The Copley Society of Art is proud to host a national juried photography exhibition titled Then and Now: The Enduring Allure of Light in Photography, featuring images selected by famed photographer Joel Meyerowitz. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 15, from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Copley Society on 158 Newbury Street, Boston.*
Then and Now: The Enduring Allure of Light in Photography features an array of photographic techniques including silver print, ultra chrome pigment print, and platinum print. The use of light as a key element unites the works, which portray a variety of subjects and styles. The artists represented in the exhibition not only demonstrate a talented selection of the Copley Society’s members, but also extend far beyond the organization’s immediate artist community.
Distinguished photographer Joel Meyerowitz selected a diverse group of photographs, including both color and black and white images. Meyerowitz is renowned for his natural landscapes, cityscapes, and perhaps most notably for the moving images taken at Ground Zero. Having celebrated color photography since the 1960s, the photographer has been featured around the world, from the Art Institute of Chicago to the Centre Pompidou in France. In addition, his photographs have garnered international recognition through numerous prestigious awards.
The Copley Society of Art (Co|So), America’s oldest non-profit organization, is committed to the advancement, enjoyment, and promotion of its member artists and the visual arts. The organization, founded in 1879, comprises juried artists who are selected by a credentialed art committee. Co|So provides artists with a gallery for exhibiting and selling their work and a platform for engaging and educating the community.
The show will be on display from September 10th through October 6th. The Copley Society of Art is located at 158 Newbury Street in Boston. The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 11-6, Sunday 12-5, and Monday by appointment.
* All members will be admitted free of charge, and non-members will be asked to pay a fee of ten dollars to support the gallery’s outreach program.
Please visit our website, www.copleysociety.org , to view images from the full exhibition.
Good Morning Joey,
You are my connection to Cape Ann when I am on and off the “Island”!
I was at the Cape Ann Community Cinema last night and discovered a showing of Rebirth is scheduled 9/11/11.
The film was screened at Sundance 2011, the director follows 5 people effected by 9/11
over 9 +years, a story of love, loss, reconciliation, and promise.. It also is technically accurate in that the filmmaker has filmed the entire site post 9/11 to present in time-lasped fashion.
My husband and I had contributed to the credits in memory of someone close we lost at
Windows of the World in Tower 1.
It would be great if you could post this screening for the Cape Ann Community Cinema..
I meet Robert Newton , the artistic director of CACA and it seems he could use some help

Dear Joey,
You might want to remind your viewers of the Noise 30th Anniversary Party Finale TONIGHT at The Annie — and what a finale it will be featuring Allen Estes, Chelsea Berry, Sal Baglio, Julie Dougherty and T Max.
Whose T Max, you ask? Well, he’s the publisher/editor of The Noise (New England’s longest running music magazine) and a singer/songwriter.
Plus he just moved to Gloucester, thereby proving my assertion that Gloucester is the hub of independent music north of Boston.
T Max has only been here a couple of months and he’s already producing excellent shows. Look for more of them in the coming months.
Hope to see you tonight.

Here are the results of the tournament.
Surf:
#1 Aaron Quinlan, Amesbury – 35 lbs, 44" (weighed in at Surfland)
#2 John Noonan, Amesbury – 16.88 lbs , 39" (weighed in at Surfland)
#3 John Lynch, Peabody – 13.12 lbs, 33" (weighed in at Bridge St. Sports)
Boat:
#1 Joal Leanos, Gloucester – 36.6 lbs, 48" (weighed in at Winchester Fishing)
#2 Al Williams, Gloucester – 32.45 lbs, 45" (weighed in at Winchester Fishing)
#3 Paul Whitten, Salem – 30.5 lbs, 46" (weighed in at Bridge St. Sports)
Youth Ryan Mitchell, Ipswich – 19.38 lbs, 36" (weighed in at Surfland)
I’ve attached a picture of Joal Leanos with his fish. This is Joal’s second win in the boat division. He won the boat division in 2010 and was the winner of the junior division in 2008.
Al Williams has previously won (2005) and come in third (2010) in the boat division. This is Ryan’s second win in the youth division. This is also his last year in the youth division. At the prize ceremony I told him that Joal Leanos’ performance as a former youth division winner has set the bar high for Ryan next year. About 150 people entered the tournament and almost twenty fish were weighed in. For the first time, one of the prize winners has generously chosen to return his winnings to the beneficiary food pantries. John Noonan, the second place winner in the surf division, is a five time tournament participant and first time winner. We anticipate increasing our donation to our beneficiaries over our 2010 donation (almost $6,000). However, we’re still awaiting some donations before we can make a final accounting.
I’ am Lady a 7-month-old girl pup who is a boxer mix. I am here at the Cape Ann Animal with my sister. We are playful, active and happy girls.

The event is free to attend! $10 participation fee for dog activities; the first 100 participants receive a free Dog Day t-shirt! All proceeds benefit Cape Ann Animal Aid. For more information, please visit

Hope to see you there with my new family!
Greetings from the Spirit of Bermuda Management and Crew!
Bermuda Sloop Foundation would like to thank all of our new and old friends and family in Gloucester for welcoming us with open arms. Prior to sailing to Gloucester, our crew have been hard at work for three weeks conducting our annual maintenance in Belfast and Rockport. We have settled in Gloucester to wait out Hurricane Katia for a few days, which has also given our crew some much needed and well deserved R&R. We would like to thank Brown’s Yacht Yard for being so awesome and accommodating. We welcome anyone who would like to come by for a tour. Once back in Bermuda, we will be back to work conducting our youth program targeting our island’s 13 year olds. We welcome anyone who comes to Bermuda to come find us in Dockyard.
Thanks again for all of your hospitality.
