Statement From Police Chief Leonard Campanello
Hi Joe,
Thanks for your call this a.m.
We received a call about 6:20am from a credible source indicating that a rumor was circulating that there was a statement made by a student of bringing a handgun to the High School today. There was also a rumor that threats of bringing a gun to school today were written on a wall in the bathroom of the High School. The Police Department immediately responded, checked the school, began investigating and contacted school officials and the Mayor.
As it stands now, we will have a police presence for the time being at the High School, both to continue to track down the source of these rumors and to dispel any fear that students, parents, and teachers may have. The school is open, quiet, classes are in session as normal and school admin is on scene as well. I am told by the super that if students are apprehensive, there are guidance counselors on scene to speak with them.

Every holiday season, with the support of the community HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) holds a holiday store for children who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence. Donations of toys are brought to HAWC’s Gloucester office and staff and volunteers display the toys on shelves for clients to select for their children. It is the generosity of local community groups such as the Strokers Hot Rod Club of Gloucester that make the store possible and bring joy to many children this holiday season. Thank you to Frank D’Agostino, Bob Kern, Nancy Sykes and LeBaron Hazen who delivered the toys.

Gallery Open House to coincide with Rockport Christmas Pageant
“Deep Thought,” by Ed Sullivan
The gallery at Cape Ann Fine Art and Framing, 19 Broadway in Rockport, will hold an open house on Saturday, December 22d, from noon to 8pm.
On display will be over sixty paintings, drawings, and monotypes by preeminent contemporary Cape Ann Artists in a wide range of styles and prices.
Featured at the open house will be over twenty small, framed works of art having discounted prices for holiday shoppers, by Zygmund Jankowski, Dennis Flavin, and Ed Sullivan. Jankowski has a national reputation, and Flavin’s paintings will be exhibited in the Cape Ann Museum in April. Also on display will be works Eileen Mueller, Peter Russell, and Kathryn Tuck.
The gallery at Cape Ann Fine Art and Framing opened its doors in October and aims to serve everyone interested in the contemporary art on Cape Ann, from serious collectors to visitors just discovering its storied and vibrant tradition.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the Rockport Pageant Committee, in partnership with the Rockport Art Association, the Rockport Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, and the Christmas in Rockport Committee, is presenting Rockport’s annual Christmas Nativity Pageant on Saturday, December 22, 2012, beginning at 5 pm. (Rain date: Sunday, December 23 at 5 pm)
Each year hundreds of spectators gather to watch the live re-enactment of the story of Mary and Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus. The pageant begins with a torch lit procession which starts at Dock Square and proceeds up Main Street, with a brief stop at the Rockport Art Association, representing the Bethlehem inn, and then on to the stable at the Congregational Church. Along the way the story of Jesus’ birth is brought to life through a live narration and Christmas hymns sung by a full choir.
The pageant was originated by Dr. William F. Strangman and Mrs. Aldro Hibbard in
1947, as a gift from the Rockport Art Association to the village. It remains a solid holiday
season fixture to this day.
The Rockport Pageant Committee wishes to thank this year’s lead sponsors Granite Savings Bank, Rockport National Bank, and Rockport Rotary Club for their generous financial support; Rockport Art Association for providing the space for cast costuming and costume and crèche storage; Rockport Music for the use of the Shalin Liu Performance Center to broadcast the narration by Mike Costello, and for hosting a free community sing-along and presentation of vintage Christmas TV specials following the Pageant; Rockport National Bank for hosting the post-pageant open house reception; carpenters George and Jeff Hobbs, Bill and Billy Elwell and Jake Rowe for building the crèche; Bruce Rowell of Bayside Electric for lighting; Brad Bigelow for crowd management; Pat Marshall and Marshall’s Farm for providing Jasper the donkey; Mark Nelson and his choir; Rockport Congregational Church for the use of the church lawn for the crèche and the church to house and broadcast the choir, and for providing a community ham and bean supper following the Pageant; as well as the efforts of scores of dedicated individuals both in the cast and providing support behind the scenes. Tomorrow (Friday) at 9:30am the city of Gloucester will join city halls and churches around the nation in ringing our bells 26 times in memory of the children and staff who died in the tragedy in Newtown. Everyone is invited to join us outside at City Hall for this remembrance.

Wait, WTF did she just say? and in the greater scheme of things does it really matter?
Truth be told Snoop Maddie Mad was more excited about driving downtown and picking out presents for her sister at Toodeloos than she has been about picking out stuff for herself. All ride down to Gloucester she was fretting and nervous because she wanted to be sure that she got something that her sister would like. Then when we got home it was straight up to her room so she could wrap the presents herself.
