Gloucester Fisherman Story From Good Morning America 1982

Rosalie Parisi forwards-

Joey,

This was taken at your fathers Wharf in1982, it is a story about my family and the fishing industry.

In the end of the video my Uncle Charlie who passed last week is pictured weighing out the boat at our dock.

Uncle Charlie was a rock of a man, the strong type of family man who led the family by example.

Mae West Quote of The Week from Greg Bover

December 2, 2011
“I’m all for restraint, as long as it doesn’t go too far.”
Mary Jane (Mae) West (1893- 1980)

image

From her beginnings in vaudeville, West moved on to Broadway, writing, directing and starring in the 1920’s hit play Sex for which she was arrested and jailed on morals charges, launching a life-long battle with censorship. Her film career began in the thirties with memorable roles in Night after Night, I’m No Angel, and Diamond Lil. West often wrote or rewrote her own dialogue featuring her penchant for double entendre while up-staging a long string of leading men, including Cary Grant, Randolph Scott, and W.C. Fields. She made no films from the Second World War until 1970 when she appeared in Gore Vidal’s camp hit Myra Breckenridge. Inflatable life jackets are still referred to by her name for their resemblance to her statuesque form.

Blue Shutters — Awesome Photos

Joey

We’ve been asking guests of the Blue Shutters to share their photos, and boy are they coming through! The shots we’ve received in recent months have been some of the best we’ve ever seen, including a new batch just in…from early morning Good Harbor Beach regular Marie Pelletier of Salem , MA ; from Bob Brewer of the UK ; and from Jay Carlson of Florida (a Gloucester native). Here are a few samples — there are many more on the Blue Shutters blog and our Facebook page.

My favorite photo of the trip to Peru! From Jackie Ganim DeFalco

Hi Joey,

I’m not sure if you got to use this one, but I just loved the way this Macauw deep in the Sacred Valley wanted to chew up the GMG sticker!  He personally asked me to get noticed on your Blog in Gloucester, so I had to send this in again.  He’s just so colorful, I thought he’d fit in right next to Homie.  I am also sending (in another email) the last GMG shot from Machhu Picchu since after that, I left my sticker with Pedro our guide!

Best, Jackie

Peter Serkin
Biography (excerpt from CM Artists New York)
http://www.cmartists.com/artists/peter-serkin.htm

Recognized as an artist of passion and integrity, the distinguished American pianist Peter Serkin is one of the most thoughtful and individualistic musicians appearing before the public today.

Peter Serkin’s rich musical heritage extends back several generations: his grandfather was violinist and composer Adolf Busch and his father pianist Rudolf Serkin.

An avid proponent of the music of many of the 20th and 21st century’s most important composers, Mr. Serkin has been instrumental in bringing the music of Schoenberg, Webern, Berg, Stravinsky, Wolpe, Messiaen, Takemitsu, Henze, Berio, Wuorinen, Goehr, Knussen and Lieberson, among others, to audiences around the world.

He has performed many important world premieres, in particular, works by Toru Takemitsu, Peter Lieberson, Oliver Knussen and Alexander Goehr, all of which were written for him. Most recently, Mr. Serkin played the world premieres of Charles Wuorinen’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Boston Symphony/James Levine in Boston, at Carnegie Hall and at Tanglewood as well as a fifth piano concerto by Mr. Wuorinen with the Met Opera Orchestra/Levine, also at Carnegie Hall; a solo work by Elliot Carter commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival; and Mr. Wuorinen’s new piano quintet (commissioned by the Rockport, MA Music Festival) with the Brentano String Quartet.

Last Thursday, about 60 people gathered at the Patio Restaurant in Magnolia to celebrate the 50th birthday party of Gloucester good guy, Ronnie Rodgers. Even Elvis dusted himself off and showed up for this one!  Here is Ronnie walking in to his surprise in the Patio’s function room…
