is opening her new Art
studio on Western Avenue in Magnolia to the public
for the first time.
This open studio event will showcase a wide
variety of Annaโ€™s work spanning over four decades, including her exquisitely detailed botanical watercolors from
her collection โ€œWild Flowers For All Seasonsโ€, as well as her beautiful, whimsical Illustrations for Childrenโ€™s books.
She is most known for her illustrations for โ€œThe First Strawberriesโ€, a Cherokee Story, which has sold almost four
millions copies.
This display will feature artwork beyond Vojtechโ€™s acclaimed illustrations. The viewer will be able to
experience the depth of her artistic expression, whether it is expressed via canvas in her lush dream-scape
paintings, through her collection of secret geometry oil paintings, or fairy
tale-like abstractions where you can get lost and wander through the fields
of delicious colorscapes. Her paintings are deeply rooted in her connection
to Nature.
Annaโ€™s expansive body of work can not be defined by genre or technique.
Her artwork rather captures emotion and true feelings we all know so well.
Through her use of color, expressed with sometimes painstakingly detailed
brush strokes, other times with bold strokes and splashes, she is able to
express a deeply personal journey which creates an emotional response in
the viewer that is familiar, sometimes beautiful, often mysterious and
occasionally painful. Come experience the magic of Anna Vojtech art in her
new studio in Magnolia.
Anna Vojtech, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, is a painter and an award
winning childrenโ€™s book illustrator. She studied Animation Film at the
Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, before being forced to leave her
homeland after the Soviet invasion in 1968. In Germany she received
extensive commercial success., and there she met her future husband.
Together they emigrated to Canada and eventually to The United States.
They first settled in Marblehead where Anna raised their two sons while working developing her artwork. Today
they have been living in Gloucester for 22 years. Vojtech has played a vital part of the Gloucester art community.
Her work has been published and exhibited nationally and internationally. She has taught Illustration at the
Montserrat College of Art. She is the founder of Cripple Cove Studios in East Gloucester Harbor. She has been an
active member of the Rocky Neck Art Colony.

If I ran for Govenor Of Massachusetts I’d Run On A Single Platform- I’d Fire Everyone That Builds Massachusetts Highways and Hire Any Crew From Other Parts Of The Country That Constructs Entire Highways In Weeks.

It is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that small stretches of highway go years all screwed up and under construction and it doesn’t just affect one or two people, it affects the quality of life of the people of the entire state that drive.

Just ridiculous and I’d love for one person to give a reasonable explanation why these stretches take years to get done.

Retrospective for Mary Rhinelander McCarl at Cove Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck AvenueNovember 27 & 28; Noon to 5 PMOrganized by McCarlโ€™s niece, Gloucester artist Mary Rhinelander, the show will display McCarlโ€™s colorful artwork, from watercolor/gouache to the collages made from her vibrant hand-painted papers. Proceeds from sales of still lives and landscapes will be shared with the Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Childrenโ€™s Programming Fund at the Sawyer Free Library.ย Her bed positioned with a view of Good Harbor Beach, Mary Rhinelander McCarl died at home, on her own terms, late this past spring. From her birth in 1940, she spent some part of every year in Gloucester, eventually retiring to Old Nugent Farm. A polymath with a photographic memory, McCarl excelled at everything she focused her mind on or put her hand to. โ€œShe never stopped working, even during the days immediately preceding her death,โ€ says her niece. Her creativity required only paper, a brush and her imagination.โ€œAs a serious intellectual and scholar, McCarl managed to enliven even the driest of topics,โ€ says her niece. โ€œBut it was in her art practice that she really let go, where she was joyful and unconstrained. The breadth of content on her bookshelves attests to an ongoing and diverse curiosity, but also provides insight into her artistic heroes: Matisse, Hockney and a smattering of Fairfield Porter.โ€At Cover Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck Avenue, Gloucester. Cape Ann and Monhegan Island Vistas: Contrasted New England Art Colonies at Cape Ann Museumthroughย March 16, 2022The growth of two of New Englandโ€™s oldest and most revered summer art colonies is the subject of a special exhibition, on display at the Cape Ann Museum from Oct. 30, 2021-Feb. 13, 2022.The exhibition features works by artists who visited and were inspired by both Cape Ann and Monhegan. Among them are Theresa Bernstein, Walter Farndon, Eric Hudson, Margaret Patterson and Charles Movalli. Monhegan and Cape Ann trace the roots of their respective art colonies back to the mid-19th century and specifically to the years immediately following the Civil War. Summer enclaves which sprung up during that time gave artists the chance to socialize with one another and to work together, sharing ideas, trying out new techniques and critiquing each otherโ€™s work. During the early 20th century, both communities saw a surge of artists, professionals and amateurs, visit their shores. Today, Monhegan and Cape Ann continue to be vibrant regional art colonies of national significance. Learn more atย www.capeannmuseum.org. โ€œCape Ann & Monhegan Island Vistas: Contrasted New England Art Coloniesโ€ was organized by CAM in collaboration with theย Monhegan Museumย in Monhegan, Maine, and curated by art historian James F. Under the most challenging circumstances, Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute had a remarkable year. With all the uncertainty of the pandemic, GMGI delivered on our promises to provide transformative workforce training and conduct ground-breaking research, both of which are helping to catalyze our regional economy.ย

Gloucester Biotechnology Academy graduated the Class of 2021, maintaining the stellar job placement outcomes of this flagship program. We recently enrolled our sixth class, the first to train in the brand new biomanufacturing learning laboratory.ย A donation to GMGI allows us to continue to redirect lives of the career-compromised though hands-on learning, mentorship and professional development.ย For young adults struggling to connect with college and career, the Academy is an on-ramp to the thriving life sciences industry.ย

At our marine genomics institute, GMGIโ€™s team of scientists โ€˜crackedโ€™ the lobster genome, forged exciting new collaborations, and pushed the boundaries of discovery. From new insights into the health of the Annisquam River to groundbreaking research aboard the OceanXplorer, our scientists tackled some of the most vexing marine biology challenges.ย ย A donation to GMGI enables a groundbreaking genomics research agenda into fishery, ocean, and human health.

The word is spreading that there is a life science workforce pipeline in Gloucester and that important marine science is being conducted on the cityโ€™s waterfront. This is attracting the interest of other biotech firms who are exploring alternatives to the conventional Kendall Square and Seaport locations. In recognition of all we are accomplishing, GMGI has been named a 2021 finalist for a Massachusetts Economic Impact Award.ย

Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute is an ambitious organization. And yet we are just getting started.

If you are considering a first-time donation to GMGI, we hope that our consistent advances and demonstrated accountability give you the confidence to invest generously in our future.

For our current donors, thank you for continuing your generous support.

We are profoundly grateful for the steadfast support of our donors, and we remain committed to exceeding expectations.
