Theatre in the Pines – "Dividing the Estate"
"Dividing the Estate" by Horton Foote and directed by Nan Webber, will be held on May 9, 10, 11 at 7:30 and May 12 at 3 p.m. at Spiran Hall located at the corner of School Street and Broadway, Rockport
In, "Dividing the Estate," old resentments and sibling rivalries surface as the members of this hilariously dysfunctional family go head to head to see who might claim the biggest piece of the pie. Rich humor clearly reflects the spirit of the playwright. Cast members include Scott Hazzard, Kierstin Hazzard, Sarah Clark, Sue Barratt Souza, Rick Doucette, Eileen Fitzgerald, and Mark and Patti Natti, Ruth Exama, Alexa Exama, Patricia Richards and Carl Pulkkinen. Randy Dupps is Stage Manager, Frank Walcott is the technical director and set design and production manager is Martin Ray.
Tickets are now on sale at The Bookstore in Gloucester and Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport.
Flatrocks Gallery welcomes spring with Fabrications, five gifted artists dedicated to ‘transforming the ordinary.’ Though visually distinct, each body of work employs common materials in ways that play fragility against strength and continuity against temporality. Dawn Southworth, combines a vast range of materials and processes. to construct unified, emotionally charged imagery. Margaret Rack, a metal sculptor offers playful wire “drawings”, delicate yet substantial constructions. Deploying commonplace materials with vision and wit, Nina Fletcher recycles histories into new stories. Sculptor and installation artist Caroline Bagenal animates space with delicate linear structures that move us from impermanence into history. Elizabeth Billings’ weavings use organic materials gathered locally to evoke intuitive experiences we all share.
Join us for an reception to meet the artists, April 27th. 6-9pm.
Fabrications runs through May 26th.
Open Thurs.- Sun. 12-5pm.(and by appt.)

DOCUMERICA Project Photo Set Rockport In The 70s
Hi:
Love your blog. I follow it as a Cape Ann native currently living in Dorchester.
Not sure if you’d be interested, but there’s an incredible set of photos from the 70s taken for the DOCUMERICA Project and currently housed in the U.S. Archives. They are primarily of Rockport, but they are really cool.
Check them out here:

The Bookstore of Gloucester : a reading and signing with local author
Hi joey,
It’s Arwen from The Bookstore. I was wondering if you could help us out. We have a few big readings coming up and would love to get the word out there.
Our first one is on Friday, May 10th with local author, Domenica Ruta. Domenica
is from Danvers and her memoir, “With or Without You” has been getting tons of rave reviews and publicity. I will attach a blurb from her website so you can get an idea of what it is about:(please forgive my technically challenged format, my cousin Jenn should be doing this :))
“Domenica Ruta grew up in a working-class, unforgiving Italian town north of Boston where in the seventeenth century women were hanged as witches. Her mother, Kathi, a notorious figure in this hardscrabble place, was a drug addict and sometime dealer whose life swung between welfare and riches, whose highbrow taste was at odds with her base appetites. And yet she managed, despite the chaos she created, to instill in her daughter the idea that art—via a classic film or a classical education—could transcend this life of undying grudges, self-inflicted misfortune, and the crooked moral code that Kathi and her cohorts lived by. With or Without You is the story of Domenica’s unconventional coming of age—a darkly hilarious chronicle of a misfit ’90s childhood and the necessary and painful act of breaking away, and of overcoming her own addictions and demons in the process.”
“In a brilliant stylistic feat, Domenica Ruta has written a powerful, inspiring, compulsively readable, and finally redemptive story about loving and leaving.”
The reading will be at 7 pm on Friday, May 10th.
Our address is 61 Main St. and our phone # is 1-978-281-1548.
We can also have books signed for people if they can not make reading….
Thank you so much Joey!
