A very special meeting of the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club April 12

200

The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club is delighted to have Dr. Mario Motta as our speaker for the April 12 GAAC meeting. Mario will address the serious threats to our dark skies (and our health!) here on Cape Ann and elsewhere.

Dr. Motta will discuss the human health issues caused by light pollution, and will outline important reasons for good lighting practices, which include energy savings, better seeing at night, and a variety of important environmental problems. This will be a fun and informative meeting on an issue that is critical to us all.

Mario has worked on light pollution issues since 1990, was instrumental in getting a light pollution policy adopted by Gloucester, and is working for similar legislation statewide. He is a founding member of NELPAG (new England Light Pollution advisory group), is on the IDA board, and has gotten both the Massachusetts Medical Society and the AMA to adopt light pollution measures for health reasons. He is on the AMA Council of Science and Public Health, and led a 2 year effort on a compilation of light pollution’s health issues that was adopted by the AMA as policy in 2012.

GAAC meets on the second Friday of every month at the Lanesville Community Center at 8:00pm. There is no cost. We’re on the web at http://gaac.us and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/gaacpage

Do you see Jesus’ face or are you going to hell?
Cuz the way I see it, it’s one or the other.

PSA To All You Kids Out There- You Think The First Time This Broad Popped A Pill She Ever Imagined That She’d End Up A Mess like This?

Andrea Cortois posted this to twitter-

This girl could have been attractive.  She could have been a lot of things.  But look at her.

A mess.

Think any addict starts out taking drugs thinking they were ever going to end up blowing ugly dudes so they can afford their next fix?  Think anyone ingests balloons full of drugs only to shit them out to smuggle them or hide them because they’re normal?

Here’s a little suggestion for you-

Don’t think you’re stronger than the drug.   It doesn’t matter how strong willed you think you might be.  Imagine if the chance of you got addicted was only 10% even though it’s way higher.  Would you take a 10% chance that you’d ever end up looking like this chick?

Would you take a 10% chance that you’d end up getting screwed by ugly dudes for money to buy drugs because you were that desperate?

Do yourself a favor and find other ways to distract yourself.  Throw yourself into creating art.  Throw yourself into sports or working out.  Throw yourself into taking higher education classes.

Throw yourself into anything but taking drugs.  Not once.  Not ever.

Don’t be the chick with horrible acne screwing ugly dudes for money to buy dope.

Gail Levin, author of Hopper’s Places Has Some Nice Things To Say About Our Catherine Ryan’s Work

What exciting work all the sleuths in Gloucester are doing tracking Edward Hopper’s footprints! I sure wish that I had had the power of the internet when I was first doing my research on Hopper in the 1970s and early 1980s, but there was no internet presence then. Most folks I encountered in Gloucester had never even heard of Hopper. Congratulations to all the people finding Hopper’s presence and to those who conceived of the website.

With best wishes,Gail Levin, author Hopper’s Places, Edward Hopper: A Catalogue Raisonne, Edward Hopper: An Intimate Biography, and other books

Hi Joey!

A few of us just graduated from the “Become an Expert” wine series at Savour Wine and Cheese on Prospect Street and had such a great time I wanted to share…  The classes were so full of information as to taste, production, food pairing, along with many laughs – they just flew by, we learned more than we’ll ever remember and made friends as well!  Kathleen was a wonderful instructor and her shop is just beautiful!!

Muffy White Offers To Take Your Spent Whiskey Bottles

Dear Joey,

Today my family and I walked 1/3 of a mile from our home on Haskell St. down Mooreland St. and picked up 4 lawn bags of garbage. Gross right?
The amazing thing is what we found among the general waste we found 161 small bottles of Seagrams 7.
One Hundred and Sixty One!!
Not an accidental "oops my recycling blew away"…

I am truly amazed at the litter that is everywhere in Gloucester RIGHT NOW!
This is not a complaint but a plea —
People please step outside and if something doesn’t belong on the ground, pick it up.
When you have trash please do not litter!
This our home, your home, your children’s home…

Every day should be Earth Day,
Muffy White

p.s. IF you are on Mooreland St or Haskell St and do not know how to dispose of your small/large liquor bottles, please drop them by our house we will be happy to help!!
