How Do You Move A Thousand Pound Scallop Dredge? Very Carefully

Pete Mondello sold his old scallop dredge which he long ago sold his permits for to some guys from New Bedford.  This meant we needed to get it out of the yard and up over the rail of a pick up truck into it’s bed safely without it coming crashing down and  smashing the sides of the truck to bits.

We did it without incident.  Video at the bottom.

The Senior Running Back was the force behind a powerful Fisherman rushing attack in 2010. Shairs rushed for 31 TD’s for the Fishermen in 2010, including two at Gillette Stadium in Gloucester’s Division 1A Super Bowl win over Bridgewater-Raynham.

Gallery artists Fred Bodin, Jean Byrd, and Kathleen Miller invite you to our annual Holiday Open House. We’re brimming with new and historic photographs, fine oil paintings, blown glass, ceramics, fish prints, t shirts, calendars, and cards of all kinds. Seasonal refreshments will be served, along with a table of appetizers, including my fresh creamed herring. Come one, come all ~ Eat, Drink, and be Merry!

We are also celebrating Downtown Gloucester’s Ladies’ Night tomorrow, December 1st, from 5 pm till 10 pm. Start early and stay late.

Our friends at the POP Gallery, across the street, will be serving champagne and chocolate on Ladies’ Night; and tasty treats at their own Open House on December 3rd.

Rockport Chamber Half Price Sale

All Rockporters are invited to and encouraged to attend the Rockport Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Party and Half Price Sale at the Fish Shack Restaurant on Tuesday, December 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This annual event is free and all are welcome.  This is a delightful occasion to gather with friends and colleagues, where we take the opportunity to thank the Rockport community, Chamber members, and our volunteers for their support of the Chamber and our community over the past year.  The half-price sale is also a fun way to shop for great gifts while helping to raise funds in support Christmas in Rockport. It is anticipated that more than fifty items worth over $3000 in total, all of which are being donated by Rockport’s business community, will be available for purchase at half of their retail value.  Some additional items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder that evening.  Also, Rockport artisan Leslie Wind once again will be at the party, this year crafting ornaments and cocoa stirrers and offering them for sale at $5 and $10 apiece. All proceeds from the half-price sale, including 100% of the sales of Leslie Wind’s creations, will be used to help support programming and defray expenses for this year’s Christmas in Rockport events.   The Rockport Holiday Calendar and Guide is now available online at ChristmasinRockport.com  and throughout the Rockport community, filled with listings of the season’s events in Rockport throughout December.

SUPER ART AND SUPER FUN CONTINUES AT THE ANNIE!
Artists and friends had a great time at the Emerging Cape Ann Artist Show Thursday night at the Annie! Fun, beautiful and though-provoking art hangs in four rooms. The show continues Saturday 3 – 7 pm. Come by and check the art, get to know new artists and support Cape Ann arts. Plus 25% of art sales go to support the Annie our treasured Cape Anne Theatre!
Buy some art for Christmas! You’ll find cards to sculpture, video art, photography, gorgeous paintings of Cape Ann – too much to list here, so check it out yourself! Come on up around the corner of Main to the Washington Street entrance of the Cape Ann Theater.
Hours are: Saturday 12/3 from 3 to 7 pm, and again during the Men’s Shopping Stroll, December 8 from 5 to 9 pm. The Annie is at One Washington Street.

6 People Who Gained Amazing Skills from Brain Injuries

At the age of 35, New Jersey man Jon Sarkin started to hear ringing in his ear. This was the type of ringing that, it turns out, could only be explained by overgrown blood vessels that require freaking brain surgery to fix.

Sarkin got his noggin cut open to fix the blood vessel, but later suffered a stroke and actually had to have part of his brain removed. All in all, it was almost the worst possible outcome for the surgery aside from death.

Terry Weber writes-

Just wanted to let you know that the Finish Line Writers Group has been meeting for almost two months at the Gloucester Writers Center. We are all working on our own novels, memoirs or screenplays, yet still finding time to support each other’s projects. At each meeting we have readings and critique time, as well as an educational segment. I have to say we are becoming quite close, and each of us contributes ideas to the group to make it effective and worthwhile. May we all make it to the Finish Line! 

Note GMG friend Lois McNulty ‘consulting’ with me. She must be writing a comedy, as I can’t seem to take what she’s saying seriously! 😉

Hi Joey,
It is amazing how many "good deeds a day"  Good Morning Gloucester does for Gloucester, Massachusetts.
For residents and anyone touring our beautiful city, faithful upkeeping to your site keeps us all informed of daily news issues here in our hometown, for the merchants and businesses who get to talk about the special varieties of local goods and services (especially for holiday shoppers) gives us a wide variety of choices to select from,  sometimes right from our computers using on-line shopping. 

Your there to cover the Santa Parade, the tree lighting, special events all over Cape Ann, the Middle St. Walk and on it goes, one adventure after another.
The video clips actually help me to get to know people.  I plan to visit to buy local gifts, most often I can associate a name with a face, or a face to the artist or the music of the musician.  You and I haven’t met yet, but I hold you very high in my esteem and I just want to "thank you" for your enthusiam and for all your elves taken under your wing, I mean "blog" and your dedication to and pride in your community.  I just love this city.
