DOWNTOWN GLOUCESTER HOLIDAY PARADE Sunday Nov 27th

The annual Gloucester Holiday Parade, a Gloucester tradition for many years, will take place on Sunday, November 27th at 3:00 PM. Volunteers will line up parade participants at the State Fish Pier on Parker Street at 2:00 PM and will guide them through downtown Gloucester and on to Kent Circle for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The parade is also the official welcoming of Santa Claus to Gloucester for the holiday season. At Kent Circle, children will have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap – a great photo opportunity for parents. And – as in the past – while folks are at Kent Circle, they are invited to sign holiday cards that will be sent to our troops overseas.

This year, the Downtown Gloucester Holiday Parade Committee is pleased to announce that Amvets Post 32 will be participating in this year’s Parade in partnership with the United States Marine Corp’s annual "Toys 4 Tots" drive. Look for the big pink elephant and Santa and his elves. Bring an unwrapped toy to the Parade or look for the drop off points around Cape Ann listed on Facebook. There will also be a drop off spot at Kent Circle during the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

This year’s Kent Circle Tree Lighting ceremony will feature festive music by the North Shore Bell Ringers as well as popcorn and hot chocolate provided by Lobsta Land and Ringo Tarr. This great community event is enjoyed by all ages. Along with the Parade, the tree celebrates Gloucester’s close ties to Shelburne, Nova Scotia that each year provides a tree to be lit.

Happy Birthday To One Of My Greatest Presents Of 2011- Our Friend EJ

image

I can’t begin to tell you how much EJ has brought to our lives.  Her positive energy, her photo and video contributions, her expert handling of the GMG Gallery this past summer at Rocky Neck, the hosting of the Mug-Ups but mostly her friendship.

EJ brings so much to us every day and is such a kindred spirit in that she has the best of all worlds, the compassion of an artist and the  organizational sense and responsibility of a business person.

EJ, thank you for coming into my life as such a great friend to not just me but the entire GMG community.  Your friendship has been one of my greatest gifts this past year.

We love you.

Steven Wright Quote of the Week From Greg Bover

“Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish.”
Steven Wright 1955-

Although born in New York, comedian, actor and writer Steven Wright is a rabid Sox fan. Known for his lethargic voice and deadpan delivery of ironic, philosophical and sometimes nonsensical jokes and one-liners, Wright grew up in Burlington, (as did Amy Poehler). He attended Emerson College, (with Dennis Leary) and began his stand up career around Harvard Square.

Cape Ann Film Festival’s 2nd Great Week Of Premieres & Guest!

image

The 2nd Annual Cape Ann Film Festival has a busy second weekend planned, with special guests and exclusive presentations at The Cape Ann Community Cinema at 21 Main Street in Gloucester.
On Sunday, November 20th at 2:30pm, Paul Van Ness of CinemaSalem in Salem personally presents and discusses his 35-minute docudrama "The True 1692," about the Witch Ordeal in which 19 people were put to death for supposedly consorting with the Devil. Van Ness wrote, produced and directed the film in cooperation with History Alive!
On Saturday, November 20th at 2:30pm, Sandra Schulberg, producer of the restoration of her father Stuart Schulberg’s documentary "Nuremberg," will personally present and discuss this vitally important film. The film is an account of the 1946 trial during which surviving Nazi officers were prosecuted for war crimes. The film’s official website is www.NurembergFilm.org.
Two very different animated films also debut this weekend. First, the grown-up love story "Chico & Rita," a jazz-flavored tale set to the music of Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker, will premiere at 7:30pm on Friday, November 18th. On Saturday, November 19th at 7:30pm, the family-friendly treat "Mia And The Migoo" screens, a story about a little girl who becomes friends with a 30-foot forest monster who is none too happy that a greedy developer is destroying his forest.
Other family-friendly films playing at the Festival this weekend include "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey" (Sunday the 20th at 5:00pm) and the Massachusetts premiere of "The Hammer" (Sunday the 20th at 7:30pm), the Rockyesque story of deaf wrestler Matt Hamill, who went on to fight in the UFC. The film is presented in the open caption format, not only to service deaf audiences, but through intentionally dropped dialogue and some done entirely in sign language, to give to hearing audiences some sense of what it’s like to not be able to hear. The film is rated PG-13.
The rest of the weekend’s schedule is as follows: "The Way" (Fri. Nov. 18 @ 12:00pm & 9:30pm, Sat. Nov. 19 @ 9:30pm), the Free Classic "D.O.A." (Fri. Nov. 18 @ 2:30pm), the French comedy "The Women On The 6th Floor" (Fri. Nov. 18 @ 5:00pm & Sat. Nov. 19 @ 12:00pm) and "My Afternoons With Margueritte" (Sat. Nov. 19 @ 2:30pm).
The 2nd Annual Cape Ann Film Festival runs every day through Sunday, November 27. The full line-up can be found at www.CapeAnnFilmFest.com.

Sal Grasso Tournament This Weekend

Kristen Michel writes-

Dear CAYH Families –
I wanted to send along a link to a video from several years ago that explains the history of our friendship with Westmount and the legacy of Sal Grasso.
Please share this with your player so that they can understand the tradition of the tournament and the importance of continuing our cultural exchange.  Who knows …. you might even recognize some of the players!!!!  I think that these Squirts are now Bantams!!!  TIme does fly.
Please be sure to come to our luncheon at City Hall on Saturday afternoon to get to know some of the families and players from Montreal.  It is truly a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and introduce the Westmount families to the City of Gloucester.

Best wishes for a fun weekend of hockey!!
We all want bragging rights to the trophy.  It has been kept safely in Canada for far too long!!!
